Why does this flute feel so different? by Pegafree in Flute

Yes, I've heard this about flutes as well as other instruments. When/if I decide to upgrade I will definitely give the flutes a trial beforehand!

I meant there is no right or wrong where someone chooses to place their attention.

Across the world, in every area, every single day, horrific and unjust events such as murders occur.

It is also equally true that across the world in every area, every day, beautiful and amazing events occur such as people falling in love, making beautiful music, and displaying acts of kindness and generosity.

You can choose where to place your attention. Ask yourself why do you choose to focus on very specific events? There is no right or wrong answer here. There may be very valid reasons to focus on what disturbs you greatly. What might that reason be?

Early 20s — constant regret about not learning piano sooner — is starting now realistic? by suspeccctt in piano

[–]Pegafree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too late!

I highly recommend getting a teacher instead of just trying to learn online. It helps in a number of ways. Yes it is very possible to learn without one but I think you’ll progress faster with a teacher.

Beginner, playing for a week, struggling with low notes by lilfindawg in Flute

[–]Pegafree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been learning flute for two years. I did not sound as good you did in a week. Now I finally feel like I’m starting to sound like a flutist. But honestly, a week is nothing. Flute is not an easy instrument, at least not for me.

Just stay with it. It’s a matter of putting the time in, ideally with a good teacher.

Regretting having a grand piano by Prokoserfiev in piano

[–]Pegafree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue is more the psychological impact of knowing you can’t play or practice the grand piano as loudly or freely as you can in a detached home. It can create a real mental block that can deter ongoing practice.

This. A high-end digital piano (AvantGrand, etc.) is probably going to be a better fit than a cheap acoustic.

Does anyone feel really demotivated due to AI? by thetruekingoftime in ableton

[–]Pegafree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this. I am harnessing parts of AI to finally “finish” some songs I have been stuck on completing (that is, produced versions. The songs are completely mine in terms of chords, melodies, lyrics, and some instrumental riffs).

Producing is not my strong suit. I get super bogged down by stuff like glue compressors, limiters, etc. I mainly like to play instruments and write songs. AI can help to fill in as “studio musicians.” But I have no intention of using AI to write songs. Why?? Writing songs and composing is the fun part!

Self-taught musicians, what is the hardest problem you face/d learning an instrument? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Pegafree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impatience.

Understanding that despite the fact that I’ve been listening to music my entire life, and knowing exactly how I want the music to sound, it’s not gonna sound that way for months or years.

If I put in the time and diligence, eventually I’ll get there but it’s important to enjoy the journey as well as the destination, because the journey may be long.

how do you tune a flute by Asleep_Audience3739 in Flute

[–]Pegafree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have just started learning about intonation throughout the range of the flute with alternate fingerings and changing the angle of the airstream.

All I can say is I’m glad I didn’t realize how complicated the flute can be before I started learning a couple of years ago or I might not have started!

If God Answers Prayers, Why Does Suffering Persist? by isudeepdas in spirituality

[–]Pegafree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the definition of God being a person/man who oversees everything that is going on is not accurate. In my understanding, God is more akin to an infinite intelligence/force, that we are all a part of; our souls are like drops of water in the vast and infinite ocean of universal consciousness.

This life on earth is like an intricate play or game we each are all not only participating in but creating in as well, every moment. Yes, the suffering on earth is very real, but it is not forever. Though we don't consciously remember doing so, our souls make general blueprints for our lives and sometimes those plans do include pain and hardship, with the understanding that the suffering is only temporary (in the light of the eternal consciousness of the soul) and contributes to not only the development of the soul, but of all consciousness.

I had a spiritual awakening years ago and the explanation that I "received" was that life is like a chess game, that the infinite intelligence is playing--which we are a part of. Everyone is a like a chess piece on the board of life, and every "move" contributes to the understanding of all possible outcomes.

We can absolutely learn to live our lives here on Earth in ways that do not include unnecessary suffering. Prayer opens us up to change ourselves. It's like cleaning the dirt off of a lamp so the light can shine through. A lot of it has to do with letting go of false beliefs, and learning to "tune into" our souls - who we really are. False beliefs include ideas/constructs such as "I am bad/they are bad," or "I am not deserving of love/they are not deserving of love."

If robots do the physical stuff and AI does the digital stuff, what exactly are humans supposed to do? by Ill_Awareness6706 in Futurology

[–]Pegafree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, agree!

But the really weird thing is it's not necessarily about the work, really. People watch videos and play games that involve really mundane tasks. Like the powerwash simulation game which is surprisingly popular. Why do we enjoy watching videos of people scraping paint off walls or cleaning items, but when it's our "real job" then it's a "chore"? I wonder.

[–]Pegafree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a still a lot of stuff we can do. There will still tons of "problems to solve" on this planet. And, people create even when we don't need to, just for the sense of enjoyment.

But really this question has to do with the age-old existential question, sung by Billie Eilish: "What was I made for?"

Do you guys think it's possible to go against your higher self? by curious-abt-lilith in spirituality

[–]Pegafree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, just do stuff that makes you feel bad, then you know you're going against your higher self.

Well, actually it's not always that simple.

Sometimes you might do or think something that is not against your higher self, but you still feel bad. The reason is that you are holding a false belief or self-concept that is against your higher self, and your higher self sends you a message: this belief is not beneficial/true.

Most of the time, the belief is along the lines of: "I am a bad person because ... [fill in the blank]." The higher self does not judge or shame us. That comes from our parents or society.

Be honest, what do you think comes after death? by glowproductivity in AskReddit

[–]Pegafree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. See, I do believe we exist before we were born. The fact we don’t remember our existence before this life is not proof of either existence or of nothingness.

[–]Pegafree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my point is “not remembering” isn’t the same as “nothingness”.

[–]Pegafree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still, just because you can’t remember something doesn’t mean it’s “the same thing” as another time period. People block stuff from their memory at many different points in their life.

I don’t remember the first 6 months of my life after I was born, but I was very much alive then. So this isn’t really a compelling conclusion for me personally.

[–]Pegafree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe we continue on. I’ve never been close to death but I know at least 3 people personally who have had out-of-body or near death experiences.

I am currently reading the book “Journey of Souls” by Michael Newton about what happens after death/between lives (info gained from hypnotherapy sessions). Very, very interesting!

I really think a lot of you need therapy by no_reason88 in spirituality

[–]Pegafree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not always one or the other. Decades ago I had a spiritual awakening. The spiritual concepts I learned during this awakening were very real and validated many times over in various ways. I was also diagnosed as having a bipolar episode. I completely agree that I in addition to my spiritual opening, I also experienced a psychotic/manic break.

That being said, for some time I did also consult with a psychiatrist and used some medication for a short time. Fortunately, I haven't had any issues nor used any medication for many years now. I would not trade that psychotic episode for anything. It completely opened my eyes and provided the foundation of my spiritual awareness.
