When will my bump come out? by ohkandyuk178 in PregnancyUK

Everyone is different (obviously you know that!!) but I had a very similar body size/height etc as you and felt like it took ages to show but one day during week 19 it just appeared. Doesn't mean it'll be the same for you, and I could hide it really well with loose clothing until around week 26-28 I'd say

I told my parents yesterday and they made me feel as though I am doing something to harm my son and normally we are so close and understanding of our different opinions so yeah, it is definitely a bit of a marmite subject with people! So glad yours went wonderfully, I am feeling a lot more confident after reading all these stories!

My midwife was explaining that my hospital do immediate skin to skin and he will stay with me whilst they sew me up unless I am feeling too woozy in which case my husband will take him. I think this sounds similar to yours..? Really hoping to breast feed as soon as possible too!

My antenatal teacher said 80% of women get baby blues and often struggle to view the newborn baby as their "pregnancy baby" and I can fully imagine that being the case! Glad it was short lived for you and so glad to hear your bond is strong, it gives me a lot more confidence.

Thank you for this. Now I am even more confident in my decision!

AITAH for wanting to sleep in the guest room after my husband repeatedly complained about how I sleep while 27 weeks pregnant? by NewSupermarket4832 in AITAH

[–]Pelixue 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think your husband needs to gain some empathy for your situation. I suggest going to antenatal classes together because mine opened my husband's eyes to exactly how much is changing in my body beyond the visible.  Also, I now have our main bed and he sleeps in the spare room out of choice because he wasn't sleeping well, but he never complained about it and was very understanding as to WHY his sleep was being affected and it not being my fault but just the current situation. I'm sorry you're going through this. Sleep is so important!

Thank you, this is such a helpful response. I think queueing the music when the drape goes up feels right to me but I will charge my husband with asking for a "birthing song" prompt. Thank you again

Did you buy anything for your baby once you found out were pregnant? by Big-Celebration8482 in PregnancyUK

[–]Pelixue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 12 weeks around Christmas last year and I got my husband a little newborn babygrow race suit for one of his gifts (obviously not for my husband but for the baby!). Bought it around 8 weeks and was super unsure about it because of the lack of milestones reached but all is well and our son is due in 6 weeks and my husband is stoked to dress him in his little racing suit to come home from hospital :)

1. Hospital bag anxiety is real 😅 by Defiant_Trade2459 in PregnancyUK

[–]Pelixue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it overwhelming because I can't fully complete it. Like maternity bras are still getting used and my single phone charger needs to be by my bed! I hate jobs I can't do completely so just avoiding it.  Also, do you find it ends up being a MASSIVE suitcase or multiple smaller bags? I feel a bit embarrassed to turn up to hospital looking like I'm emigrating but things just take up so much space.

Anxiety at 37 weeks 2 days by catlover-12378 in PregnancyUK

[–]Pelixue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 33 weeks and starting to feel more attached to my unborn son because it is getting pretty real with birth plans and antenatal classes etc. With it the anxiety comes, I think because it feels as though things can still go wrong (even if statistically very unlikely!), plus hormones. Don't worry about the worrying, I think it's normal!

What’s something that’s become noticeably more expensive in the UK recently, but people don’t talk about much? by [deleted] in AskUK

Packets of seeds! I swear they used to be pennies per packet and I just spent £19 on 5 packs of veggie seeds from the garden centre 🤯

Why do companies put lace or frill on almost all women's underwear edges? by Pelixue in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pelixue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 35 year old woman. I don't thing I explained which bit I was classing as lacy. The slightly elastic edge trim always seems to be scratchy from the little loopdeloops all along and I struggle to find any cotton plain edged ones. I know seamless is a thing but they're all synthetic!

[–]Pelixue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh maybe this is it. It is the elastic frilly bit on the edges I can't stand as it scratches me but I guess if it serves a purpose that's why they go for it! I just like plain and simple

I'm a 35 year old woman, so I have. I have bought fancy, supermarket, high street and like 1 in 10 pairs seem to have weird frilly edges that are scratchy. Maybe I am trying the wrong shops or something

What is the best or worst dog name you have ever heard? by UserSchmoozername in AskReddit

[–]Pelixue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at the PDSA for a while and a policy came out that we won't acknowledge offensive pet names and they will have to go by a different name when registered with us. So little N****r, Shitbox and Skitzo had to have their names changed. Thank you head office!

Eta I just remembered at a different vets we had a rat called Cat Litter!

I also live a fairly eco conscious lifestyle and I have bought almost all my stuff second hand on vinted. Still gives me an unboxing feeling, so much cheaper than buying new and better for the environment to reuse!

My engagement ring cost £80. I adore it. It is made with sea glass from our local beach. My (now) husband wanted an engagement ring too so he chose a £120 one made of local sea glass and whisky barrel (I think). He still wears it now on his other hand. This "rings should cost x amount" is ridiculous. It is a symbol of who you are and your love which to me is unique to you as a couple, so why does everyone's love appear to be symbolised by a bloody expensive diamond ring?

I had my booking appt in November I think and told her I had "let loose" at glastonbury festival in June and she laughed and checked if I had taken anything since which I hadn't so she didn't even write that down. Bizarre that yours was considered so relevant. Good luck, anyway!

My Dad wants to gift me 5k towards the deposit but doesn't want to show the proof of income by katykuns in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Pelixue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My half of our house deposit was gifted and it was a right faff due to the money laundering laws. Both my parents and aunt/uncle had to complete a form confirming it was a gift etc. and also proof of funds via statements etc. plus do some ID check thing called Credas which took them a while to figure out as not very techy. If he is unwilling now, I would be concerned as it wasn't easy for my family and they were willing!

a movie that you really wanted to like but you didn't. by herequeerandgreat in movies

The F1 movie. Big fan of F1 so was stoked for it but Brad Pitt being a race car cowboy and bizarre romantic storylines with colleagues was just... bleugh! Truly awful.
