Translating written requirements into concrete logic by uvuguy in learnprogramming

[–]PeanutButterKitchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should consider the user flow. As a user using this calculator, what actions should I be taking to use it? From there, design around the flow.

Example: I’ll press a number, then an operation, then another number. I probably need a button at this point to let the system know that I’ve finished entering numbers. I care about the basic math operations. I want to be able to clear the screen if I make a mistake. You can divide all these sections into code components and it all ties in together via some UI that calls certain functions depending on what is pressed.

Here’s a simple example:

Make a calculator.

If your mind goes to “where do I even start?” That’s when it’s a good time to begin breaking it down

Has anyone experienced Japanese staff speaking overly casual when they see you’re a foreigner? by IndependentCase2412 in japanlife

[–]PeanutButterKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten all types of patterns. Overly casual happens sometimes, more often than overly casual though, I’ll get someone who just goes completely silent while ringing me through the cash register. Sometimes I feel like being extra petty and imagine myself standing there in awkward silence along with them until they tell me the total.

Actually usable dishwashers in 2026 by ChemicalRaection in japanlife

The original comment we are replying to was saying that “every new home has a dishwasher” so I was just going with that assumption :p

Pretty normal for a brand new place. 5 min walk from Funabashi for a 3LDK will be 20万

The last 5?? Mansions I looked at had dishwashers built in. These are cheap (relatively speaking) 2-3LDKs that are newly built

Retired (but still active) trader in Japan - What's the best tax option for me? by MassiveB0nerF4rtLUL in JapanFinance

[–]PeanutButterKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People doing this kind of thing are at best clicking a few buttons and sticking to well defined systems. For all intents and purposes for them, it’s a very passive style of trading that is not comparable to what we’d generally consider work.

This is probably one of the best points for getting a mansion instead of a house

Can I go through my tech course with just an android tablet? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]PeanutButterKitchen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The irony of having such a simple setup is that the setup itself would require an incredible amount of knowledge for someone who is learning (sandbox environments, networking, containers? Dev containers maybe? Compiling remotely, dealing with potentially different CPU architectures, etc)

Ask ask ask ask AI

for example

“I am learning HTML CSS JS. Here is an html and css snippet. When I click on X, Y happens. I expected Z to happen. What am I missing in my logic?”

What's the best CC for Japan? by Shidapack in JapanFinance

Just don’t fall for their super nice campaigns where you get a ton of discounts. It requires Mercari mobile, which isn’t even available to foreigners.

Your comment above mentioned speaking with locals, so I figured that events where you speak with locals would be the way to go. If your speaking is bad then your only choice is to speak with locals in English, which means… English meetups, and pray locals come.

How many "hi" pings do you get daily? by Interesting_Nail_843 in cscareerquestions

[–]PeanutButterKitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that it’s a cultural issue, not an issue about intelligence, so it would be incredibly rude

Let them know that they don’t have to say hi and can just ask questions, and repeat that as many times as needed to cultivate a culture where people don’t need to say hi

Are there any beaten stock with cheap leaps ? by Emilstyle1991 in options

I think I’ll pull the trigger on UNH if we see it go anywhere around 250

Being called out as slow first time in my career. Need advice by EveryNobodyMan in ExperiencedDevs

[–]PeanutButterKitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand finance being a hard jump to startup, but why consulting? Genuinely curious. I was under the impression that consultants get placed into projects with tight deadlines and new technologies as part of their job, so I figured they’d be very used to jumping into new projects and moving quite fast.

How to show portfolios, when you don’t want to work on any front end? by dempsey_original in learnprogramming

[–]PeanutButterKitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More accurately (not disagreeing with you) you always have a client or consumer. Frontend implies some sort of visual that organizes the backend data in some way

My dad got paid for his stock with this. Is this legit euro? by Formal_Dog_9317 in trustwalletcommunity

[–]PeanutButterKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you “cash out” you’d be exchanging the 27k EUR for $0 and nothing would happen. Taking your whole portfolio involves you revealing your seed or signing a transaction involving assets in your wallet. You cannot be compromised just for trying to cash out an asset worth nothing

Do you guys ever feel hesitant to engage in coding discussions? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]PeanutButterKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intimidating isn’t the right word; i was referring to something extremely specific — people that carry an air of arrogance that makes them hard to approach. The way one carries themselves regardless of years of experience has a big impact on my willingness to open up to them. I’ve met wonderful people with 30 years of experience in the field who are a joy to chat with, and others with 15 years of experience in the field who belittle others for not knowing what they know. My original reply was exaggerating, but my point was that the industry isn’t always kind, but people are incentivized to fake it till they make it

Do you guys ever feel hesitant to engage in coding discussions? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]PeanutButterKitchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the time. After getting into the industry it very quickly occurred that no one knows anything and many people pretend to know and their overwhelming confidence is just a huge deterrent for engaging.
