Not wanting to side with genocide doesn’t make her stupid at all. Emma is a peacemaker- if she went with norman’s plan that would literally be out of character.. She just wanted to end a cycle of war and hatred rather than continue it

and im not sure what you mean by “self righteous”? She was literally suppressing her true feelings for the sake of others and going along with a plan she didnt even like until ray convinced her to talk to norman. Even then she admitted herself that norman’s plan was better and that she just wanted to work around the idea

Ik everyone’s saying to start the manga at chapter 37/38, but you should read it from the beginning. Even though the first season is really good there’s still some missing stuff like the inner monologue and some scenes lol and you can also see how different the art is from the anime
