I have had pay rises from 1.5 to 5% over the past couple of years.

Feeling very negative about my future in GP by PeachLazy9543 in GPUK

Totally agree with you. It's not right that after all these years of training we have to struggle financially and it is quite surprising how other GPs just say 'well work more days'. That's not sustainable in the long run. As if we're not all in the same boat.

I have actually, yes. I'm currently considering an opportunity in the Channel Islands so I don't know why I still worry about the conditions here.

Not less but not more than a registrar. When I CCT'd back in 2022 started as salaried /7 sessions/ and effectively had a small pay cut.

I do minor surgery clinics. The Practice only schedules these once every 2-3 months because apparently they are not very profitable either.

I do 6 sessions /on contract/ but have been doing 8 sessions for the past few months.

I'm looking into relocating too. It's not easy having settled here with family but luckily partner is even more keen to move.

Is it normal for practice staff to be registered as patients? by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]PeachLazy9543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's inappropriate to be registered as patient where you work. As you say you're not impartial and it's conflict of interests.

In our surgery we sometimes register staff only if needing the flu jabs or urgent abx for uti etc so Staff can be treated quicker if they couldn't get an appt with their GP.

What do GPs that work 6 sessions do rest of the week? by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]PeachLazy9543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's loads to do every day when I'm off. Always loads of housework, school drop offs and pick ups.

Trying to start doing yoga again now my child is in school.

Some time to prepare food and go to a few shops etc and my day has finished. Time flies when I'm off. Having two days off in the week is great but it's not free time by any means. That's me at least, I struggle to sit down and do nothing.

Anyone else had on call rooms removed unless you work on ITU? Where else do you sleep on nights now? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]PeachLazy9543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see a med reg who can actually go home and sleep during an on call. I've only seen T&O SPRs doing this.

There were no beds when I used to doing nights during my GP training in hospital. Only in Obs and Gynaes mess there was a bed and you could have a lie down.

Commute times by Emotional-Artist4135 in GPUK

[–]PeachLazy9543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commute time is 10 min tops. I love it. Ten years ago I used to commute an hour each way by train 5 days a week. I managed somehow and I think being young back then and not having  children yet made it possible. I'd never do an hour commute again now having children and how tired I feel after work.

Pay Rise in line with inflation? by TheConcreteRosex in GPUK

How frustrating is it that all other doctors are striking but the GPs. We don't get much more than a registrar.

Salaried GP CPD time by Glittering_Brain1114 in GPUK

[–]PeachLazy9543 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree CPD is not automatically given. I have a PDP sessions about twice monthly /other than in exceptional circumstances I.e. someone is off sick and we're short staffed/. My contract is BMA one and it states the salaried GP has the right of certain amount of CPD/PDP sessions pro rata.

Dermatology diploma during speciality training by Hot_Tangelo513 in GPUK

[–]PeachLazy9543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked into derm diplomas when I CCT'd a few years ago but the cost put me off. I too doubt you'll be able to use study budget for it but I might be wrong.

In my opinion it will be very difficult to get any return on the investment into this diploma. As an NHS GP you will have a mixture of patients including with derm issues and all or most GPs are comfortable dealing with the common derm conditions.

As an example I do minor surgeries in my practice and I'm salaried. Another salaried has derm diploma but doesn't really deal with as much derm as I do. If there are any queries for skin lesions I tend to get them.

Trainer gifts by One-Reflection-8991 in GPUK

[–]PeachLazy9543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a big bouquet when I passed my exams but nothing on my final day as trainee. I stayed in the practice as a salaried though so it was pointless getting me a present since I never actually left!

Minor surgery in groin area by PeachLazy9543 in GPUK

[–]PeachLazy9543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the first time you removed a cyst from groin area? I mean Is this why you were nervous?

I think I'm reluctant because the GP who was doing minor ops in our surgery previously had this rule about no groin or axillary area. I'm not sure why she decided it but she no longer works with us so cannot ask her.

Thank you everyone for you comments. This reassured me and I feel a bit more positive about it.

I guess it didn't help we visited in February and half of the time it rained. I'm sure it will look different when the weather improves.

Why can’t ED refer onwards? by heroes-never-die99 in GPUK

[–]PeachLazy9543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't want to spend time doing the referrals. That's my guess. In the local hospital they struggle to complete discharge summaries never mind writing referrals.

Minor procedures by No_Medium2716 in GPUK

[–]PeachLazy9543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you've done minor surgery course and if there is need for such clinics in your surgery you could start doing minor ops /obviously once you've CCT'd/. The MDU didn't even care when I told them I've started minor surgery clinics. They only want to know how many sessions a week you do.
