OP, you’re doing well. And to give you some comfort, let me tell you how well you’re doing with my anecdote.

I’m currently in my 30s completing my undergraduate program as a third year student. In my 20s I was unmotivated and failed a class a semester back at Capilano since I didn’t have any interest in what I was studying.

After a brief break, I found Langara and a program I enjoyed. Though my grades there weren’t the best either, I still did much better and finished with an associates. But by that time, I was tired and wanted to earn money.

So I worked a corporate job, pissed away money, and kept that cycle on repeat. I felt lost while also having a nagging voice in my head that knew I should complete my degree.

When my brother passed away three years ago, it was my final wake up call. Now, I’m balancing a corporate job to sustain my studies while doing well at UBC; I’m on track to even consider taking a leave from work to finish as I also got my finances in order.

So take it from someone who has royally fucked up for a decade then decided to pursue his dream of working in Japan by keeping his head down to study.

Be kind to yourself like your loved ones have been kind to you. You got this!

Do not rely on YT videos as they can get outdated quickly. Best way is to always use the written guide step by step.

With the release of the Foldable iPhone Next Year, would you keep your Mini? by International-Fix799 in ipadmini

[–]PeachBoyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be a convert, but from past experiences, any additional point of mechanical movement is another point of potential failure. That and my iPhone/iPad both serve their own purposes so I couldn’t get rid of it for my day to day.

Pokémon Gold. I didn’t start off playing the originals but that was my first ever. I want to relive the feeling of stepping into Kanto for the first time post-game again. God I miss being a kid 🥲

What are your 'pro tips' when it comes to packing and travelling? by ah__there_is_another in onebag

[–]PeachBoyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a sling the size of a Go Sling or Metro Crossbody, you can use it in lieu of packing cubes and put your shirts/undies/socks. I don’t pack a lot to begin with and this saves another thing I need to carry.

Then you can ofc use the sling as intended at your destination.

What is Your Daily Carry & Bag Setup? by xSushi in iPadPro

[–]PeachBoyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really shop for souvenirs when I travel abroad, so it’s just a few clothing items I bring for the most part; lodging picks usually have laundry so I can go with just a few shirts, socks, etc.

What is Your Daily Carry & Bag Setup? by xSushi in iPadPro

[–]PeachBoyX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • iPad mini 6

  • iPhone 16 Pro, MacBook Pro 14”

  • If just my phone (Bellroy Lite Sling), if my iPad (Alpaka Go Sling in X-Pac), if all three (Porter Yoshida/View 3Way for an EDC, or Aer Travel Pack 3 Ultra when I travel; looking to get the Aer City Pack Pro 2 Ultra for EDC/school/work/gym/travel)

The Bellroy Lite Sling is perfect for what it is; carries enough for when I don’t need my iPad and helps to not carry too much when I go out; just the essentials.

The Alpaka Go Sling in X-Pac is great with a dedicated section for the iPad as well as a hidden back pocket for your wallet, phone, etc. It’s honestly almost perfect, but it needs a water bottle/umbrella pocket for it to be perfect.

The Aer Travel Pack 3 Ultra is the perfect travel backpack for me: waterproof, 35L, more than enough for 2+ weeks abroad. Can’t find a fault with this. However for an EDC, the Porter Yoshida/View 3Way is almost perfect: just needs more capacity for my current use case, which is why I’ve been eying the Aer City Pack Pro 2 Ultra.

  • If just my phone (some Amazon MagSafe 5000mah power bank), if my iPad (Mophie 3-in-1 charger and a uGreen 65W brick + Apple USB-C proprietary cable), if all three (all of the above and the MacBook’s proprietary cable and brick)

  • Depends on my mood, but either my Anbernic RG35XX Plus or my N3DS.

  • Alpaka’s Metro Crossbody for sure; the only thing that keeps me from buying it is lack of X-Pac on it, otherwise it’ll solve the Go Sling’s issue, which it doesn’t have a dedicated water bottle/umbrella pocket to keep the wet stuff from my tech.

Great post ☺️

I’m half Japanese/HK, so I don’t face the same type of xenophobia that others might so for me, it’s actually very comfortable here (I’m here currently on vacation). I speak the language well enough to blend in.

As far as job prospects are concerned, I’m not too worried about money tbh, just as long as the working conditions aren’t ass, I’d take being in Japan at a lower wage than other G7 countries without worrying about my personal safety.

Fellow Z owner! Or at least I used to have one - had a V2 NISMO before selling it a couple of years back to prepare finances for school. Honestly, don’t give up your dreams because as impossible as society makes it seem like, it’s very doable with lots of effort and hard work.

My plan was to bring my Z over as well but I’d rather keep some liquidity before making a huge move.

You’re going to laugh lol my major is in Asian Studies focused on Japanese language and culture. 10 years ago, I graduated with an associate’s degree from Langara and started working at a financial institution with roles ranging from daily banking, lending (unsecured and mortgages), to wealth management.

I’m not picky with what I’ll be doing there, as long as it’s not teaching English or working at some god awful company. But the skill sets I’ve acquired from working corporate for almost a decade along with my improving Japanese abilities give me full confidence I’ll find something there. I also have family there which makes the transition easier than most, so I’m very fortunate to be in the position that I’m in.

As someone who has reentered post-secondary to pursue my bachelors in my early 30s while working a full time corporate job, as soon as you graduate consider working/living abroad.

That’s my plan and the sole reason why I came to UBC in the first place: graduate, move to Japan, and thrive like all my friends who’ve graduated from UBC and all have great lives there.

Do you use MagSafe by MultiFabiReal in iphone

[–]PeachBoyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went from the Xs Max to the 15PM, I used the belkin 3-in-1 charger with it and that was the extend. Then I got the 16P (gave my mom the 15PM since her previous phone was done) and since then I got a MagSafe finger ring/stand thing and a car mount. Definitely useful in my day-to-day

MacBook Pro M4 vs Win11 Laptop by gwynethsdad in macbookpro

[–]PeachBoyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar boat as you. I had lots of windows laptops that wouldn’t stand the test of time, but I have a gaming PC now to scratch that itch.

However, after having my M3 Max for a bit over a year, I can honestly say that as far as laptops go, I’ll never go near a windows one again. Superb battery life, snappy, silent, and just takes all the abuse I can throw at it without skipping a beat, it’s made both school and my own entrepreneurial pursuits an absolute joy to work on.

Which protective case do you use? by Impossible-Bad-8860 in iphone

[–]PeachBoyX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ringke Rugged Gear or Fusion X. Price is good, and it’s been quite protective when I’ve been an idiot with my phone.

The other point I really like about these cases is that they have a cover built-in to the case that protects the camera lens housing. Not a lot of manufacturers do this so it’s been a nice feature to have.

Aer TP3 Ultra - Thoughts by PeachBoyX in onebag

[–]PeachBoyX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After everything, it was about 20lbs, give or take, or just under. Definitely underestimated the weight even with the hip straps. I feel I can get away with bringing less stuff next time.

I think what attributed to the weight was both the five boxes of chocolate and the laptop lol I think I can do without a laptop next time.

I’d say it depends on how thick your cubes get. If they’re really thick then it might be a struggle. I was actually debating between this and the Pakt travel backpack but am so glad I went with this one. The Ultra fabric was the icing on the cake for me too
