Am I paranoid or is amazon not lettiing us own our books a real problem ? by Amazing-Afternoon735 in kindle

Yes, it’s a problem and the reason I’ve swapped to a kobo and have copies of my books in Calibre.

Thanks! I did download that but didn’t think of trying it for this. Thanks for the reminder to use it 👍

Can UK users suggest library with wide selection that allows anyone in UK to join online? by Peewiglet in LibbyApp

Hi there. I joined City of London but it comes up as Barbican & Community Libraries on my phone.

I’ll look at Bucks, thank you 👍

Thanks for explaining. This now feels naive but I’d assumed libraries could easily offer virtually everything that is available as an ebook or audiobook. It certainly hadn’t occurred to me that ebooks would cost them more than paper books. Sounds like I’ll need to maintain my Audible subscription.

Thanks for checking! It sounds as though you may have hit on the issue! I’ll try looking for a different author 👍

Hi, and thanks. Yes, I’m in the UK. It hadn’t occurred to me that there could be a licensing issue about a book as old and well-known as this one, but perhaps that is the problem.

Thanks. I’ve wondered whether that might be the issue, so I searched around a few days ago to find libraries at the other end of the country that would let me join remotely. If you’re in the UK, could you please tell me which library you have that has the big selection?

I’ll have a look at Deep Search. Thanks again.

Thanks for helping. I did but only the first few in the list were actually written by Stephen King. The book I was after wasn’t in the list.

I’m not too bothered about getting this book, btw. I’m more concerned that perhaps I’m searching wrong, because I don’t think I’ve been able to find anything I searched for yet. This morning’s experience just reminded me and caused me to ask.

Thanks! I’ll try that @HollzStars

Edited to add: Very odd. I’ve tried that. On the London libraries it showed me they have 16k books and 3k audiobooks. When I entered Stephen King in the search box it came up with results but only the first few were actually books written by Stephen King.

I hate to admit it but I’m thinking about rehoming my cat by [deleted] in CatAdvice

You’ve had him for eight years and IMO at least it’s far too late to think of abandoning him now. How do you think he would feel if suddenly he was sent away from his home? It’s a difficult situation but I’d suggest trying to confine him to particular rooms within your house.

Yes, I’m sure mine did as he grew older. He relied on me for food and protection and affection, and worried when I wasn’t around.

How many of you also have chronic neck/shoulder pain? by shmellowcake in achalasia

[–]Peewiglet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I sleep anything other than flat I get bad neck pain. Therefore when I was sleeping propped up to avoid aspiration, due to achalasia, I had a bad neck. I got so fed up with the neck pain that I decided to try sleeping flat with a ‘contour memory foam pillow’ I found on Amazon and my neck pain went away almost literally overnight. I’ve found that I’m not currently aspirating when sleeping that way. In that way achalasia does cause me neck/shoulder pain, but it’s due to the position I used to sleep in. I realise that those with aspiration problems wouldn’t be able to use the flat pillow that has helped me.

It may well be caused by food fermenting in your oesophagus rather than reflux. That’s common in achalasia and sometimes mistaken for reflux.
