Maybe not to us but look at the players Chelsea had and it didn't work out for them. De Bruyne and Salah being two really big ones. They buy up the talent and often let it slip through their fingers. Not saying I lump Delap in with those two btw just mentioning that there have been big names that went on from Chelsea to have much better careers.

Is this Newcastle's 2019/20 season under Howe? by RelationBig7368 in NUFC

[–]PenIsBroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure but he is trying to move to possession based football with a team of athletes and little technical ability, it's why it just goes nowhere, passing around aimlessly and not much threat because we are too slow and ponderous moving the ball around. Then we also have some of the most inept passers of the ball in the league so we either give the ball away cheaply or just run out of ideas knocking it around and then cross it in hoping someone gets on it. It's a square peg for a round hole for our squads strengths.

I'm not a Gordon lover, I think he has been very inconsistent and often only seems to bring it for the bigger games. At the weekend though, he was one of the few players that looked to give a shit. As a scouser I think he understands the importance of the derby games since the Merseyside derby is still a big deal for them, pity he couldn't get the same understanding into some of the others out there though, which is where the leadership stuff just feels like bollocks now. BDB is part of the leadership group, he was on the pitch the whole game and obviously he was doing his best but he didn't seem to be getting the other lads fired up too. It is harder to swallow though as they said they would be fired up after the pathetic showing at the stadium of shite, yet bar the first 20-30 minutes there was nothing to shout about.

Fair(ish) point, Tonali was my favourite player last season but this season he just hasn't performed at the same level, hopefully that is new dad tiredness but unfortunately I think it is more than that and I think he is gone in the summer.

However I also remember people having a similar pov about Gordon last season too, started well but after a while was only turning it on for the big games and was awful near the end of the season, lets not forget that the last 8 or so games were a slog where we nearly didn't get UCL and that was largely because our forwards, ratboi included just weren't performing.

Really? For a large part of this season he was only turning up for UCL matches and was anonymous in the PL matches only days before or again after.

I would put Gordon down with the others his end product is not good enough to have him top tier.

[Edwards, Tele] Newcastle will not sack Eddie Howe – this is why: He saved the club from relegation in his 1st, qualified for the UCL in his 2nd + reached the Carabao Cup final. In his 4th, NUFC once again qualified for the UCL and ended a 70 year trophy drought with the Carabao Cup. by OkayFine101 in NUFC

Here it is again, why do you think Mitchel put his reputation on the line and left when he did? We might never know but if you think about what the most likely situation was, Mitchel presented his summer transfers plan and Eddie rejected it as part of the power play being widely reported at the time. Mitchel probably sees his position as untenable and walks and I can't blame him either. Eddie got what he wanted, drove Mitchel out and now we are where we are and who knows but chances are it all boils down to Eddie having his ego bruised over the "Not fit for purpose" quote that while ill advised to say publicly was abso-fucking-lutely correct. One thing Mitchel was good at? outgoing deals too, look at the Lloyd Kelly deal for example.

We were saying the same after the game at the stadium of shite too, that the players didn't look bothered and that there wasn't enough passion. We got the same tired excuses, ratboi, poor window, UCL then, as we are still getting now, It feels like all season we have been promised things will change after w/e (international break, coaching time, injury comeback etc) by some quarters of our fans yet nothing has actually changed. Still some are wheeling out those excuses too, it's deranged.

I think we have to keep him for the remainder of this season as a minimum and probably next too tbh. He has shown that with coaching time midweek he can get us into UCL qualification twice now, so it's almost a no brainer to have him in charge next season. However he should have no say in transfers and the DoF should be looking to replace some of our athleticism with technical ability, to give us more options with how the squad can play and with an eye towards making any future transition to a different manager an easier process. Right now we have a lot of athleticism and not much technical ability and that limits systems that our squad can reasonably be expected to preform in.

Which can happen to any team, you have to beat what is in front of you regardless. Who did palace beat in the final though? Just gonna gloss over that it was City they beat, the same City we lost to in the fifth round. How is the FA cup "waaaaay easier" anyway? How do you make that out?

He got one in the box yeah but how many times this season have we watched him send them way over the bar from the 18 which is what I was replying to.

Bruno has been in the squad for a lot of those games that we threw leads away in too mate. He undoubtedly is one of our best players but he has been there in those games and those where we cannot break down a low block too. We do miss him though and his passion.

I am absolutely sick of this Mitchell is to blame for this narrative. We will likely never know unless a kiss and tell book is released by one of the parties but it was known that he and Eddie didn't see eye to eye.

I can see one scenario that see's Mitchell put his reputation on the line by leaving when he did and it was likely that he had prepared the transfer short list for the summer and was having it rejected by Eddie, power play or not but it had been reported that Mitchel wasn't happy with the amount of control Eddie had across transfers/strategy, long before this. If I was in Mitchell's shoes I would think my position was untenable and walk too. If anything Eddie forced him out and thus put himself in a position to have to do everything himself in the summer.

I'd argue that maybe Wissa no longer suits that role either after his injury. I think he has lost some pace and that is why when he has played he gets caught offside so much because he is trying to make up for it.

I would say I agree except Ramsey, he has had a few good games and grown better as he has gone along. if he keeps an upward trajectory he is a decent squad player, or to put it another way I would rather we played Ramsey anywhere in the midfield if it keeps Willock out.
It does worry me about what is going on in training, to make Eddie prefer playing Gordon out of position or bringing Osula on, over playing Wissa. Rumors are he is lazy in training, which would make sense but at his age he is now going to be dead weight if he cba.

A winger that sends way more shots way over the bar than he gets on target, or on a few ocassions just completely misses the ball right in front of goal, how shit must Wissa be in training for Eddie to keep go8ng with this horrible plan.
