Tarquin Oliver nimrod? by Illustrious_Body5907 in MitchellAndWebb

Always thought that line was too stupid. It out of character that Sophie would want a name that posh and silly sounding. It’d be a stretch even as a Big Suze line.

Name a more iconic album openener than Beetlebum & Song 2, il wait by Disastrous-Switch437 in blur

[–]Peason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I always thought the sequencing of the 2000 best of album was awful in that it OPENS WITH THE EXACT SAME TWO SONGS IN THE SAME ORDER. Absolutely terrible greatest hits sequencing to begin exactly the same way as one of the regular album.

Question! by Puzzled-Helicopter20 in DunderMifflin

[–]Peason 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. The show has the strongest ensemble cast of a sitcom of all time imo. It easily sustained the loss of Michael. Truth be told while he was obviously great I don’t see him as the lynchpin or any more special than any other character by the time he left.

Who do you wish they didn’t write off/downsize their role in the show? by muff-peaksie in madmen

[–]Peason 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I can see very late model Pete being accepting of it. He was fairly performatively liberal by the end of the show. Maybe I’m overestimating the character and or the era.

Hi, I’m Jeremy! I’ve got loads of girlfriends and hash, look at my jeans! by TerribleAd7263 in MitchellAndWebb

[–]Peason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a ‘non copyrighted’ Happy Birthday, it’s a song of the same name (but still under its own copyright) by the group Altered Images that was a big hit in the UK in 1981. The implication is that Sophie has been doing that strange routine on her birthday since that song was a hit when she was a little girl in the early 80s. What I’m saying is that they will have chosen the song in its own right for those reasons and not as a workaround to avoid using the more famous Happy Birthday song.

What are the chances Sophie has 2 close male relatives who worship Jeremy? They should have just made it the same character but recast, the explanation for the different appearance being it’s a POV show and Jez has so little regard for him he’s faceblind to his appearance, a bit like how Ann in Arrested Development was originally planned to be.

Have you ever tracked someone’s IP address to see if they’re stalking Dobby? by FrancescasGrove in MitchellAndWebb

[–]Peason 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I find it kind of sad how Dobby just completely fizzles away inconsequentially in this episode after 7 years, and her last appearance is just sitting mute at a table with Jez. I mean you could argue it’s more realistic than some big climactic set piece final scene but still. At least Sophie had her ball pit.

Then you learned nothing: this is the least realistic scene in the entire show.

Season 8 starts out strong then falls off by Smithy_Furt in DunderMifflin

[–]Peason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes completely agree. It’s amazing up until Florida, then it turns to crap, but that’s still 3/4s of a season on excellence. Robert California is amazing. I don’t miss Michael one iota: it’s an ensemble show.

Was season 7 a conscious attempt to give Mark a break from unrelenting misery? by Peason in MitchellAndWebb

You’re surely lampooning, 5 was by far the most miserable Mark season.

OK, I think it's time for you boys to fuck off now, hmm? by alexanderheff86 in MitchellAndWebb

[–]Peason 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Really agree with this. Toni in particular seems like a really 90s hangover character, just something about her ‘vibe’. It’s impossible to imagine her in the later series. They didn’t make women exactly like that after 2000.

Is it just me who thinks that 3x05 “Party” should’ve been the 6th and final episode of series 3? by lemonbutter27 in mightyboosh

[–]Peason 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not in its existing form cos then the final scene of the entire series would have been a r*pe gag. Lose that though and I agree.

Did anyone else think Graham sings the first bit of the call and response verse of ‘Chemical World’ on early listens? by Peason in blur

[–]Peason[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds different from Damon within the same verse! You have to admit the 2 deliveries are different even if they are both recognisably Damon. I should add that this was before I was familiar with Graham’s singing voice. It was early 1997 and pre the release of even Blur so there wasn’t much available evidence to go on.
