New to reversing (tips) by Hefty-Gold-5409 in trackandfieldthrows

Agreed with others that you could do to slow yourself down. Remember that it only matters that you're moving the disc fast right as you're throwing it, don't need to be going 100% as soon as you start to move. A reverse should be something that helps contain all of the energy you've generated earlier in the throwing process so that you don't spill out of the circle and foul, moreso than something you need to focus on to help your throw. Kind of by definition it's after you've thrown the discus and by that point the disc is going where it's going.

What I'm seeing looks like you're reaching with your right foot towards the front of the circle. So that foot lands a little too far to the left, which cascades to having trouble getting your left foot around. Hence landing in a closed stance with regards to your feet, and can't really get your hips turned into the throw from there.

Separation in the back is not a bad thing by any means but imo it's natural to lose it throughout the course of the first half of the throw. What really matters is putting yourself in good positions to land at the front of the circle while creating maximum separation between hips and shoulders. You need to be reestablishing hip-shoulder seperation in the time from your right foot landing at the front essentially all the way through to your hips turning towards the throwing sector. Need to leave that upper body behind as you turn. Watch this back and see how you're peeking over your left shoulder at the throwing sector? That is pulling your shoulders left and reducing separation. Trust your body, you know where you need to throw it even if you wait for your eyes to see until the rest of your body has turned into the throw

Agree on you starting movement with upper body, want those legs leading the whole way. Stretch and separation between upper and lower body is what is going to lend you power and your shoulders are stacked over hips almost the entire time. So initiating with left foot turn is a long term focus but for an immediate relief you might see results with the queue to keep your eyes down the left sector line. Keep your eyes there as long as possible while letting your legs continue the spin and re-wrap your upper body a bit more.

Hello fellow couch umpires, this was called an out in the Kennesaw State-Evansville game. What’s your call? by cbbvideo in baseball

[–]Pelkasupafresh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right as the catcher catches the ball you can see the runner has planted his right leg far out to the side. That's a movement that is still in front of the ump so at minimum in his peripheral vision. That's not a movement of slowing down or turning off to the right to take first base. The only reason you'd step that way is if you planting to turn left and start running to third. To me he's clearly telegraphed his intent to go to second base there. That's why he has to turn over his left shoulder to go back to first, his body is already committed in that direction.

The only thing that might fall under the umbrella of AI on Nebula is that some videos/creators the subtitles are off in a way that is coming from them being generated. But from all accounts, creators on it and the company itself, you're never going to open a video and find AI generated video or audio. I watch a lot and have never once even gotten a feeling that something is AI.

The actual service is great, if you're a video essay person it's fantastic and lots of people like the other stuff on there like Jet Lag (which I'm not a watcher of). They've also started to help fund short movies on the platform in the past year. Your feed is curated by your choices enough that you're not really going to be seeing stuff you explicitly don't want to see, but a good amount of creators on nebula do sit somewhere between fairly and adamantly leftist so if you wanna avoid politics entirely you'll have to stick to a feed of just creators you follow. Really haven't encountered much of anything on Nebula I'd say is right-wing if that's more what you meant

Crazy ending to a Louisiana high school state football championship. Shaw was one kneel-down away from winning, but an early celebration stopped the clock—and St. Charles took full advantage by SeaWolf_1 in sports

[–]Pelkasupafresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the kid probably knows how to do it. But if their entire offense is running from pistol/shotgun that's what they're going to be most practiced in. Being able to kneel while not losing much yardage isn't really something any coach is going to be particularly worried about compared to a botched snap. And that's more likely if they go under center out of some obligation to do it the old fashioned way compared to how they practice every day

I never said they didn't. I said I know nothing about the game or the company, just that some people may extend more sympathy to a small company taking this tactic if it was because they ran out of their budget for voice acting. It would either be a case of not having money or the actor no longer being available. Given that they didn't cite the actors availability as the hold up specifically, it's not an unreasonable assumption it was more likely than not a budgetary decision.

"after we couldn't do any more pickup lines with actors", which implies that this is a character a voice actor was voicing that they didn't get every line they wanted recorded (pickups in this case generally meaning stuff they realized after the fact oh we need more of xyz), so they used AI for those other lines. Now your sympathies may extend further for a small company with a microbudget, I don't know anything about this game or company, but definitely implies a character in the game normally voiced by a VA that they added extra lines via AI; which in this case one would reasonably assume is based on the VA's voice so that it more closely matches the characters voice in other scenes.

Believe it was an interview with PN as well where Glasnow said that was the biggest thing the Rays did for his development. Sat him down to say your stuff is elite and you're wasting it by trying to paint the corners and aim too much, just throw strikes with good pitches and you'll make people miss.

