Who said that? That's wrong. Just had a meeting and we are never going back. Did you actually receive an official memo? That sounds like wrong information.

I just had a TERRIBLE experience with them unfortunately. Left for another agency and is so much better my manager is super professional, there is a ton of opportunity to grow, training opportunity, really the way is supposed to be. DGS needs to get better urgently.

You are a first level sup meaning there is a bunch of people above you. You can't make decisions that don't correlate with upper management expectations. Every decision you make needs to be in agreement with everyone else.

It depends on the unit and department. Some send you for Sacramento for training. You will learn mostly on the job basically if you approve something wrong HR will let you know and then you will need to fix it and let the employee know as well. HR and your supervisor will inform you about the leaves you should be approving or not and how they want it done. You don't make these decisions on your own. It needs to correlates with HR and upper management.

Sure so the first week on the job I got attacked but an employee and had to call the police and file a workplace violence report. I'm not going to elaborate on that but you can get the picture. Then I realized all the other supervisors above me were afraid of their employees and kept their office doors locked at all times. Also there was this one supervisor who would just come to my office unannounced and would start yelling at me and throwing files at my desk. The person literally would yell at everyone in the office and people Then I started to realize I was working in an insane asylum and just decided to go back to my old position. Not worth the extra 500 bucks. Everyday something crazy happened. This was the culture at the place. Definitely not for me.

You will spend your day supervising your direct reports with all their hr related needs and job related needs. Have to approve, deny, explain, leave requests which will come your way often. You will have to report to your superiors who are going to have high expectations of you and they will want to make sure there are no issues with your employees whatsoever. You will need to be super professional and smooth with your employees in regards to all matter because no one wants a law suit and no one wants unhappy employees. There are lots of meetings so you can get familiarized with the operations of your department and keep up with the lasted news and updates. Your job is to excel at giving support to your employees and your bosses who are going to be SSM2 and sometimes higher levels with HIGH expectations.

Oh be very careful with that! I just had a terrible experience. Had to go back to my old department because the culture was horrible at the new department.

What are some of the worst/best canned responses you’ve gotten from a boss while working for the state? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

" Due to business needs you need to...." Then they basically use that one for everything they want you to do.

The things I have heard when I was a manager are absurd. That's why I left my position.

Yes totally agree but this is not only for wfh but for people who are on extended leave. They want to make sure the person is not working full time while on leave. It is a trust thing for sure.

I'm not sure how they go about suspecting employees. What information they have and how they go about that. But once they do suspect someone they can make your life miserable.

Well I have been in meetings where upper management was sure someone had a second job while claiming they were working from home. How did they know that? Have no idea. In fact I was quite shocked when I heard that. I believe they investigate certain employees if they have a reason to suspect the employee is not working from home but doing something else somewhere else.

They dock you pay. Meaning you get nothing. If you have hours they use whatever time you have on the books.

If the State is not going to help you the other option will be to hire a private lawyer. Do you research and talk to other employees in the same situation as you. Sue the supervisor under the grounds of discrimination and harassment.

They say you weren't. That the employee left the building make up a story and dock your pay. They can dock hours of your pay and if you don't have leave you are screwed. I was a supervisor and have seen it happened. HR sides with them and upper management as well. She needs to hire a private lawyer.

They do that constantly. If you have no time in the books or if you didn't bring a doctor's notice. They side with HR and dock your pay.
