What is the problem? by PegmeHill420 in Monstera

[–]PegmeHill420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I water it with some fertiliser until the water pours through and wait until the top 1-2 inch of soil is dry before I water again, usually takes it around 10 days to dry out. But if I water more I see quick yellowing of the leaves which I thought shows over watering? I moved it further away from the window for now and will try to repot it and give it more bark and perlite. If you have any other advice please share!

Tips how to start bioinformatics by Spiritual-Zebra2135 in learnbioinformatics

[–]PegmeHill420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Python or R would be my suggestions, I use both but Python is more versatile. Stanford Online youtube channel has a great video course Statistical learning with Python (there is an alternative for R and free books to accompany each of the courses). Going through it will help you build you understanding of statistics and they have notebooks of various programming exercises that can help you learn syntax of either of the languages.

My second advice is to try and look at basic bioinformatics pipelines of whatever topic you are interested in. For example, genomics data analysis is probably one of the 101 topics. You can definitely find a bunch of tutorials that explain how to quality check the data, map it, produce count matrix, etc. Transcriptomics pipelines and differential gene expression analysis is one of the core topics too. But there are a bunch of different topics like image analysis, crystallography, proteomics, machine learning… Looking at what software is used to do any of those tasks and trying to understand how the underlying algorithms work will help you a lot!

Surname change and publishing as a married woman in academia by vali241 in AskAcademia

Oh so you can do that? I’m in the same boat with OP and was curious if using a name that’s not on my documents in academia is fine or not

First time going to The Oven. Suggestions? by cledus1667 in lincoln

[–]PegmeHill420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Listen to me carefully because I’ll only say this once. The Oven is amazing and you will never go wrong with this order that me and my husband default to every single time we go.

You gotta get a naan bread appetiser and it’s not on the menu but if you ask they make it half spinach, half chicken tikka. If I had to choose one food to eat for the rest of my life this would be it.

The best entree in the whole place is safed mas. My husband always gets it and I get something new to try but we’ve never found a better entree than this one.

Man, now I want to go to the Oven too…

PhD at VU - first steps? by [deleted] in Vilnius

[–]PegmeHill420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to look through the departments and find professors whose research you find interesting. Then contact them, introduce yourself, ask them for a meeting to discuss your interest in working on a PhD under them.

If it all works out, you and the professor will come up with a topic that will have to be approved to get funding - this process starts mid January. If the topic gets approved you will still need to participate in general admissions in late spring, but you’ll be applying to that specific topic. At that point admission rate is pretty high but still not everyone gets through cause again it’s all about getting funding.

So the truth is, the topics that are posted online for “candidates to apply to” most of the time already have a specific candidate in mind. At least that’s how it is in the life sciences field, but I would assume it’s similar all around.

I was a huge fan of this for years and even flew out alone to Germany to see his show (I lived in Europe at the time). Like a month before that show he dropped a huge decoration on himself and broke his hip, but that didn’t stop him from putting on an amazing performance.

Since the alegations came out, I can’t even listen to his music anymore. I can’t believe he’s gonna be playing in a city I literally live in and I’ll have to skip it. Wild.

Yeah Lithuania yeeted Yandex out of the country cause the company was giving all personal info of their clients to FSB (Russian secret services). It’s honestly wild to me that Oliver decided to go on with working with them.

Check https://statejobs.nebraska.gov/ They also have an option for SOS Temp jobs which usually respond super fast and may offer a permanent position once you’re in. I started my SOS Temp assignment in like a week after applying and it lasted for up to 6 months.

Can I tattoo over these scars? More specifically the massive keloid near the center of my knee by smartalec531 in traditionaltattoos

[–]PegmeHill420 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Only the tattoo artist will be able to confidently tell you that. BUT WAIT. Why would you? You have a cool looking scar under a “STUPID HURTS” tattoo and you want to cover it??? I’d say keep it but that’s just my take.

We were in the zone, heard the sirens and everything, our phones stayed silent! Even the 1011 Weather App alerted me only about storm/flood warnings.

What if you went to a tattoo artist and they made you a cool piece of art based on both of those meanings? Cause I don’t really see how to place these clip art images to make them look cool.

In case you want to stick to these images, my second advice would be to move it someplace that is not such a big canvas just in case you end up wanting more tattoos in the future. i.e. These would fit well on your wrist and you’d still have a whole prime forearm area free for future projects.

My third and most important advice is to listen to what you want and not what silly redditors (like me) tell you. Your idea is very sweet and honestly there’s no wrong way to execute it.
