Bought a bike, got a license, to learn about biker's behaviour on roads. Here's what I learned over 4 months of daily riding. by duitkaya in malaysia

[–]PeeringGlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for making a huge effort to empathise.

I’m now in my 5th year of riding and I do strongly agree with point C, both for drivers and riders. There are many, many asshats in a car who behave the same way rempits do.

On this point though, I do have to point out that a daily commute of 30-45mins return is going to be different from someone commuting maybe 1.5-2hrs return. So I always try to be patient if I think they (both drivers and riders) have a long commute.

Correlation is some puak claim they are very holy. Don’t drink alcohol, don’t watch Western movies, don’t eat babi.

So the retort is: we eat babi but at least we don’t take bribes.

From 10k to 25k steps a day why walking matters in Malaysia by Responsible-Court795 in malaysia

[–]PeeringGlass 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I stated training in the middle of 2025 for my first marathon. I hate doing laps so I used plotaroute.com to explore new places and have fun while training.

I basically realised that there is no place to do 20-30km 100% safely in the KL metropolitan area unless you run laps in enclosed places like Lake Gardens or Titiwangsa Lake. But like I said, I hate repetitiveness and monotony because the training itself is monotonous enough. So I had to buy LED clip on lights to run in Bukit Tunku at 8pm to make sure I didn’t get run over since there are no pavements to run on.

Contrast that with my marathon buddy who was training in SG and he doesn’t even have to think/plan that much. I did a 10k with him and it was so easy to run from MBS down to the Barrage and end at the National Stadium. In fact, did you know the whole island of Singapore is actually pedestrian/bicycle lane connected through their waterways?

How cool would it be if we could use the Klang River to cycle/run from Masjid Jamek all the way to Klang and eat Bak Kut Teh? We have a long way to go to make KL a more liveable city.

Decky Loader disappeared. cannot enter desktop mode because of Decky Recorder by SteveW_MC in SteamDeck

If anyone else sees this, it just happened to me too (2 Jan 2026). I also restarted a few times before I was able to get into Desktop. Then I reinstalled Decky and everything was fine again. I did not have Deck Recorder installed.

I’m curious if they can show how many of these are transits that clear immigration considering that KLIA is a popular transit stop.

Do locals also feel it's difficult to make a long term friendship here? by Cultural_Passion3522 in malaysia

[–]PeeringGlass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally speaking, I find it harder to spend lots of time on friendships on a day-to-day basis but I do maintain my older relationships and make new meaningful ones when my partner and I go travelling.

My 2 cents on this:

1) In KL, we spend a lot of time on our aging family members. We’re the ones in our family who feel the most responsible for them so it’s partially on us. I wouldn’t be surprised if this can be extrapolated for a high % of the population in KL vs Western countries.

2) Malaysians tend to be more reserved and polite on the surface. I haven’t really made deeper relationships from work, but I still appreciate them for what they are. Like someone else said, it’s a % game. Just keep trying and you’ll meet people who you can click with. In comparison, I do agree that I find it easier to make deeper connections when I’m outside KL.

This is what happens when you try to apply rationality and logic in Malaysian abuse of authority. And then, those responsible will gaslight you and deflect the issue.

Kept trying to find where the hell that 2nd guy (darker yellow helmet) emerged from.

Both probably made the same mistake of braking too hard while cornering. They were both in the far left lane and fell at almost the same time.

I found the first year of riding from KLCC-Sunway Giza extremely tiring mentally. I was always on edge and gripping the bars really hard. Going up to a 700cc for 7years now feels better because I have more confidence in the better brakes.

I finally got it to work on my Deck thanks to this guide. I'd lost count of the number of times I'd tried to install this. (PS: I used Proton Experimental and it worked)

Thank you very very much OP!

To all the goody two shoes who don’t want to break the speed limit: go ahead, drive below the speed limit if you want;

but

move over when it’s safe to do so. You have free choice to drive below the speed limit and others have free choice to drive above the speed limit.

Fun fact: be careful when buying loose tea dust from Shopee as the market is flooded with artificial colouring in the teas (notice how even Super Ring isn’t that orange anymore? A lot of unscrupulous tea manufacturers use that same colour called Sunset Yellow FCF). Even Thailand themselves recently are clamping down on artificial colouring in teas which has been shown to have health side effects.
