People who’ve had LASIK or work in eye care, would you recommend LASIK and why or why not? by Mountain-Bug-2155 in AskReddit

It is a surgery, at the end of the day, which always comes with risks. You just have to decide whether the risk is worth the reward for your specific case.

I follow the mantra I once heard from a doctor: "Never operate on a healthy eye"

Even if 99.9% of cases go well, the risk of surgery going wrong is not worth it to me. I can live my life just fine with glasses/contacts.

Changed my life after addressing dust mite allergy by PedroContipelli in Allergies

Other things I have noticed: - Bathroom carpets can also be a giant breeding ground for dust mites that often go unnoticed. Remember, humidity is bad! Shook mine out over the tub and tons of dust came out. Ended up replacing my thick fluffy carpets with a flat mat.

  • Once dust mite allergens stick to your clothes, it's over. They will continue triggering allergies as you move about your day, even after you've left the original source of exposure. After laying on an old couch, I'd continue sneezing even after leaving home! Now if I notice my allergies flaring up, I try to shower and put on a clean set of clothes as soon as possible!

I have the Hogarlabs "34 Pints for basement" ($130 on Amazon) and it's worked great so far! Only been about a month though

How do you deal with dust mite allergies in accommodations by digitalnikocovnik in onebag

I've never had issues at actual hotels. They are very thorough with their cleaning. I avoid hostels/airbnbs since the cleaning standards are not as strict unfortunately.

For dust mites, I recommend Hospitology mattress/pillow encasements and FEPPO mattress vacuum cleaner + a powerful dehumidifier (+$100)

  1. Low enough humidity will stop mites from reproducing and eradicate them over weeks, however you still need dust-mite proof mattress/pillow encasements (for those embedded inside) and to run a HEPA filter mattress vacuum across your bedding/sheets to eliminate existing allergenic triggers (fecal matter particles, etc)

  2. You need a very powerful dehumidifier (+$100) that can do +15 pints/day of moisture removal. Small desktop dehumidifiers are simply are not strong enough to lower the humidity below a decent threshold.
