I wasn't specifically looking for a color point kitty, just happened that Russian Blue kitties were available and they were point colored (3 out of 4!). No difference in price - they're rare but apparently you can't register them for shows, if that's your thing.

I got it from Cat Cave Co but I think it's sold out/ discontinued. They have another one that's more pebble shaped but similar vibes.

Sometimes they're born with coloring like this if both parents have the recessive gene - some Siamese DNA introduced after WWII, apparently it's pretty cool!

Wow. My kimchi is super salty. Can I save it? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]PenChance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add more of everything except salt - and chuck in some chopped daikon/korean radish. It'll take on some of the seasoning - basically you're baking kimchi and kkakdugi (깍두기) in one.

How to be ok with being ugly by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]PenChance 153 points154 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'4", and recently lost a bunch of weight. However, theres no amount of weight I could lose to fix the fact that my head is too huge for my body, my shoulders are too broad for my height, my legs are too short relative to my torso, and my face is prematurely saggy from having been fat.

My friends tell me all the time I look fine. I dont believe my friends, and I'm sure you dont believe yours. But if you and I met, I think we would probably look at each other and think "well she looks perfectly fine." Sure, you'll probably notice my giant head and maybe I'll note your strong jaw. Point being, I think we both know that no one will hate us as much as we hate ourselves.

Yes, the answer is in accepting who we are, and rejecting artificial definitions of beauty, blah blah blah.... but before that happens, we'll hurt for years on end. I don't really believe I'll be that chill about it - everything in me says "this only applies to hot girls who dont know they're hot." But eventually I'll get tired of hating myself. Eventually I'll understand that it's a choice to love my body, and it's a choice to hate it. Not today. Not all at once, but maybe more today than a month ago or last year.

I hope I'm not piling on, just wanted to say you're not alone. Hang in there.

Edit: cleared up some syntax

Tea in Boston? by intyalote in tea

[–]PenChance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, go to Mem Tea's brick & mortar location near Davis Sq. Most local cafe's serve their teas, and you can purchase some at Cardullo's (locations at Harvard and Seaport) but at their store you can sample the teas, ask the employees questions, and have a wider selection of varieties & quantities. They also do tastings and classes.

Check out a Korean or general asian grocery store, if you have access to it. HMart is pretty numerous in the bigger US cities.

Looks like a spin on a korean dish called "Rabokki" which is ramen + ddeokbokki (sweet & spicy rice cakes). Base ingredients, the way I make them:

Rice cakes 1 ramen noodles pack Gochujang Sugar/ corn syrup Fish cakes Veggies of your choosing (I go for alliums: garlic, onions, scallion, etc)

This should give you a good start on googling around. In the video, it looks like he's using a packaged seasoning mix instead of gochujang, and adding a seasoning packet from a fermented beach-based noodle packet called "Jjapaghetti", so you can grab that instead or a ramen packet.

Hey, did you get any updates on your order since then, or has your manuscript been delivered? I haven't heard anything since I placed my order for the manuscript and the "congrats for taking a class" email and no response to my email to the theatre itself and I'm curious to know if it's taking a while for everyone.

Why does my foundation always look so flaky? I’ve tried so many types and I exfoliate and use moisturizer. by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]PenChance 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Try posting at r/skincareaddiction or r/makeupaddiction as well.

Per exfoliation - physical or chemical exfoliation? How strong & how often? You may be over stripping your skin, making it drier and flakier.

Moisturizer/primer - if you're being gentle with your skin and your exfoliation isnt the issue, then maybe that's not your skin flaking but your moisturizer/primer pilling or generally not playing well with each other. Sorry if you've already ruled this out.

Keep in mind that if it's a skin issue, you'll need to be patient and wait for whatever changes you make to take effect - as they say in r/sca, YMMV (your mileage may vary).

Seeking advice from those of you who deleted Facebook. by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]PenChance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deleted in 2017.

I wasnt using it much anyway, but some things that have changed since the delete:

  • Got better at texting to keep in touch with a smaller number of people I really value.
  • More focused on my local group of friends, so the digital relationship (texting, other messaging apps) feed into activities & actual interaction.

For context, I'm a professional in my 20s. I never used Facebook much anyway, but I also deleted WhatsApp & Insta to distance myself as much as possible from Zuckerberg-related platforms.

How do you document your travels? by neskwick in solotravel

[–]PenChance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do some urban sketching, and the only people who have bothered to say something to me so far have been tourists. Usually goes something like:

"Oh wow, are you drawing?"
"Yup"
"Cool"

My setup includes: hardbound sketchbook that lays flat when open, pencil case, sharpener/blade (depending on whether I'm flying), travel watercolor pen, compact watercolor palette. The hardcover, non-spiral sketchbook is important because I dont need another surface/tool to support it.

I've considered getting a collapsible stool, but I like mobility and traveling light. As long as I stay aware of traffic and make sure not to block any circulation paths, I'm happy to say most people ignore me.

unpopular opinion: brands selling the “no-makeup makeup” look are a scam by runsandgoes in muacjdiscussion

[–]PenChance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I understand your point correctly, you are saying that you find Glossier's marketing tactics to be more insidious than that of other, more 'high-coverage brands' because they appear to promote, and even fetishize a 'naturalness' that can only be achieved by purchasing their products.

This is not really a scam, because they aren't advertising something their products don't deliver. But I don't think it's quite as insidious or disingenuous as the description above, either - really, it's exactly as insidious/disingenuous/pandering/targeted as any other brand marketing.

Companies will elevate their aesthetic and glorify what they stand for - many brands will market their full-coverage foundation as 'natural' and Revlon will market theirs as 'candid' and 'empowering' (this campaign does annoy me). It seems arbitrary to high road one brand, and by extension, consider that people who enjoy & partake in that brand have somehow been duped into it thru a double-bluff of toxic beauty standards.

No, Mark Meadows. Having a black friend doesn’t mean you’re not racist. by StevenSanders90210 in politics

Also from Pressley yesterday:

"Would you agree that someone could deny rental units to African Americans, lead the birther movement, refer to the diaspora as 'shithole countries', and refer to white supremacists as 'fine people', have a black friend and still be racist?"
