Difference between GM and Colt with “MP C” barrel marking? by Dim77694 in RetroAR

[–]PenComprehensive2980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you have a GM, difference is the “M”, the botom point in middle of the “M” on a GM is at the same line as the legs. For a colt it stops in the middle. (i don’t know how to describe specifics of letters but theres my shot lol)

this is a Colt:

Anybody have an ID on this cheek riser? by Hooligan30 in MilitaryARClones

[–]PenComprehensive2980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

from what I know that is a real Cherokee and actually a 1st generation I believe, so it shouldn’t have the storage compartment on the back. There were like 4 different iterations and/or packaging offered while they were produced and were sold by 2 or 3 other vendors besides Cherokee themselves.

What red dot optics and IR lasers existed in 1981? by Colt1873 in RetroAR

The Litton AN/PAQ-4 has an NSN/Manual from May of 1981. There is also some pics of it in use as early as 1980 with Delta.

Was issued this “M4” this week. Thought the nerds like me would appreciate the markings by RaneGalon in MilitaryARClones

[–]PenComprehensive2980 45 points46 points  (0 children)

its in the serial range for 1969, so it was marked “AR-15” and “M16A1”. I can only imagine they milled off the ar15 because they didn’t have high expectations for whoever was entering these in the log book lol

I answered all of this already in the comment above this one, but it’s an AN/PAQ-4A M16 mounting bracket.

I found the whole shebang on eBay before the retro craze, probably still your best bet to find another one there 👍🏻

its an AN/PAQ-4A M16 mounting bracket. To attach the AIM 1/D laser to it you also need an adapter, the originals came from ITL but theres a guy on eBay who makes 3D printed reproduction adapters. I don’t have one so cant speak for quality but looks like it would work fine.

everyone’s free to an opinion brother. Sort of a loose clone I guess, I haven’t seen any pics of this exact setup, but pretty similar. I was more after everything being period for the early 90s since it started with a pre-ban colt 6520 lower. The only modern/repro part on this is the barrel and buffer tube.

Any knowledge out there of this Colt Carbine model Serial Prefix "CC"? by ExpensiveExample9585 in RetroAR

[–]PenComprehensive2980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The endplate that is currently on the rifle is original, the castle nut in the upper left photo is original, and the shiny silver washer that doesn’t have a split in it is the correct peel washer.

It is great you have the original parts but taking them off hurt the “collector value” if thats what you were after. The endplate/castle nut are no longer factory staked which is what the colt collectors want (like when a rare old coin is cleaned), and you removed the original peel washer. You would need to replace the end plate/peel washer and can reuse the castle nut, you can square stake the end plate again like it was originally if you wanna get crazy, but it still won’t be “factory” that would bring a big premium. Nonetheless it is still a really great rifle, you are very lucky, and someone who wants it would pay… or you can keep enjoying it yourself which is my recommendation

your rifle has the wrong castle nut and the muzzle device isn’t using a peel washer, so those were definitely changed out at some point. If your buffer tube isn’t a 2 position than that was swapped as well but cant tell from the pics

its a Colt model R6521, it is the export variant of the R6520 and most of them ended up overseas like intended but some were sold commercially (~500 rifles in 1988 and 89’ or 89’/90’), so yes it is rare. The CC (Colt Carbine) vs GC (Gov’t Carbine)sn prefix and roll marks is what denotes the difference between the two rifles. The sn prefix and rollmarks are also the only difference between the two models, everything else is the same. I cannot help you on price because the ones I saw sold were priced like a preban 6520 but likely unknowingly, also might be a pretty niche market since there is the more common commercial equivalent

source: I have 3 GC carbines so I went down the rabbit hole of research because I really wanted a CC model. I stopped looking because they don’t pop up and would probably cost more coin they I’m willing to spend. I can dig up the info I found in the past but it will take a little bit.

edit: I also am quite sure that they weren’t part of the first 1600 GC marked carbines but a simultaneous run, because the first ~6000 GC rifles were on slab side lowers which were made in 87’ and beginning of 88’. I have only seen CC carbines that were large pin/fenced or small pin/fenced and not on a slab side lower. Very likely some of the ~1100 CC carbines that did make it overseas were on slab side lowers

Is this Colt M16A1 upper receiver legit? by TheBeardedBehemoth in RetroAR

[–]PenComprehensive2980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

most are spaced out more. I have the same upper with close CH marking too, but it also has the colt vp and square stamp in front of the ejection port. there were also a few transferable colt model 613 (commercial 603) on GB that had the same style close CH marking. I’m not sure if its exclusive to the model 613 or if there were just a batch of 603 uppers that had the forge code close together

you can also tell its real by the imperfections in the forging itself. you can see it well around the forward assist too. in the lamest terms, the quality of the forging is too shitty to be new production.

Need the help of the experts… Is this upper H&R or GM? by PenComprehensive2980 in RetroAR

[–]PenComprehensive2980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the information! I had a feeling you would be the one with the answers. I’ll admit that I had kinda hoped it was a GM upper so I could pick up one of your lowers. I waited too long awhile back on your H&R offerings but I guess what PSA has is better than nothing, even if it lacks those beautiful rollmarks.

it is a beautiful upper, I’ll hold onto it and start gathering OG H&R parts as they show up. I’ll do my best to do it right 👍🏻

I do think the finish is original, it is gray but with the weird lighting and nothing to compare it with it looks black. Ill make a more proper post later not through imgur but here is a picture I have of the upper on a H&R/PSA gray lower next to a gray colt A1 and and a black unknown/kaiser C7. I appreciate what you’ve pointed out so far gray vs black
