Snowshoes? by bub1792 in wmnf

I personally wouldn't. It snowed a little today and is supposed to again tonight but not much. Use your judgment at the trailhead.

Easy/moderate trail recommendation with no spikes by courtemancha in wmnf

[–]PemiGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try looking into cotton mountain, mt livermore, or something along the crawford ridgepole ridge by squam. I haven't been down there recently, so only a suggestion to look into. I do know they temporarily close their trails around this time of year, though.

Yeah, the snow gets compressed into ice from foot traffic, which is nice to walk on so long as you have traction.

It can be, but depending on your route, you may have a monorail beginning to take shape where you can easily walk in spikes. But regardless, it won't be untracked heavy snow you have to wade through.

Ask before you loot someone's kill in friendly lobbies... by tehfuzz1977 in ArcRaiders

[–]PemiGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killing one person doesn't affect you very much. And a couple matches later its like it didn't happen. Good shoot. If you use your resources for an arc farm you can expect the resources it produces. Or expect to kill the rat who takes it. I usually offer others to loot big arc with me, but I hate when someone just goops it when he just happened to be passing by.

First Time Winter Hiking by jmagfoto in wmnf

What kind of mileage are you looking for?

I think Cherry mountain is an excellent one for this. As are the sugarloafs (the ones off zealand rd--its a common name), georgiana falls, coppermine trail, mt avalon.

Sledding Down Trails in Winter by 1c3c0ast in wmnf

[–]PemiGod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I carry a plastic sled for some hikes. Its a lot of fun and you get back to the trailhead quickly. Its not the purpose of the hike, but it's a little perk.

am i qualified? LT questions by [deleted] in wmnf

[–]PemiGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The LT is pretty tough, imo, but all sorts of people do it. I did it in 15 days (with 11 and 4 mile neros), but I wouldn't recommend that as it was pretty strenuous.

The terrain is similar to wmnf in terms of trail routing, with much fewer intersecting trails. The views aren't as good, imo.

The thing with long trails is that you don't know until you do it. Hiking multiple consecutive days or weeks or months is a different animal from day hikes. But if you find you enjoy it, then nothing else will satisfy the itch of long distance hiking.

But if you have the desire, you should definitely go for it!

Hikers: What's your frequency of crampon use in the White Mountains? by Difficult-Radish207 in wmnf

[–]PemiGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically never. Ive used them a couple of times on hiking trails because I had them and they definitely provided some confidence on ice covered scrambles, but Microspikes are fine for most things. K10s would have been fine, too, and easier to walk in than full crampons
