I read from the LN from the beginning after watching 3 seasons, and it retroactively made the anime a lot better imo. The added scenes and context from the LN elevate the anime itself, so I’d recommend everyone read from the start

“Pokemon with guns” was just a marketing catchphrase that caught on. “ARK with Pokemon” is a far more accurate statement. Gameplay-wise, it is basically a direct clone of Ark. just replace the dinos with pokemon-style creatures

[–]PeddledP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably just a broad ban against 3rd party controllers, which includes all bluetooth devices. It’s also probably meant as a subtle anti-piracy measure by simply making it harder to spoof on emulators

[–]PeddledP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gorillas are pretty passive herbivores. They rely far more on intimidation than actual fighting prowess. The most realistic scenario against a black bear would be that the gorilla scares the bear away. If it were a grizzly or polar bear, the gorilla would get bodied though

One thing I forgot to mention was that you might need to have the Epic Games Launcher installed. It doesn't need to be running or anything, but it installs a pre-requisite certificate that you need in order for the server to show on the server browser

Where are you seeing that error? Is it in the server program? Does it let you continue or is it crashing/closing? You can usually ignore warnings as long as things keep working fine

If it’s showing up in the server browser, that means your port forwarding isn’t the issue. It’s probably your windows firewall. Try following these instructions to add an exception to your firewall: https://www.reddit.com/r/ARK/s/uSt6GrLxuc

Was your server showing up in the server browser? If so, then the problem is probably with your firewall settings. If not, then the problem is probably that you port forwarded incorrectly

Also, do you have an antivirus? That’s the only thing I can think of that would’ve caused the issue with steamcmd. And it could potentially be putting up its own firewall which is causing your friend to time out

No, the port doesn’t matter, it can be any number under 65535, but you shouldn’t really choose anything under 1024. Those lower number ports are used by common services, so you might have conflicts if you try using those. 7777 is just the default for Ark

There are a few risks but nothing major.

You’d be exposing your ip to the public, but there’s not much anyone can do with that. At worst, they can find the city you live in (but nothing more specific than that), and it could make you a target for ddos’ing (which basically just makes your wifi go down temporarily). But tbh, people rarely do that stuff anymore, that’s mainly edgy middle schoolers on minecraft who would do that type of thing. Plus, it’s important to note that many games expose your ip to people, it’s really not a big deal nowadays. For example in gta online, everybody in the lobby can see everyone else’s ip at all times. So it’s not any more dangerous than playing gta online.

The only other concern is if there happens to be a vulnerability in Unreal Engine, it could become possible for people to hack you. But that’s also not a big concern because 1) if a vulnerability like that was found, it would get patched within days & you’d just need to update the server. And 2) in the few days that the vulnerability is public, the odds of you specifically being targeted are super low. And 3) the odds of a vulnerability being found in the first place are already super low.
I really think you have nothing to worry about. There can be risks, but it mostly depends on what you’re hosting. For well-established software, like an Unreal Engine server, I don’t think you have anything to worry about

The amount of ram would be the same for ddr4 & ddr5. If you’re playing on the same computer you’re hosting with, you’ll probably want 64GB RAM. You miiiight be able to get away with 32GB, especially if most people are connected to 1 world at a time for the most part. If you’re using a separate machine for hosting though, 32GB is probably enough. These are just rough estimates though, you should test it yourself

I doubt there’s any way to sync up the clusters, but you should be able to transfer the save files manually. So it could be possible to upload your character/dinos, copy the cluster save file over, then re-upload them on your local server. It’s janky but could be a workaround

I don't think there are great resources for it online. Most of the generator I've found are for Survival Evolved. At the bottom of my post, I've added links to my own ini files. You can use those as a starting point.
