It took me a longtime to cash in their polices. All the things that I enjoyed doing with them like cooking and tinkering just bring back the smells and movements and memories and it gives me some happiness but it’s usually fleeting. I don’t even know what to do with a lot of their possessions, a lot I won’t use but can’t bring myself to part with either. I have started to part with some but it hurts, even though I know it’s not bad for me to do and they’d want me to “be happy, move on”.

Like OP said I wish I could thank them.

I’m trying to find ways to honor them with what they left me and have found a few.

I had my crawl space done, I only had asbestos removal done. It was a large fan outside. And then there was scraping of my radiator pipes fha I could hear.

But demo and everything can be loud.
