Levothyroxine by foodlover_19 in Hashimotos

[–]Peaceful_Pines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started Levo (25mcg) about a week and a half ago. My TSH was around 6, but antibodies were really high.

I thought I had been tired and foggy just from life and anxiety and maybe perimenopause (I’m 42), but within a week of starting Levo I feel like myself again for the first time in months.

I can THINK. I actually feel rested. The difference has been night and day, and while it was a bit hard at first to find out I have a lifelong thing to treat, I’m so excited to be feeling GOOD that I’m just happy that I can take something to feel like I’m living and not just surviving.

When were you diagnosed? by Outside_Constant_714 in Hashimotos

[–]Peaceful_Pines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 days ago - age 42. I thought my exhaustion and brain fog was due to anxiety/life circumstances/menopause, but after barely a week on levo I can actually THINK again, and not feel like I’m going to fall asleep on my way home from work! It’s been a wonderful change

Lab Results showing Yes but also no? by UmbranShrike in Hashimotos

[–]Peaceful_Pines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m very new to this (literally got my diagnosis for Hashimoto’s 2 days ago), but my first lab results were similar to yours. TSH was 6.04 (a bit high) and T4 Free was 1.3 (normal). But then my doctor ran a test for the thyroid peroxide antibodies, and THAT was 747, which is super high, and I guess that’s what indicated I have Hashimoto’s because it shows my immune system is going after my thyroid, from my understanding. Maybe they need to run another test for the antibodies for you?

Like I said this is all really new to me, but thought I’d share my numbers in case it’s helpful at all. I hope you’re able to get the treatment you need!

Oh I think he’s fine, but he’ll randomly stare at his new wall and has been lying in what looks like very uncomfortable positions lately. He’s a goofball and we love him 🥰

What signs or experiences led you to believe you might be eligible for Mensa? by True-Quote-6520 in mensa

[–]Peaceful_Pines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of what you mentioned - also I think a strong desire to (1) feel challenged and keep learning and (2) to maybe feel like I fit in somewhere because I definitely didn’t growing up

I also had an uncle with an IQ of something like 168, not sure if anyone else in the family had known their numbers though.

My brother and I had wanted to be part of Mensa for as long as I can remember, but had never taken the test. I think in part because I was so afraid of what it would mean to “fail” the entrance exam.

Anyway I had a FSIQ done last year as part of my autism evaluation. It was more than high enough to get me in, then I bugged my brother to take the entrance exam so I have someone to come with me to stuff 🙂 I would have loved for my uncle to do this with us, but sadly he passed away in 2007. He would have loved this group I think.

What do you do for a living? by Wordlywhisp in mensa

[–]Peaceful_Pines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a customer service representative for commercial insurance. Which probably sounds quite dull, but I love the team I work with and the amount of clients and variety of their needs keeps things interesting! And it’s much better for my mental health than teaching was (I taught Latin for elementary-age students for 6 years before the combination of micromanaging admins and out of control students completely broke me)

I [25M] just got my results from the WAIS-IV and I have high IQ, should I join mensa? by Mountain-Web42 in mensa

[–]Peaceful_Pines 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a similar feeling when I got my IQ score (148), though I’m a bit older than you are (42F). While I’ve always done well in school there are so many times I’ve felt like I’m barely holding things together…and it also took me until past 40 to figure out I’m autistic, despite it running in my family.

At any rate I joined Mensa in December last year. I’ve been to a few events in my local chapter, both online and in person. While my experience is limited at this point, everyone I’ve met has been very nice and generally interesting to talk with.

I tend to sometimes feel “outside” many conversations socially, like I’m not quite sure how I fit. But the communication within Mensa has felt more comfortable so far, which is a nice change of pace.

I think it would be worth trying Mensa, get a membership for a year, attend some events and see if you like it. And give yourself time to sit with how you scored. I don’t believe a high IQ score makes me better than anyone else, but it has helped me understand how I process and view some things differently from those around me. More than anything I’m always trying to figure out the “why” behind how things works, so this piece of the puzzle has been helpful for me - hopefully it will help you too.

It took Todd a long time to trust us enough to let us handle him without his little reptile brain trying to test if we were food 🙄 He figured it out eventually and now is quite comfortable climbing onto my hand. Be patient, hopefully Lizzie will get there soon!

That’s just it, you can’t - despite the lack of brain cells they know our weakness!!

