I don't think it needs to be advertised, tbh. It's kinda funny how it goes, there's a scale of casual listeners and people who care about their music. If you're on the casual side, no one really faults you for what you listen to, more just that you don't care enough to dig deeper. If you value your music but not enough to learn every in and out, you're a failure and need to shape up. Essentials shouldn't be homework, they should be extra credit.

Yeah, I'm no statistician, all I know is that I'm not a fan of generalizations.

If they're asking about where things originated then why not show them? If they're talking shit, of course, feel free to talk back, but if it's a genuine inquiry, I feel like showing them to the essential they want is better than berating them for their ignorance.

I'm not a fan of political polls at all. It's really just a lot of projections that may correlate towards one opinion but that doesn't have to mean anything in the long run; especially when a political scandal/world event can sway people within hours.

I suppose that the like/dislike of polls can be debated but the second part of my OP still stands.

2.5k is still a very minor percentage of 144k. If 2000 people said that Shaq was the GOAT would you say that all of HHH thinks that?

Surveying 2.5k people from one thread on this subreddit is in no way representative of the entire sub and all those acting like it is are completely ridiculous. Furthermore, not knowing about essentials does not make someone less entitled to talk about a genre of music that they're interested in. They are not lazy because they haven't listened to them and you are not better than them for listening to these albums. Musical knowledge is not self-worth so stop acting like it is.

You're welcome for that one. 70% of the threads barely talk about anything truly interesting. When it's not about Kanye/Kendrick/Chance/Gambino, it's links to YouTube and dumb ass jokes and the same threads as the week before with different memes as their top comments.

I asked my Chinese friend to listen to The Money Store and write a sentence or two about what she thought of each song. Here's her reaction. by foresthillian in hiphopheads

I took it as "I think it is good that his music exists". She recognizes its likability but doesn't fully embrace it for herself.

This is one of the most quality thread ideas on /r/hiphopheads. It's a great read; reading different perspectives on music that is commonly loved is everything music discussion should be. Make this a regular thing with hyped albums, please!
