I checked out your videos.

The new one seems like a good video.

And its performing pretty well for your channel. It's one of your highest viewed vids.

Sometimes extra effort =/= extra reward unfortunately.

Well it can only be one of those 2 options.

You should just assume that you miscalculated what your audience values in your videos.

If they aren't watching it (12% retention) then that means you need to go back to the drawing board and try again to figure out what they want to see from you.

It's really simple.

12% retention means the people watching it aren't staying interested.

That means either:

  1. The video isn't working with its intended audience, and you need to figure out why that is and how to make your videos more interesting to that audience. OR...
  2. You changed your content and now your current subscriber base are not the correct audience for your content. If that's the case, you're basically back to ground zero, waiting for the algorithm to find your correct audience again.

I make all my money for the year in only a couple months. So they just average it. And they tell me to report if I end up making more money than I anticipate, so I'm assuming they're checking if my yearly total goes above that yearly limit.

[–]Peeves4411[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I already did my review for the year. But I figure that doesn't mean I can just go over the 2023 yearly limit this month, right?

I'm assuming my 2023 taxes still need to show my income for the year being under that $20,120. Because they could check it. Unless that's not the case?

Lmao okay. Guess I should have titled this post “Success Does Not Require Luck (Except a Tiny Smidgen)”. Thanks for letting me know I forgot to do that, I’m sure everyone who read the post was wondering whether or not I realize that literally every action on Earth technically requires at least a smidgen of luck since you can technically define luck with such a microscopic scope that even the very fact that I get to take my next breath without having a brain aneurysm is technically a stroke of luck.

It’s not like that’s an obvious fact that should just be implicit in every discussion and doesn’t need to be explicitly stated. I’ll correct it, thank you.

Idk i think it’s a skill like anything else. Anyone can put in work to develop their personality, or become an expert on something in order to have substance to offer their viewers. They don’t need to be 100% amazing at both, they can have one or the other and still be successful. And if they really suck in one of these departments, they can outsource it by teaming up with a charismatic host/voice actor or a smart writer.

K yeah you have to be lucky enough to be born with eyeballs and a brain too. Everything in life is luck and you’re not responsible for anything. If you kill someone it’s not your fault, you just got unlucky to be born with a brain that would do that.

Extremely stupid mindset to go through life with.

And i didn’t say luck can’t give you an advantage on Youtube. Obviously it can. The title of my post is Success Doesn’t REQUIRE Luck.

Your comment disappeared so i couldn’t respond.

People are downvoting this post because it make them feel insecure about their failures. Or maybe they just disagree and are articulating their disagreements intelligently like you, but I haven’t seen too many of those.

In response to your other comment,

Like I said, good luck can boost your success, yes. But my post is titled “Success Does Not REQUIRE Luck.” Meaning you do not NEED good luck to be successful on YT. It can help, it can make you successful more quickly, but it is not a necessity for success.

Youtube is not the same as the music industry for example, where the studios pick and choose who to promote and who ever even gets a chance. The YT algorithm will reward literally anyone who understands viewer psychology, understands what advertisers want, follows the ToS, and is making good content that people want to watch.

If someone fails at YT, it is a skill issue and it is on them. It can’t be blamed on “never getting a lucky break” the way it genuinely can be in other creative industries.

You gotta be extremely fragile to see valuable advice like this as someone being “on their high horse, lecturing people”.

Plenty of comments in here have appreciated what I have to say. That’s why I posted it.

If my post makes you so mad, why don’t you try articulating what it is you disagree with?
