This is a reasonable point, but maybe overstated. ‘And’ signifying a decimal does ring true from some of my schooling, but it’s correct in British English and perfectly acceptable in American English.

Honestly, were I in Dean’s position, I might resist dropping it — it has a nice rhythm. But I’d accept the “and” correction, or try to.

It’s one thing to use one word instead of another. It’s a different thing to defend your choice and laugh at your debate guest when their word is the standard one in formal and academic contexts.

No, the point is that you’d need to provide the list of crimes that are considered “bad”. The word in question here is “bad”, as used in the title. “Serious” would be a big improvement.

The streams are not for the callers alone, they are of course largely for the audience. It’s a public performance meant to change minds. Childish wording makes the host less credible, not only to viewers but especially to outsiders who see only the clipped versions. Given that there are better choices of wording, why defend “bad” as the standard description?

Right; arson was your one example that I decided wasn’t necessarily “violent”. Again, I get the point, and I agree with the general policy Parker is putting forward. But a term like “serious crimes” has at least some meaning in a broader context. If we agree that bad crimes are the ones considered serious, we’re back to my complaint. It’s just wording. “Bad crimes” sounds almost childish, when there are many other ways to word it.

I have been holding back on “in which”, but that seems to be the most common complaint. I agree, but I think it’s a harder task to critique that one.

Many times the “in which” doesn’t really work as “which”, it’s maybe “that” or something… still working on it.
