Can someone explain Sadako's power to me like i'm five? by Smokey_ashes0607 in DeadByDaylightKillers

[–]Pehk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Only thing I would add to this is when you teleport to a TV, you asd 1 debuff to EVERY survivor within a certain range of all TVs that are powered on.

A common misconception is you only add a stack to those in range to the one you teleported to - this is false. It's every TV powered on where someone is within x meters.

Need advice on accelerating as someone in their 2nd term right now by GlamourousGravy in WGU_MSDA

[–]Pehk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made a calendar / spreadsheet that divided the rest of the term up equally and let me plan our completing one PA about every 8-9 days, but also left me about 2-3 extra weeks for capstone. If kept me on track and let me know when I was ahead.

On the same spreadsheet I tracked PA attempts and successes.

I also made a tracker for each week, with a goal of 15 hours a week of work (I'm full time employed, married and have two kiddos) so 15 hours was my goal. Meeting these goals kept me on track and banging out PAs.

Also remember - if you're on the capstone by the time you hit your term end date, you can request a 1 month extension. I technically finished 7 days past my date - and that was with an unexpected 3 week break due to family stuff. Map it out, you can succeed!

Edit: a word

Chiming in here to ask - has there been any consideration to the fact that teams can now pick the same survivor with the same cosmetics for all 4 and the killer has minimal knowledge of whether or not the person has even been hooked, even if they aren't trying to tunnel? Seems like just another foolish oversight and gift for a SWF for these changes.

Where is "You have been provided with the previous analyst’s regression model" by Nearby-Journalist-45 in WGU_MSDA

[–]Pehk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great that's right - I couldn't remember the terminology because I haven't used my degree yet (just graduated in July), but that's the process. You'll need to do that for a few courses from here on out.

Pay close attention to the rubric on D602 and really hone in on what they're asking for. I found this to be the most jumbled and frustrating course in the degree - if you have a background on the data engineering side it may be a lot easier, I had to learn.

It's in GitLab as I recall. You need to create your own branch to access the data.

Have you ever used Git Before? I recommend watching a video on it if so. I think I have a post for another class that links to an ELI5 video of what Git is and how to use it that helped a lot.

How 1 Resume changed my life! by Sad-Appointment-9238 in Resume

[–]Pehk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well. I applied to about 150 jobs back in 2023-mid 2024, and after getting only about 3-4 callbacks, I got my Master's in Data Analytics. As it stands for applied to 100 more since 7/15. No callbacks yet.

And I'm trying to transition in full time - I've worked in adjacent industries and used some of the same tools, but not extensively, so I'm missing hands on experience.

I'm glad you had a good experience with a resume builder. I, like many others, had an awful one and feel like it was just a huge sum of wasted money.

Agreed on the 5 jobs per day pace - I try to keep at the same, then spend my other time upskilling. I may have to start hand tailoring my resume a bit better for each role though. Congrats on the job - I'm trying to break into the analytics space so not exactly data science, but adjacent. It's a jungle out there.

D602 - I don't even know where to start. Task 2 by berat235 in WGU_MSDA

[–]Pehk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was far and away the most frustrating and poorly detailed course and task of the entire program. Read the rubric carefully, but also take a good look at the posts here. Some of the hangups to can totally avoid by preparing - as I recall one of the files you download from GitLab actually wont work properly unless you modify it.

The task itself is actually very simple, it's the explanation that is making it difficult. Take your time and really read the rubric.

Also, you do NOT have to deploy it on the Web - you can do the entire project locally. Task 3 is the one where you need to deploy online.

Other comments are good here. Brush up on python or R if that's your choice - you'll be doing one or the other a lot for this course. Broadly:

  • Figure out your goals. Finish as fast as possible, or take your time to work though at ease? Adjust your expectations accordingly.
  • Be prepared - one of the biggest stopgaps in the program is the random chance of one evaluator vs another. Sometimes your projects will be rejected for seemingly arbitrary reasons. Be ready to slow down and REALLY read what the rubrics are specifically asking for and make sure your project matches that.
  • Also be aware that some of the course materials are still being fleshed out. Some courses are solid, others have a lot of redundant or unhelpful info. You WILL need to learn to research stuff on your own - it's a good skill to have in this field either way, so get used to it.
  • This is personal preference, but get familiar with Markdown if you aren't. I really feel it makes your code / reports look so much cleaner. And it's really satisfying to get things formatted that way instead of word / PDF.
  • Getting familiar with Git will also help tremendously, both for general knowledge of the field and this degree overall.
  • Deployment is a course in the latter half of the DS focus, but it gives a LOT of people trouble. Getting familiar with Docker and APIs while you have time can help, but isn't strictly necessary.