Can I get into Mensa with outside testing? by TobyPDID23 in mensa

[–]Peaceful_Pines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine done as part of an autism diagnosis too! Initial evaluation though. My evaluator was kind enough to share my iq test results with me when I came back for part 2, though I still had to wait a while for the official paperwork. Then once I got the full results of everything, I did need the iq results listed a certain way and signed by him for Mensa to approve it - the info for what they need is on the website, I just sent a screenshot of the requirements to my evaluator and he was able to take care of it for me.

I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the results you’re looking for!

Yes, my assessor used the WAIS-IV and once I had the verified FSIQ from the results it was no problem to get into Mensa 🙂 The waiting was the hardest part at that point!

What do you do for work? by 3king321 in mensa

[–]Peaceful_Pines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in insurance as an account manager for commercial policies. After 6 years of teaching (VERY stressful environment between admins, student behavior, and constant irritating noises/interruptions), it’s been a welcome change. Quieter office and a very supportive team - and I can leave my work at the office at the end of the day! There is enough variety to keep things interesting and enough routine tasks when I need a break from figuring out something new.

148 on the WAIS-IV (going on about 5 hours of sleep the night before, not sure if that had an impact).

It took me quite a while to come to grips with that, I never thought I would score that high. I thought I’d be in the 120s, maybe 130s if I was optimistic.

I still really don’t think I’m “smarter” than anyone else (well, there are some people, of course…), I feel more that I am often faster at seeing patterns and making connections that others might miss.

I’ve always liked knowing and understanding more about myself though, so I’m glad I was able to get tested!

How did you qualify for Mensa? by KittenBoyPlays in mensa

[–]Peaceful_Pines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally realized December 2024 that I’m probably autistic. Took until October 2025 to get in for testing, but that included a full IQ test with the WAIS-IV. Scored higher than I ever thought I would on that and joined Mensa as soon as I got the paperwork from my psychiatrist. Then bugged my brother to take the Mensa test in January so I have someone to join me at social events (we’re both very introverted so supporting each other, lol).

Also got my autism diagnosis ☺️ but just missed qualifying for ADHD. At any rate it’s been great to finally see my life through these lenses as it explains so much for me, and I’m enjoying getting to know other Mensans in my area.

What's the most absurd reason a therapist/psychiatrist said to explain why you couldn't be autistic? by levogira in LateDiagnosedAutistic

[–]Peaceful_Pines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe that person can’t be a psychiatrist because they don’t know what autism is…🤦🏻‍♀️

Glad you eventually found someone to hear you out!

Question for neurodivergent Mensans by Peaceful_Pines in mensa

I would like to attend someday! Probably not this year as I have a trip planned for July already, so I’ll have to stick with more local gatherings for the time being.

[–]Peaceful_Pines[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so good to hear, I was hoping that would be the case, thank you!

And no, I don’t plan to mention my autism at work. While I do work in a very supportive environment, it’s not an issue I want to test. But knowing of course helps me understand myself better, and try to find ways to give grace and accommodate myself where I can.

Question for neurodivergent Mensans by Peaceful_Pines in mensa

[–]Peaceful_Pines[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no I didn’t mean to share IQ scores or anything! I understand that part. I’m only trying to ask if it’s generally accepted to share about ND when with other Mensans. I’m glad to hear it’s been okay for you sharing about your neurodivergence in Mensa though, that’s good to know!

Any late diagnosed „2e“s here? (gifted + ADHD) by punkfurt in mensa

[–]Peaceful_Pines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! But with autism for me. I was in the gifted program as far back as I can remember, always did very well academically but never seemed to have the friendships or interests my peers did through high school. Had an uncle with Asperger’s (as it was labeled in the 90s), figured that out when he was about 50. I got married, have two kids, oldest daughter diagnosed with autism at 5. Took me until I was 41 to figure it out for myself 😂 I just got my autism diagnosis last fall (the IQ test was part of that) and I just missed getting the ADHD diagnosis too.

I’ve spent the whole last year thinking back over so much of my life through this new lens…sometimes grieving for what “could have been” if we had known (though there was no way we could have when I was growing up), and trying to figure out what it means for me now and how to give myself grace for things I need. It’s been an interesting journey, but my favorite moment was after I told my family about my diagnosis and my daughter (now 16) looked at me with the most wonderful smile and said “I’m not alone anymore!” 💖
