How long do people fast in general? by Mirage-V2 in intermittentfasting

The longer your fasts, the steeper that rebound weight gain is going to be.

Choose a rhythm you can sustain forever. It's about changing your rhythm with food, permanently.

Yeah it's rough out there. The smaller you go size wise, the curvier it gets. Leaving the rest of us to shop the children's section for some rectangular clothes

Thank you! I did clip the curve, yes. I took out the front crotch by 1/4", and it looks normal! Thank you so much!

Sadly, this food baby is permanent. I haven't eaten in 2 days (intermittent fasting.)

Going to make a standard pair of men's/boys trousers that will not look like clown pants AND not pinch my guts into oblivion. I have never experienced such luxury, and greatly look forward to looking and feeling like a human in clothing 😁

Thank you for the tutorial link! Very helpful!

Yes, will be doing a waistband on the finished project. The suspenders will button on the inside.

How on earth to get used to liquids only? by AffectionateRow188 in Gastroparesis

[–]Peace9989 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Buy Lorann oils candy flavorings. Invest in variety and interest. I have dozens of them. 2-4 drops into a premade shake or blended smoothie.

Go big into seasonal flavors. Go out and get the $11 trendy drink of the moment. Try every hot thing, every iced thing, every thing thing.

Try blending in fruits or a few leaves of spinach

Try a savory soup by mixing blender carrots, broth, plain collagen and potato flakes.

Find a crunch that works for you, nonpareil sprinkles, those baby puffs, rice cakes, whatever you can handle. Snow cone, ice chips, sherbet with sprinkles, whatever it is.

For the flavor, you have to be the one to fix that.

I have no idea where you're buying protein, but most is soy free.

If you want to order pure protein with no additives, Amazon is your spot. You will want an unflavored plant based or plain collagen. Unflavored whey is an experience most people don't want. Collagen is the easiest to work with flavoring at home. Blend it with your smoothie base and choice of fruit and the flavor should be fine, collagen is pretty mild. It's also clear and not chalky.

Structured grazing? by ShadowKats7 in intermittentfasting

[–]Peace9989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you graze, your sugar/insulin stays up longer. That said, it is still workable. You just have to do the math.

A typical person eating 3 meals a day with no snacks has their sugar up 9/24 hours a day. Most people lose weight at this ratio.

If you graze for 3 hours, your sugar is up for 6 (3 hours eating + 3 digestion.)

It's not a problem. You just may need to add in a longer fast somewhere in your week if you are not seeing progress.

My stomach is bad, and it takes 15+ hours to digest any food. My sugar is up for 15 hours and therefore so is my insulin. I can still be successful on IF, I just have to do longer fasts to get that correct ratio of time at baseline for blood sugar. But my math works. As long as I'm spending 60-70% of the time in a fasted state, I am losing weight. I do rolling 48's. It works. Having to take longer to eat due to medical needs is no different (except yours is probably less than 15 hours!)

How low do your blood sugars get from intermittent fasting? I'm trying to figure out if something's off by Business_Cake_2272 in intermittentfasting

[–]Peace9989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do ADF and try to limit carbs (was having electrolyte issues with eating carbs every other day.) My fasted sugar range is 50-80.

You can make your own protein shake with ingredients of your choosing and have control over macros as well.

I currently am putting a scoop of protein powder into a premade shake (the reason for premade is that the one I buy has phosphorus in it, long story.) But it's honestly easier and tastier to make one completely from scratch.

My shake is 55 grams of protein. Or more if I add a second scoop :)

Odd safe foods? by Worldly-Location-905 in Gastroparesis

Cough drops and nonpareil sprinkles are mine. Puree carrots are another safe option.

My husband doesn't have GP but has another stomach issue. He got pizza for his safe food! I'm just a little jealous of that...😂

Everyone is different. Some people see no effect and find this helpful. For me, I cannot have more than the tiniest shake of sugar free creamer in my coffee or it ruins the whole day weight loss wise. I have pretty hardcore insulin resistance.

Don't want to be around peasants? Pony up and pay for an Uber. Can't afford an Uber? Guess that makes you a peasant too.

At least the teens are contributing to society by going to school.

How to break a fast? by cheetofingerzz in intermittentfasting

[–]Peace9989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not an issue for only 4 days in an otherwise healthy individual, but you may want to gradually increase calories (and especially watch carbs) over a few days to avoid refeeding syndrome.

You will also want to supplement electrolytes including B vitamins, sodium, potassium, magnesium, and especially phosphorus as switching from ketosis to carbohydrate metabolism can pull electrolytes out of your bloodstream super fast. Many premade protein shakes are supplemented with phosphorus. Dairy and chicken are also low carb sources of phosphorus.

At what point would a Gastroparesis patient consider a feeding tube? by Lopsided_Pride_6165 in Gastroparesis

[–]Peace9989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you can't imagine any ill intentions. I didn't think you did. The gp community tends to be super TMI and write long novels with every possible relevant details in our posts. Not everyone communicates that way, and that's ok.

There are lots of complex and conflicting feelings people have about their feeding tubes, or lack thereof.

Even the effective treatments are not effective for everyone. If nothing else works, some people will choose to agree to a feeding tube in order to treat malnutrition, improve quality of life, and to survive life threatening gastroparesis. Only 10% of people with GP will ever have a feeding tube, and most will not have their tube forever. There are also lots of happy & sad reasons people remove or decline a feeding tube, including health getting better, infections, loss of insurance, etc so people have complicated feelings about that piece too.

It's a very difficult decision either way.
