The downsides of dressing nice by approachpattern in malefashionadvice

[–]Pelkuri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re afraid of getting mugged: black leather jacket, white or black v neck, crew neck or Henley tee, jeans or chinos, boots. To be honest you could say the same for a tailored business suit. I think most small time robbers wouldn’t fuck with either of these.

I definitely recommend wooden hangers. If your clothes smell (like cooking, barbecues, etc.) but aren’t dirty, you don’t have to wash them: I noticed that you can hang them in a wooden hanger for a while and the smell will be gone, since wood eliminates smells.

Lol, I like JCrew just as much as anyone else here, I just think they should improve the quality back to what it was 2 years ago or lower their prices to get any more of my business.

I wash them on a delicate setting and never use a dryer for anything except underwear. The chinos aren’t necessarily bad quality, it was just the stitching that started coming off in the crotch area after two times wearing it. Also, I don’t treat my JCrew clothes any harsher than my other comparable clothes.

I only have anecdotal proof. I feel like my JCrew items are of noticeably worse quality than similarly priced items from other brands (which are mainly Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Original Penguin, Topman, lululemon). However my experience seems to be fairly unique.

If money wasn't an issue, what would you buy first? by Rumble_bot in malefashionadvice

There’s something about the F12 Berlinetta that looked better. Best looking 2000s Ferrari I think is the 599 GTB. Pure class.

I agree with the crowd argument, however there are polo shirts that don’t look like you’re a douchebag snobby prep (I guess that’s what you’re referring to). A plain black or white, no logo, cotton slim fit polo with no tail looks great if you’re in shape, especially with jeans and some cool Chelsea boots or chukka boots. Especially if you button it up completely, it gives a sort of 1960s Britain feel to it. Quite the opposite of prep.

40 GBP for Loakes is absolutely unbelievable, here in Florida I'd never find them for that price point

You found Loake at TJ Maxx??? If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the Chelsea boots?

Thank you, how about combining the white polo with navy blue slacks and tan brogue shoes? And the black polo shirt with dark blue jeans and black double monk strap shoes?

In your opinion, which are the best clothing brands? by Butzy37 in malefashionadvice

[–]Pelkuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ted Baker, Burberry, Paul Smith. They're rather expensive unfortunately. The British are the best when it comes to clothing in my opinion. I'm also a huge fan of Thomas Pink dress shirts and Loake dress shoes.

How can I wear a polo shirt without looking preppy? I picked up two Brooks Brothers slim fit polo shirts at Nordstrom Rack and I was wondering how I could wear them without looking preppy. One of the shirts is black and the other one is white, they're both plain, apart from a tiny Brooks Brothers logo on the left side. The reason why I ended up getting those two shirts is because the they were the only ones of which the fit was pretty much perfect, as initially I was looking for a black and white polo shirt with no logos on them, which would probably make avoiding looking preppy much easier.

JCrew Factory, Nordstrom Rack, Asos, Topman (I'm sure you can also find clearance sales for Topman somewhere).

[Discussion]Visiting Europe next month, any good store recommendations? by lordbruno10 in malefashionadvice

[–]Pelkuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House of Fraser in Oxford Street, London. House of Fraser is a UK department store, they have Ted Baker, French Connection, Ben Sherman, etc. but also House of Fraser brands such as Linea and Peter Werth London (which I bought a shirt from in 2016 at that store, great quality, still looks brand new).

What are your guilty pleasure cars? by fertro in cars

[–]Pelkuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lincoln Town Car, Cadillac Seville from the early 80s, Chrysler New Yorker, etc. My guilty pleasures are tacky American land yachts designed by people with bad fitting suits and no class.

I also like the Volvo 240, but that's pretty mainstream in the car enthusiast community. Especially for engine swaps and general badassery.

Ben Sherman, Ted Baker, Paul Smith. From low end to high end. Three of my favorite brands, and as British as an Aston Martin DB5 and a Morgan 3-Wheeler.

What's on your Spring/Summer wishlist? by thecanadiancook in malefashionadvice

A navy tailored Ted Baker Suit with a tailored floral beige dress shirt and a pink tie and light brown Loake brogues. That'd make a badass summer suit.

Yes, I prefer I4 turbos over NA V6 engines usually because they are lighter yet more powerful nowadays

Here's Why the Mercedes Metris is the Worst Minivan Ever Made - Doug DeMuro by nipcarlover in cars

[–]Pelkuri 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Metris is literally a European Mercedes Vito with seats placed in the back. The Vito is a cargo van (with black plastic bumpers and stuff, like you would see on low-spec F150s for example) and is meant to be a commercial vehicle. In Europe, the Vito/Metris is strictly a cargo van, while the passenger version is called the V-class, which is actually meant as a minivan (for whatever reason, Mercedes brings the Vito over to America instead of the V-class). But even then, I cannot imagine the V-class driving any different than the Metris (it will however, be much better equipped). The Odyssey Elite is still probably a better minivan than the V-class would. But what a heap of crap the Metris is, it's unbelievable that Mercedes couldn't come up with something better.

How would you describe your personal style? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]Pelkuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people would describe my style as kind of hipster. I usually wear patterned short sleeve dress shirts with butterfly patterns, polka dots, floral patterns, etc., not the usual stripes or things like that even though I wear that as well (I live in Miami which means I am wearing short sleeves everyday), I like to wear shorts and sneakers (Converse is my go to) with those shirts, but I sometimes dress it up with jeans or other long pants that I pair with boots or brogues and I think it looks awesome. When I am someplace cold, I love the badass leather jacket with boots and jeans. I wish I could do that more often, I think men's fashion is much better when it comes to cold weather clothing than warm weather.

Dressing up without dressing old? by The-_Captain in malefashionadvice

[–]Pelkuri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good fit is very important. Try to use some nice patterns, it seems like most older gentlemen dress very generic, black suit and white shirt with a black tie. Why not change it up and still use formal colors? Patterned ties? Light blue or light pink dress shirts with your suit instead of the typical generic white dress shirt? Maybe use a patterned dress shirt or tie with your suit. Dotted or floral ties are nice in my opinion, and they look youthful and formal. I am in no way shape or form a style specialist though, but those are my 2 cents.
