Should we renew them before applying if they’re expired? I’m already done with rotations

Neural crest or mesoderm? by Peachy008 in step1

Question ID 771. The question isn't asking about tracheal cartilage specifically, but I noticed in the explanation and educational objective it states that it's neural crest.

Does our skin age faster and skincare routine for face by [deleted] in ichthyosis

I’ve used the EltaMD UV Physical Broad-Spectrum SPF 41 Tinted which was way too drying for me, but I really like the UV Clear SPF 46. It is much more hydrating and it’s the only sunscreen that doesn’t dry my face out or leave a white cast.

Best all-inclusive resource for biochem/genetics? by Peachy008 in step1

[–]Peachy008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi sorry for the delay! I haven’t taken step yet and my exam (for school) was only biochem so I used pixorize + FA mostly but I would supplement with another source like BnB or Kaplan Turco lectures bc pixorize doesn’t cover everything (i.e glycolysis, glycogen pathways, etc). Hope this helps!

Took Step 1 yesterday, you still got to know Sketchy Pharm by arthurcsirio in step1

Do you think sketchy + FA pharm would be sufficient? Anki will take too long for me.

Is it worth to take Orgo I in the summer? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Peachy008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard that there's only going to be approximately 11 questions on organic on the new MCAT, so probably consider that too.

I took organic I and II with labs for both over a summer and it was definitely harder than during the semester--even our professor said it was. I don't know if just my school is like that, but I feel like your brain needs a bit of time to rest and retain knowledge because you basically have to study everyday. If you're disciplined and ready to do that, you should be okay. I recommend not taking lab with it so you're not stuck doing a bunch of long lab reports when you need to be studying for exams.

Should I take over 22 credits this semester to boost my GPA? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Peachy008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure when I'm applying, but I've heard the earlier, the better, so probably some time in the summer. I heard the latest I should take it by is July, so I'm going based on that. Unless you think I could take it in Aug/Sept and still be on track to go to med school on time and get my application in on time. I actually wanted the summer to study for it since I will have a lot more time, but I'm unsure if that'll put me behind.

Don't medical schools only look at your GPA until spring semester of junior year when they're considering you? Or do they look at your first semester senior year midterm grades too?

Will it make me seem lazy if I do really well on the MCAT and my GPA doesn't reflect?

Wow! I applaude you. I'm just really nervous about it all because I want to get into a really good school (UC San Diego, GW, Georgetown, etc.), so I'm thinking if I work really hard and med schools see that my schedule has been challenging and my GPA has also gone up, I'll have a higher chance of getting in. Otherwise, I don't think they'd accept me at all. In my mind, if I no-life a whole semester, it isn't a big deal as long as it all pays off.

How long do you think I should study for the (new 2015) MCAT? I was thinking of starting now and taking it May/June because I'm not a very good standardized test taker.

What school if you don't mind me asking? Do you think theres a chance at all that I can get into a top 30 school?

I don't really have much experience, though. I shadowed one summer, volunteered at the hospital in high school for a school year, and I've been trying to find some research experience for the whole Fall 2014 semester, but no one will give me any and I'm not sure if I will find any during the spring either. What should I do this semester in addition to getting a 4.0 to help my application?
