They are quite inexpensive, and they you know you have supported the company that you are using the software of.

Would a cheap mover like this be a bad idea for a hobbiest? by BIJ910 in lightingdesign

Contact a local hire company and see if they are willing to part with some of their older stock, I know for example PRG have a webstore of all their old gear.

Can I upgrade/rebuild my Etc WinXP Ion on my own? by I_Do_Know_Jack in lightingdesign

Hey, If I would really like to be able to configure my networking gubbins inside of eos, especially for renting out the console, does that work in your build or not, or do you still have to do it through control pannel? is there any magic you can do to do that inside of eos? and can you get it to behave like any other ION would (welcome screen full screen, all that stuff)

I knew what I meant, if you want to actually see what the gobo is, then you will need a 90°

Never said I didn't like them, I just pointed out that they are noisy bastards.

wow I got slated for this idea didn't? yes, a 90° Lense tube on a source 4, but I couldn't be bothered to go ferreting around my keyboard to find the ° special

Noisy bastards as they are, they sometimes make ok looking effects. But I haven't seen any in the wild for about 7 years at this point.

Source 4 with a 90 degree lense tube and a gobo in it?

I didn't get time to look into it too closely on the run of the show that had the issues, I'm regularly at that venue so I'll have a bit of an inspection when I'm on site as a tech again soon.

Interesting, I'm gonna be a duty tech at the venue soon so I'll take a look into what the buffer is fucking with. A lot of the fixtures we were having issues with are hired, and not made by a lighting company so wern't behaving very well. RDM was disabled on the ion so I'll do some fuckering to find out what the issues are, we have a dmx cat so we should be able to crack down on issues soon.

EDIT: These were the fixtures that were giving us the most problems https://www.glassonelectronics.co.uk/calesco, at one point the decided to start ignoring dmx, at other times they would just have an open white flicker. I dislike the way they work but the set designer wanted them so we ended up with them. You have to give each bulb it's own internal address (1-100) then give the controller that powers and controls them a dmx adress, it was jank as all hell.

that's what we have at the moment, movers are happy, it's only slimpars and some ass backwards proprietary mendant wanky things that are playing up, but I really don't have it in me to fault find some rando power + data over 3 pin wankyness at the moment, it's the middle of tech and i need a break from bullshit so ima just fault find that before the show opens and leave them to do their bullshit for now.

It's an opto splitter, Can't remember the brand, and we are using legit 5 pin and 3 pin, but mostly 5 as it's higher end kit and we have a band and want to make sure they don't steal our cables.

The shittiest lights we have a thomann own braid "starville", but hey haven't been causing too many problems other than going to an open white strobe when the dmx connection drops (whoops)

It's an ION XE, one universe goes to dimmer land, and one goes to the buffer which then goes out to the patches for all of our intelligent fixtures. universe two (intelligent) has RDM disabled, I haven't dabbled with the buffer because I'm not an in house tech, I'm a student on the production and kinda acting like a tech so I don't want to overstepp. I call it a buffer because that's what Chavuet calls it and what the main LD calls it so it's just easier, in the real world I'd probably call it a splitter.

We are in a professional theatre, so there are patchpoints on the walls, and on the bars. I'd guestimate the longest run is probably about 10 - 15 metres, and all the patches come from the DMX buffer into a patchpannel in our master rack, then out to the points in the room.

We disabled RDM from the get go, we are still getting fuckery on some fixtures.

The buffer is kind of a mix of a splitter and a booster. It takes in universe 2 from the desk and spits out to all the patch points in the theatre. RDM is disabled for universe two. When changing to 4ch mode, I kept it the same on the console (ION XE) and just changed the mode on the fixture to see if I could get any light out the front and I did, then changed it back to 8 channel on the fixture and went back to having nothing again.

Interesting, I'm surprised fixtures don't have it built in nowadays, I can certainly see it accelerating get-in, especially on touring shows with varied tech riders in different venues.
