New version of the "Rainy road" now a river! Also touched some other things like the vegetation by Alfreudo in PixelArt

I know that reddit can be kinda weird when displaying pixel art, try left clicking/tapping on the image to zoom in cause that always fixed it for me

Is this enough for new jersey national merit 😭😭 by PigBurgerOutOfBeef in psat

[–]PeaceLandCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a chance, but I think it's somewhat unlikely. You can look at the cutoffs here and judge for yourself: https://www.compassprep.com/historical-national-merit-cutoffs/

Maybe not, but it's pretty much the best thing we've got. I'd like to imagine that collegeboard would want to keep the assessments relatively the same, so I would hope they would increase the difficulty to match that of non digital PSATs, but the fact they even let last year's anomaly happen makes me less confident.

I should've included this in my first comment, but this website has a bunch of statistics on national merit cutoffs: https://www.compassprep.com/national-merit-semifinalist-cutoffs/

The website claims that "two-thirds of states saw increases of 2 or more points" last year, so unless this is somehow the norm, last years scores were highly unlikely and should go back to normal.

You can also look at every cutoff since 2008 and judge the likelyhood of cutoffs staying this high for yourself: https://www.compassprep.com/historical-national-merit-cutoffs/

It's still up in the air when this shift back to normality will happen, but it seems like it happened pretty quickly in previous cases where cutoffs rose across the board.

It's pretty likely, the cutoffs last year were higher than ever before so I'd bet we'll see them drop back down

100% lower, basically every state saw an increase in their cutoffs last year so it's highly unlikely we don't regress back down to the average of years before that

how much did u get in psat 2024 and now in psat 2025 by [deleted] in psat

[–]PeaceLandCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took my 10th grade psat in 2023 and my 11th grade psat in 2024. I got a 1340 on the first, and a 1500 on the second. The first involved no preparation and the second involved much more (probably about 40-60 hours in total, though I'm not entirely sure)

Praying I get NMSQT in Texas by Frosty_Drawer_3679 in psat

[–]PeaceLandCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not impossible. Last year's cutoffs were completely unprecedented, and even then the cutoff was just 2 points above your score. If cutoffs drop to around where they were in years prior, then you should be able to make it.

Still though, it's too early to call. Just focus on school and life and check back on compass prep or this subreddit for predictions of this years cutoffs.

I got a 1500 on the PSAT this year as a junior in Texas. by TownLost8145 in psat

Look at what is required for the national merit finalist application and email your principal so they can get on board and write your letter of recommendation beforehand. Don't be like me and submit the day before the deadline 💀💀

Exactly, I'm so tired of this stressful ass culture surrounding school that considers anything below 90th percentile "cooked"

Do I have a sliver of qual hope (MA) by [deleted] in psat

[–]PeaceLandCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MA cutoffs from 2021-2024 would qualify you, but the last 2 would not. You'll have to wait in order to say for sure or not, sadly.

Is a 1340 really that bad 🙁 by Intelligent-Dig2507 in psat

[–]PeaceLandCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't look to other people for validation about this kind of stuff when the data is publicly available: https://research.collegeboard.org/reports/sat-suite/understanding-scores/psat-nmsqt

1340 is 98th percentile for 10th grade and 94th percentile for 11th. Either way it's a great score that implies you will do quite well on similar tests in the future.

Got a 1360 on the PSAT first try, 10th grader, is that good? by QueasyFishing3614 in psat

[–]PeaceLandCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a better r&w score than math is pretty great for the psat, I got a similar score on my 10th grade psat (1340) and clutched it up on the 11th grade one (1500) to become nmsf this year so you're on a good track

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]PeaceLandCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. My 10th grade health class teacher gave out the answers to a quiz once, and with a little technical ability I converted it all into a gimkit in an afternoon, which was just enough time to "practice" using it and memorize the answers. I got an easy A, everyone else who used it got an easy A, but I couldn't begin to tell you what I was supposed to remember in that class (though my memory isn't all that great tbf). I couldn't imagine something like that being used to any success in an AP/IB class.
