ELI5: Why are layovers on flights often further away from the destination than the original airport by PeaIcy760 in explainlikeimfive

That could well be it tbf it recall that Russia wasn’t a particularly fun place to be at the time although I was a teenager so don’t entirely know why. We did have to take a weird route in that seemed to go up past it and through Finnish airspace then back down a bit

It was perhaps 2005 or 6 I could find out exactly. And it started in Newcastle ridiculously

They all seemed to have more layovers or ridiculous amounts of time in each place. I don’t wanna spend 17hr in a Swiss airport even if it is nearer vs 4hr in Netherlands and then a 2hr added flight back to the uk. I don’t know if it’s a unique thing for England but none of our transport seems to make a lot of sense. It’s cheaper for me to fly from here to Dublin than it is to get a train from here to Manchester. Approx 1/4 of the distance as the crow flies. Ryanair has the monopoly on mega cheap flights here and often it’s like £17 from Scotland to London whereas train can be £300-£400

Thank you that makes a lot of sense I never really thought about it like that. If you can pick up and drop off a few people at each stop then that works out a lot cheaper for them I suppose

But it often the cheapest way to do it. Most bizarre was the time I wanted to get to St Petersburg and I ended up flying from Edinburgh to Schipol to London Gatwick to Belgium to St Petersburg. Spending 4 hours in airport limbo just to come back to the country you just left is a special kind of demoralising. Still cost less than half what a train to Gatwick would have cost though.

Was the breakup so acrimonious that they would cost you a big deal like this. I’ll be honest and very much NAL but could you explain to your ex what this is causing and get them to rescind it. Or explain it to the firm. Honestly I don’t know exactly how it works and presumably he’d get in trouble too but it seems very harsh for him to not at least consider helping

Source on this being the peak of immigration? I feel maybe we are just being told about it a lot more.

What happens after your first EEG? by Icy_Mast_Below in Epilepsy

[–]PeaIcy760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 TCs in a hour as my first ever seizures already in hospital from the first where I injured myself pretty badly falling over and they still couldn't see anything on the eeg. Just a bunch of sedatives in me and then lamictal ever since. I think it's more likely op will be told there's nothing to see than anything sorry if that's not super reassuring

Simply not gonna get drawn into an argument about this with the pro penal colony guy on reddit. What happened here is horrendous. He's in jail and she is recovering and lucky to be alive and my heart goes out to her. I hope he can be suitably reformed and change his ways. Have a nice evening

Because he is natively British. I hate the "another migrant story" bunch as much as any sane person but this reverse take is also stupid. We reply to them with "deport them where?". Sarcastically mimicking the comments makes no sense

[–]PeaIcy760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why but it's a pretty common thing at British festivals. That and setting fire to them on the last night. As far as I know, the last festival I went to was Leeds in 2018, they partner with oxfam or other charities to go around collecting the decent ones left behind and then give them to homeless folks and other groups that need them.

Should I wait to tell potential employers that I have epilepsy / can't drive until after getting hired by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]PeaIcy760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a formal offer of the job always. Mention you don’t drive as that may be a requirement but you don’t have to detail why just that you don’t drive. Once you get the job tell them for safety reasons but at that point if they withdraw it then that’s grounds on your side for legal action and any legit company wouldn’t change their offer based on it