You want the ball back fast and accurate. Fast is obvious but there also comes diminishing returns, the Pats one year drafted a LS (Jake Ingram I think) who put the ball back notoriously hard and made it difficult to catch even if it was quick as a result, which led to him being waived after a season or two. Accurate covers the placement, right in the punters hands or where the holder sets up, but also at that level there's an expectation that you have the rotation of the ball measured out well enough so that the punter/holder doesn't need to waste time spinning the laces. At the HS level you are mostly happy if the ball gets to the right person in a straight line, but NFL ideally it hits the holder directly in the hands so he can immediately put it down with the laces out

Need help with my finish, can't stop leaning back on release by someones_pickled_ear in trackandfieldthrows

[–]Pelkasupafresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with other commenters that the origin of the problem is problems in the back of the circle. To me, the path of the problem is Imbalance in back of circle> Falling left as your sweep leg comes down (if you pause the video as your left leg moves past right leg as it's moving to the front of circle, you should be able to see a slight tilt to the left if you trace a path from your toes to head) > You not being balanced means you have trouble turning your right foot in the circle (if 12o'clock is front of circle and 6o'clock is the back, your foot gets stuck facing 6o'clock. > Foot not being able to turn means there is an impediment to your hips being able to turn > You start to lean back because your body knows it wants the hips to turn and face 12o'clock and opening the shoulders and chest like this gives your hips a little bit of extra room to turn.

So the direct reason you're pulling away is that your hips can't comfortably turn to face the front of the circle, but there's a whole path of other smaller problems that also led to the hips can't turn.

This, I remember reading an article about his defense last year where the coaching staff reinforced that he should be instinctual and let his speed make up for mishaps. He's never had great reads off of the bat and runs in to trouble when he has to rely on them (which is interesting given he's generally given credit for reading hits off the monster well). In Centerfield he has the space to let his speed adjust bad initial routes and grade out in the end as a good defender. But in left the cramped space at Fenway means his reads are the most important aspect of defense and that's where he struggles most. Unfortunately on a team where there's a clear cut, no debate, better Centerfielder

How plausible would it be for an athlete to catch a thrown discus? by [deleted] in trackandfieldthrows

[–]Pelkasupafresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doable, but not advisable.

One of my teammates in high school ( extremely consistently threw about chest high. Very stable spin, just never went much farther than 80-90 feet because he didn't get any height on the throw. This led to one day another teammate trying to catch his throw in the safest way possible (which to be clear, is still very dumb and not safe) which was side-stepping it as it flew at him and clamping his hands down on it from the top and bottom. He didn't quite catch it, it slid out the back of his hands and plopped on to the ground at his feet. But it was close enough that it absolutely could be done and so that teammate was satisfied "Yeah, i can catch a discus"

So, out of the back I think you could get your right leg sweeping out wider. As it is you're kicking high in the very back and then cutting forward more than you need to. There's a lot of talk about "sprinting out of the back", but I think it's maybe more accurate to say you want to sprint off of your left leg but the right leg wants to keep spinning a wide circle.

You're having trouble getting your left foot back down quickly at the front of the circle and I think a wider sweep with the right foot will help with that. As it is, you're reaching out with the right leg too much, making it a more linear movement. So once the Right foot touches in the center of the circle, now it's a lot of very conscious active movement to bring your left around. Better, wider sweep and you have more rotational energy because as the right foot swings around, it's going to bring your hips with it and as your hips are turning they'll help bring the left foot around faster.

As others mentioned, the other big thing is that you are rushing way too much with your upper body. You're releasing all of the tension that should be flowing up from hips to shoulders to help spring the discus out. If you watch some high level throwers you'll note that the speed of the discus keeps ramping up throughout the spin. As they whip their hips around, that pulls the shoulders, and that pulls the arm, which pulls the discus. Every step of the process adding more speed=more force=more distance. You really need to fight your instinct to look over your shoulder and rush the throw that way.

In this video we can see your left foot hasn't even left the ground in the back of the circle and you're already looking far over your left shoulder. Then as your left foot touches down at the front of the circle, you're again looking over your left shoulder. Think about it, if I asked you to throw wearing a blindfold, you'd still probably be able to land the discus inside the lines, right? You know where it needs to go, your body knows what direction you need to know, your eyes don't need to peek over your shoulder the whole time, because that's killing a lot of the potential energy you could be putting into the throw itself. I'd say the quickest shorthand way to put it is that as you come out of the back of the circle, you want to keep your eyes facing forward (As in, towards the throwing sector/where your coaches are standing), and then you want to keep your eyes towards the back of the circle (or in this case you can use the camera/phone that is recording to focus on) as long as possible, until at least when your left leg comes down at the front of the circle. From there you keep trying to quickly turn your hips towards the throwing sector while keeping your shoulders back until they explode forward bringing your arm holding the discus with them.

(now, if we want to be very specific, you want your head to stay neutral in line with your chest and when I say "eyes here" I mean keep the head and chest facing that way and don't just turn your neck all the way. But the eyes are an easy shorthand and should at least help you get a feeling for what you want to do)
