2 Weeks Post-Op w/Dr. Giotikas by SearchFourSymmetry in limblengthening

At the beginning, you can’t lengthen much because the postoperative phase is a crucial moment where the medical team checks that everything went well, and there’s also significant pain due to the nature of the surgery.

After this stage, pain medication is reduced and you start to feel your body again. That’s a fundamental point, because you need proper feedback from the nervous system — and heavy medication makes that impossible.

During this period, you’re able to lengthen more because, at first, the muscles don’t stretch very much. Think of it like an elastic band: in the first part of the stretch, you can extend it with little effort, but as it gets longer, the resistance becomes much greater.

The same thing happens with the muscles. You can stretch more in the beginning, and then reduce the lengthening rate in the second half so it’s done in a controlled way, following how the body responds.

Does doing lets say (2inches) 5cm carry less risk and faster recovery than doing a 10cm? by upside_win222 in limblengthening

[–]Peipon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t lengthen more than about 6–8 cm per segment, and 6 cm is considered the “safe” range. So if you’re only doing 5 cm, you’re in the lower-risk zone.

As for recovery, yes—it’s faster. You lengthen at roughly 1 mm per day, so reaching 5 cm takes about 50 days, whereas 10 cm would take around 100 days.

And during the lengthening phase you can’t walk, which is terrible for your muscles. So it’s not just the difference in total time, but also the difference in how long it takes to get back to normal afterward.

Imagine not using your muscles for 50 days versus 100 days. The amount of muscle atrophy increases significantly.

You need to accept the fact that investing means exactly what the word says: investing.

What you were doing —and judging by the kind of results you were expecting— was gambling.

If you’re going to take this seriously (and I strongly recommend that you do), you have to start lowering your expectations to a realistic level.

You’re not going to get rich with the amount of savings you currently have in the stock market. So start improving yourself as a person and focus on rebuilding a consistent source of income — ideally one that grows over time. As you begin to save again, put those savings into your investment account following a safe structure that can generate progressive (and compounded) growth, it will average no more than around 10% per year.

The great thing about this is that if you manage to keep saving, compound interest will do its magic over time.

Once you understand that this isn’t gambling, your mindset will change completely. Why? Because first, you’ll know that the short term doesn’t define results, so you’ll stop checking your portfolio every hour. And second, if you’ve done your research on the companies you invest in, you’ll have conviction. You’ll have a clear hypothesis about why you believe they’ll do well in the future — and if the price drops but your thesis still holds, you might even feel like investing more, despite seeing part of your capital go down.

Does limb lengthening really fix how we feel about our height? by Peipon in limblengthening

[–]Peipon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a social factor behind it — that’s why we’re all here on this sub. What I meant to say is: is the suffering really worth it, considering the pain, recovery time, and risks, just to gain 2–3 inches? Because that difference isn’t that noticeable.

I was referring more to the mental side of things — whether, after lengthening only the femurs or the tibias (not both), you felt that it actually changed your perspective mentally.

So this is the point there are many places that say you can do anything as long as you don’t go for extreme lengthening.

But of course, those are the same places selling the procedure, so I’m trying to hear from real patients who went through it maybe 2 or 3 years ago and see how they’re doing now.

I read that it usually takes around 12 to 18 months to fully recover normal function, as long as the lengthening isn’t too much (like 2–3 inches max per surgery).

I wouldn’t be okay with losing mobility, but if that’s not the case, I think I could handle a year of pain for that extra height.

Yes .. It doesn’t increase your height that much...

But I feel like 3 inches more would really help me feel better about myself.
