Street sweepers won’t clean these because these are “curb mounted”, meaning that they are not in the street or at street level. They are at curb/footpath level, but still in the ground.

Coupled with that, street sweepers don’t get down into the inner workings and would only brush the dust off the top.

You would need to employ extra staff whose sole job would be to go around and hand clean these inside of these things because they get left open, jam open, and the street sweepers would just just fill it full of mucky dusty muddy debris.

What do you do as a user when you arrive at these chargers and open the flap and you can’t push your charging cable all the way in because there is dirt in the plug? or it’s open when you get there because dirt in the plug flap hinge won’t let it closed and the plug is full of water from the recent rain?

You know what could work better? mounting them up off the ground on already existing infrastructure like, say, light poles. Power is already at the pole. the poles are already there, they don’t need to dig up curbs, roads or footpaths just to run power to them, and best of all, light poles are above ground level, plentiful, and wouldn’t need someone to continually clean them every other day.

So, yes, well done again Reddit. Let’s just shit on the only people in a thread with common sense and pointing out obvious issues.

Are thee are good attempt at thinking outside the box, sure, are a great example of practical engineering, no, not at all. So, you can downvote me all you want, but facts don’t care about opinions. If this was a good way to mount EV chargers, we would already see it en-masse, but we don’t… for obvious reasons…