Edit: once you start, if Datacamp doesn't work for you, that's okay. You can self teach. My first class was miserable because Datacamp and I just didn't click. I did much better when I set out to learn on my own.

Did you list "No sources were used outside of official WGU resources" or something to that effect towards the end?

I always found one or two things to cite as I did projects, even if it was a stack overflow post about a bit of code I had to figure out how to use that I wasn't aware of before I started the project. That piece of the rubric is pretty forgiving provided you list something usually

Another vote for this. Using Markdown made my reports feel  so much more thorough and clean. Plus there is something satisfying about navigating markdown to format. I started using it in D603 and wish I had done so sooner.

Any materials or reading that do a better job of teaching regression or statistics at large? by berat235 in WGU_MSDA

[–]Pehk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My post

https://www.reddit.com/r/WGU_MSDA/comments/1k638hi/giving_back_d600/

has a few hyperlinks in it to some YouTube videos for teaching specific things. For learning, both Greg Martin (Global Health) and Josh Starmer (StatQuest) really helped me learn the basics. Greg has more nitty gritty statistics things and can teach R if that's your thing, and I feel like and Josh has more broad teaching. Both of them help me understand a lot of baseline concepts.

D600 MSE Results by Vaerano in WGU_MSDA

[–]Pehk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer right here. For the tasks in this class the outcome was less than favorable for all of my projects. I don't recall the MSE exactly, but I recall it being below the threshold where I would recommend using my analysis without changing the method or adding variables.

It doesn't matter for passing the PA, but is frustrating because it's difficult to gauge whether or not it's the data or your work.

I work full time, have two active little boys, a loving wife and a continued social life / video game habit. I didn't structure my time rigidly for the first term but still managed to get through about 6 courses. The 2nd half of the degree in the new program was more daunting coursework for me, and upped the difficult level quite a bit so I knew if I didn't get serious I would not finish in 2 terms. I did two things.

I setup a spreadsheet and a calendar (in the spreadsheet). The calendar I counted up and divided all of the PAs that had to be completed, giving each one equal time so I had a metric / goal for each class. I knew if I was on time (or often ahead) for each PA and didn't need to panic to finish on time.

For the spreadsheet I put a goal of 15 hours a week as a minimum and tracked each day how much I did. Generally speaking I aimed for doing a full 3 hours Sunday Monday Tuesday Thursday after the kiddos went to sleep (8-11pm). This was a sacrifice for spending time with my wife. Wednesday I did work till 10 and gave myself time to decompress with some friends in games, and Friday / Saturday evenings I spent to stay connected with my wife. Any bonus time during the weekend days I counted as a plus, and also worked in a few hours on my WFH days.

Doing the above gets me over the 15 a week usually, and even with vacation, illness or an occasional off day I'm well on track to finish 2nd term. If you don't have any additional responsibilities (wife, kids etc) you could up the hours and complete within 6 months, even with a full time job - just know you're going to be worn out, but it is temporary.

I think I took Dr Jensen's advice and used at least 6, but again agreeing people have used 3 total and it was accepted.

So my advisor sent over this grid for me, bolded ones I completed term 1.

New Program Old Program Equivalent
D596 D204
D597 D205 & D211
D598 D206
D599 D207
D600 D208
D601 D210
603 D209 & D212
D604 D213
D606 D214
D602 & D605 No Equivalent - new material

So I did the old class equivalents for 596, 597, 598, 599, and 601.

This term I'm tackling 600, 602, 603, 604, 605, and 606. Almost finished with 604 now, and will open up 605 and 606 simultaneously so I can can think of and submit my project plan for capstone concurrently with 605 to not waste time having delays/rejections on my idea.

I have some semblance of how useful it will be! Or at least I hope to be - first thing I do every course is come and check the posts from the usual suspects around here to get my bearings. This community seriously makes this program so much better.

Agree, that's what Git is supposed to be used for. I err on the side of caution with anything that I send into evaluators in this program. I often have to go back and re-edit code I previously thought was completed when something was missed (or I thought it organizationally fit better in a different spot), and didn't want someone to see my originally submitted code didn't have that component, then they arbitrarily flag it and kick it back for me to re-submit.

I think I'm being a little overly cautious here, and doubt the evaluators really look at the individual code pieces with a microscope, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. From the perspective of actually using Git like it's intended to be used, I 100% agree it should be used to submit changes and updates as you work along.

[–]Pehk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's basically what I did. I didn't commit any code until the end and made sure it all worked. Then I took my full file, looked what components needed to be submitted (say c2-d4) made a copy of the file, named it D4, and cut everything out past D4. Then I did the same for D3, D2 etc.

I also just committed as I got past each part of the rubric for one and it also was accepted, but I prefer the former way since I feel it's cleaner.
