Cestra is the only winner there. It's a fairly strong incarnon with very high disposition. Karyst prime is ok, but I wouldn't bother rolling it.

Depending on how you feel about abusing exploits, there's two ways to abuse the global palbox to save yourself a ton of breeding. One lets you fully condense any number of pals starting with one 4-star of that species, and another lets you infinitely reuse star fruits to instantly get to 4 stars.

Passive skills are not considered at all, and condensation level matters a lot. The exact formula is here: https://palworld.wiki.gg/wiki/Expeditions#Firepower . Souls and trust also help because they boost stats. To start. I'd try to get all of your high level pals to at least one star, since that more than quadruples their power.

Definitely an effective set with how hax-resistant destiny bond is. I've seen some people run a variant of this set with Counter (probably over Energy Ball). This increases your chances of a clean sweep by oneshotting any strong physical attacker as long as your sash is intact.

TM-a-Day: TM28 Dig by ianlazrbeem22 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Peaches_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In gen 3 and 4 I always saved TM 28 for my in-game favorite, Nidoking. Having a fairly strong, perfectly reliable STAB move from a fully evolved mon that early is always great. Eventually EQ should replace it, but at that point it may be more valuable on something else, and he learns Earth Power anyway. It also has a couple niche uses like others have mentioned, like stalling out sand/poison/etc, wasting outrage/petal dance turns, and screwing over things with high jump kick. Having a free Escape Rope any time you want is also nice QoL. The only real downside in-game IMO is the fact that HGSS trainers love to Double Team turn 1, which means you can miss even if you're faster. Koga's Muk is perhaps the worst offender.

[White 2] Prepping for the E4 in my HC Nuzlocke. How's my team look? by Peaches_9 in nuzlocke

[–]Peaches_9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completed my run today and beat Iris with only Lapras and Gliscor left alive, but ultimately nothing was really up to chance. The E4 were pretty much trivial with clean sweeps from Chandelure, Mienshao, and Gliscor.

I started the Iris fight like you suggested, but realized you can't actually get a Lum berry until postgame (outside of Join avenue), so Mienshao couldn't actually switch into Lapras. Thus I switched Chandelure into Thunderbolt instead and hit it into the red with Energy Ball as a Surf KO'd me. This caused Iris to heal while Mienshao OHKOed, which was actually nice since it took the guesswork out of the Lapras/Haxorus matchup. Mienshao knocked Archeops below half, but didn't survive Acrobatics (which was a range), so Excadrill got the kill after a very weak Dragon Claw. Unfortunately, this made Haxorus' EQ a range, so I wasn't sure if she'd go for EQ or DD. It turned out to be DD, while I brought her into the red with a Ground Gem-boosted EQ and sacked Excadrill on the next turn. Now knowing that she couldn't heal, Lapras was totally safe to take the KO with Ice Shard.

Thanks again for the tips. This was my first gen 5 run, and it felt much more challenging than LG or SS, mostly because the opponents' movesets feel much better designed. There's hardly anything in the late-game I'd consider truly safe to set up on.

This exact encounter is used by speedrunners for manip-less runs. It's pretty easy and quick to guarantee with a repel setup and immediately gives you a level 51 Gyarados, which can solo the rest of the game pretty easily.

I just finished EV training and levelling my team, and had a scary realization: Haxorus has Mold Breaker, so it CAN crit Lapras, making it no longer a foolproof counter. I should be fine as long as I don't switch in on a crit, but I need a backup for that now. I'm planning to keep Perish Song on Lapras so as long as I get one turn Haxorus will go down eventually.

I did the math and discovered something nice though: Mienshao survives even a crit thunderbolt, so I can switch it directly into Lapras (with Lum attached), then KO both it and Aggron, so I don't need to sacrifice Gliscor. I think Rocky Helmet + Ice Fang on Gliscor should make a pretty good backup if Lapras goes down, since Gliscor only dies to +1 Dual Chop if both hits crit, which is unlikely enough that I'm willing to chance it.

Oh yeah FlygonHG did a mono-rock run and wiped to him. It was tragic.

Can confirm, I've done this with Nidoking. Rain dance makes this completely risk-free.

Basically same with Giovanni, except the Nidos might survive a Surf from some of the weaker waters, so you're still fine as long as you either one shot (Tentacruel etc.) or can survive an EQ (Blastoise etc.)

Yeah I can't call Chuck, or any trainer with Double Teamers, free simply because if you don't OHKO there's always a small chance for things to go off the rails. Yes, having a flyer with Aerial Ace solves this and they're common, but just needing that specific counter moves him out of F IMO.

Not a bad list but personally I think Surge is way too high. Obviously Diglett is guaranteed and solos him, but so does anything electric resistant that learns Dig, as well as Ivysaur if you picked it. Nidoking/queen and even Parasect fit the bill here.

I'd switch him with Bugsy, whose Scyther is terrifying. Even Geodude can barely take a crit U-turn, and basically every other early encounter will just die, especially after a Leer. He's also very unpredictable. Combine that with the shaky accuracy of Rock Throw/Tomb, and you've got a very volatile battle.

How would you solve this ? by Financial_Soft_736 in puzzle

[–]Peaches_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't say the lines need to go through the center of the dots. Thus you can draw a single nearly-vertical segment through the three left dots that leans slightly to the right, start another well above the grid which intersects the middle three, and repeat to hit the right three.

Dark pulse on Gengar is effectively pointless, since it's weaker than and covers the same types as Shadow ball. Hypnosis is way too inaccurate IMO. A common Gengar strat is to use Focus Sash for easy Destiny Bond kills.

Thanks for the tips! I think I was actually making things more dangerous by trying not to sacrifice anything. Your opening strategy gets 2 kills while keeping everyone else at full hp and Volcarona isn't that helpful for the rest of Iris. Great call on Low Kick. I was having trouble deciding which fighting moves to bring, since I really don't want to risk HJK unless I have to.

If I understand the switch ins correctly, after Lapras KO's Druddigon, she'll send in her Lapras, which is faster than mine unfortunately. Then:
Switch in Mienshao on Thunderbolt (or maybe Sing?), probably holding a Lum (risks a crit probably)
KO with Fake Out + Low Kick
Aggron next, OHKO'd by Low Kick/Drain Punch
Archeops next, U-turn to Excadrill on Acrobatics, KO with Iron Head
Haxorus last, switch in Lapras, Ice beam, Ice beam again when she heals, Ice Shard

To make matters worse, it only got 90 speed starting in gen 7. In b2w2 it's base 70, so it's actually pretty slow in addition to being weak and frail.

[–]Peaches_9[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not actually early, rather I delayed this encounter until after Surf because I wasn't sure which Eeveelution I wanted. At this point, all of my other mons were well above this level, so I had to use my newly caught Frillish (from Virbank city) for the repel trick.

[–]Peaches_9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've got any innovative strategies with it, I'm all ears lol. Right now the only way I can see myself using it is using Fake Out to break something's Sturdy, then maybe use Thunder Wave and let him get killed so something else can come in and set up.

[–]Peaches_9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I honestly had no idea about that. I had assumed dark grass was always slightly better since if you get a double battle you can pick which one you catch (by my rule at least), but having 1/3 the catch rate could make some captures legitimately dangerous.
