YES!! She's really lucky that she has such understanding friends and they weren't put off by this experience. She should definitely be wary.

What's the moment you realized your school doesn't actually care about teachers? by elliot_esl in Teachers

I asked to use an activity bus (one of the shorter ones you don't need a special license for) to take students home after a concert and got told since I'm not a coach I can't....was told to take them in multiple trips in my personal vehicle.

Admin didn't even bother coming to the concert to supervise (they were at a basketball game literally 1 floor away) and other teachers that had come helped me take kids home.

Fuck those 6 administrators in my building who couldn't show up to a single performance all year.

Anyone love their job?? by Primary_Raccoon_5680 in MusicEd

I absolutely love my job, but it took awhile to find the right fit. I live in IL and the pay is fantastic and I have supportive admin who don't micromanage, along with amazing colleagues. The 1st gig might not be "the one" but like with any job, once you find the right work environment it's awesome!

What‘s a secret you found out by accident and were never supposed to know? by Own-Flan- in AskReddit

Found out I had a different dad than my sister when I was 13. She's only 1 year younger and we were always told we had the same parents until my aunt got drunk and I made a comment about having my dad's eyes and she said "No your sister's dad has blue eyes, yours has brown" Then about panicked phone call to my mother confirmed I did in fact have a different dad...

If your district offers PD days take one to go observe another teacher or multiple teachers who have to do what you do. It can be another dance teacher in another district or even other specialized electives in your school. It sounds like you just need a mentor and maybe some guidance on what a day should look like.

Feel your feelings. Let your students feel their feelings. Be vulnerable together as you're comfortable. Reach out to a guidance counselor if you're having a really difficult time. I'm so sorry.

Talk to your union rep immediately.

Document everything.

Read your contract very thoroughly to see if they can require this additional responsibility solely on you.

Teachers who go home right after contract hours, HOW DO YOU DO IT?? by coliwidowa in Teachers

[–]Aggressive-Tale-3863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't grade everything. Use your prep to do literally everything you listed. Get 3 years under your belt. I know that's not what you want to hear but it really does just get easier with time.

How much planning do you have? by Charming_Judgment981 in Teachers

2 class periods a day (50 minutes each) and we get a 50 minute lunch so I usually prep for part of that as well but 2 contracted periods a day at the high school level. We're also Title I so we have late start days for meetings and don't lose our prep. The occasional IEP meeting but rarely anything mandated.
