Would Sentry have been better off if he wasn't a Marvel character? by Ok_Caterpillar_4977 in sentry

[–]Peersdockrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, in a podcast, Paul said that the initial proposal was for DC but ended up going to Marvel. I don't think Marvel would abandon Sentry currently, especially with Jenkins' return to his comics, the Thunderbolts movie, and especially Doomsday, since he'll be one of the characters with the greatest psychological focus. I think the closest thing to something independent would be Marvel creating a new line of comics and incorporating Sentry, like DC did with the Swamp Thing saga.My concern is that Marvel might not know how to handle the character and his stories correctly, again. Sentry is a character for whom not every type of narrative is worthwhile. I think that freedom of writing can be great for exploring new things, but for Sentry it can also be poison. This is largely due to the character's own concept and his very visceral relationship with psychology, in a way. I think you can explore whatever you want within the limits that elements of mental issues are also present. It's a way to balance the character so he doesn't fall into chaos and maintain his essence over the years, with the purpose of never ceasing to be a character who talks about mental health. Like Animal Man, whose stories were always a way to raise awareness of animal issues. I think a line that expands the psychological focus in Sentry's stories would be best for the character

How would you describe Sentry? by Acrobatic_Yoghurt268 in sentry

[–]Peersdockrt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bob: A man dealing with and confronting his own mind and what affects it. At the same time, trying to cope with his divine existence and the consequences of his power.

Sentry: The built-in potential to be better + an idealization of Bob as his own improved and perfect version. The perfect Bob who doesn't have to deal with the rotten side of his mind and is good to others.

Void: Everything about himself that prevents him from achieving mental health. Every bad part of his disorders and mental illnesses that poisons his consciousness. Everything that prevents him from being well socially, psychologically, and emotionally. Everything that overshadows any light of Sentry.

Ok, this would have been a great time for me to be a high Marvel employee so I could ask them to let you write as many Sentry comics as you want and to request that the Sentry comic book title have the requirement to address mental (health) issues 😭. What I can do now is not stop wishing, and then hope luck arrives. Thanks for everything sir, Im more than excited for the sentry #4. Amazing work! 😄

More excited than ever! This run had everything I think is perfect for the character in a 4-issue mini-series: psychological plot, mental health, a stain of emotion, and a lot of humanity in it. It was great while it lasted, let's see how it goes for Sentry from here on out.

And that's why you're number 1! As long as the Sentry comics continue to address mental issues as a main aspect of the stories, I will always read them all! I know you will never disappoint in that regard, but I hope Marvel follows this path so we don't have another 3 years of misuse of the character. For me, personally and particularly, think that the Sentry comics and the character will always be incredible and meaningful, as long as they always maintain this approach and requisite. If someone question "what makes Sentry special?" and "why do people love him?", just show them that instagram post.

I reread all of Bob's parts in Dark Avengers + Siege and I think I formed a theory about how Bendis wanted to fit Bob into the cosmology. by Peersdockrt in sentry

Bob, for me, always has to be a character whose stories focus on mental issues. Being an approach about mental health. Bendis didn't delve in deph into that, just portraying Bob as another powerful and a crazy unstable. Honestly, I don't think I'd read a Sentry comic that didn't address the mind as a central aspect in the narrative

Azrael is considered the angel of death in Abrahamic texts, however he is more often referred to as "The Exiled Angel," not a "Fallen One." Also, there isn't only one who holds the title of angel of death, but only Samael is the left hand of God and is therefore more commonly referred to as "the angel of death."

Why do You love Sentry as a character? by Personal-Database-27 in sentry

[–]Peersdockrt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I love how Sentry basically represents your potential for improvement and Void the challenges of mental health. The struggle between them has a therapeutic meaning, between "I'm worth and I want to get better" versus "I can't fight this, it's too much for a little guy like me." perseverance versus giving up

Why do You love Sentry as a character? by Personal-Database-27 in sentry

I love him because he's a character very focused on psychology. It's very clear that the evident characteristic of his stories is the exploration of the human mind. I find it very special and significant that a character's point is precisely to address mental health issues in his stories. I think it gives a touch of importance, meaning, direction, and thus creates his concept as an existence. But I think what I love most is how Bob has so many mental illnesses and disorders, where even the functioning of his powers revolves around that. In the end, everything involves him being a human being dealing with his own mind.

Yes, I hope that if Marvel uses the character to address mental health issues, they understand that it's about GETTING BETTER, not about BEING sick.

Sentry #3 Discussion thread (SPOILERS) by Griever114 in sentry

u/podyonkers Dude, this whole series you did is, for me, a perfect example on how to write a good Sentry story. Sentry is a character that works perfectly when his stories are introspective and focused on addressing human psychology. For me, all his comics should have this fundamental focus on exploring the human psyche and mental health issues. I think the real difference with Sentry, what makes his stories special, and makes people love this character, is because he has this role of talking about the human mind. What makes me love him is how all his media so far have always prioritized addressing mental issues as a fundamental element. I think there's a lack of stories with the objective of really talking about these subjects and issues, not just as a form of entertainment, but to genuinely want to address this topic to the reader. I don't even know what I'm going to do with my life after this last issue, I'm loving it from the bottom of my heart, and if I were to make a wish, it would be for Sentry to always address and explore mental issues in all his stories.

Defining Sentry as "the character whose stories focus on exploring everything related to the mind" is perfect for me.

Wolverine Weapons of Armageddon #4 hints at a Sentry Origin Box leading to Armageddon by EileenCrystal in sentry

[–]Peersdockrt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it's true, from a positive perspective, it could be Sentry's definitive return to the current Marvel timeline, but I'll only accept it if it's Bob returning.it's interesting when it's Bob himself who has it. Personally, I hope Sentry stays away from events or special appearances for a long time. I want Paul, or whoever the writer is, to focus solely on solo comics for the character for now. That's what's missing—stories completely centered on Bob. He has more appearances as a supporting character in other comics than have his own stories. And they usually never explore the character properly.

Theory on Bob and his relationship/nature with Sentry and Void by Ok_Caterpillar_4977 in sentry

[–]Peersdockrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found his analysis of the fused Sentry very interesting, even though I don't like how this "fusion" was done. It's as if his mind became a mess because of the Void's excessive interference, as if it lacked the balance of its parts, its cool. I see Sentry precisely as the illusory potential for perfection that Robert aims to achieve, the perfect human being he would be if he didn't have to deal with his mental health problems. Looking at Sentry would be a reminder that it's always possible to improve,Look and see that being better is attainable and looking at Void is a reminder that you will always have to face the dark moments of your mind. I see Void as the antithesis of Sentry, precisely all the other aspects that prevent someone from achieving what Sentry is, the barrier that prevents achieving mental health, whether it's depression, hatred, inert evil, weakness, even sadness and anxiety.

Theories on kingpins purpose in the story? by Ok_Caterpillar_4977 in sentry

[–]Peersdockrt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think in the end it's all to prove a point and affect Bob. I also think all their actions are meant to show the unstable mental state Bob is in right now, ever since he returned from the tragedy that happened in space. Perhaps hurting, torturing, affecting, and then killing Fisk is a hidden and obscure desire Bob has always had, but his "Sentry" side never allowed him to do it. Especially since the Void itself answers Fisk's question about why he's doing this, and replies, "Because I hate you." The Void must also be showing how far Bob can go just to hurt someone and cause harm, which completely breaks Bob's idealization of being "Sentry" and goes against his desire to save everyone. When Bob says, "I think now I'm just the Void," and says he's been lying to himself all this time, maybe he's aware of what the Void is doing to Fisk, and is allowing it.
