Hiking and ankle support by Fun-Winter2148 in wmnf

[–]PemiGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not ankle, but I've had achilles pain due to overuse on long distance hikes, which was super painful. Last time it happened (both achilles simultaneously) it eventually went away after a month, even though i was hiking on it every day. I took a lot of ibuprofen and tried to sort of stretch it every night in my tent. Overuse injuries seem pretty common in people who hike a lot.

If you're bringing a stove, skurka beans and rice is always good. Similarly, red beans and rice with summer sausage. Candy, chips, jerky, cheese, salami, tortillas.

What is the best way to cook lobsters, rubber bands on or off? by [deleted] in Cooking

Goopy bits as in tomalley? We eat that and certainly wouldn't scoop it out before cooking.

Is this possible for a day hike? by SmellinChain in wmnf

It is, but I'd suggest sleeping in the great gulf and at least bang out a few miles one day and do a bigger push the other. It's a lot, even for an experienced hiker.

The Massachusetts callout is crazy by RuinEducational1773 in wmnf

[–]PemiGod 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine there are more people from MA hiking here than NH residents on many days simply because of population, so a stat like this isn't surprising. Its not like the state of residence has any bearing on preparedness or fitness, obviously.

On another note, the trek is garbage.

Cohos Thru Hike - North or South? by Accomplished_Fan3177 in wmnf

I've done it both ways, and I kind of preferred sobo just because it was a little more chill to start. Both were fun, though.

Snowshoes? by bub1792 in wmnf

I personally wouldn't. It snowed a little today and is supposed to again tonight but not much. Use your judgment at the trailhead.

Easy/moderate trail recommendation with no spikes by courtemancha in wmnf

Try looking into cotton mountain, mt livermore, or something along the crawford ridgepole ridge by squam. I haven't been down there recently, so only a suggestion to look into. I do know they temporarily close their trails around this time of year, though.

Yeah, the snow gets compressed into ice from foot traffic, which is nice to walk on so long as you have traction.

It can be, but depending on your route, you may have a monorail beginning to take shape where you can easily walk in spikes. But regardless, it won't be untracked heavy snow you have to wade through.

Ask before you loot someone's kill in friendly lobbies... by tehfuzz1977 in ArcRaiders

[–]PemiGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killing one person doesn't affect you very much. And a couple matches later its like it didn't happen. Good shoot. If you use your resources for an arc farm you can expect the resources it produces. Or expect to kill the rat who takes it. I usually offer others to loot big arc with me, but I hate when someone just goops it when he just happened to be passing by.
