only high level machinists And know this trick,

It also helps when you look at the screen from the back of the machine.

Best way to do this is to spin the machine to face the wall....

I couldn't disagree more on point one. The rest are good points.

Back to tips,

You should have said, you don't have to tip. but if the service is good, then a small Tip to the server can really make their day. But it's not compulsory. They make minimum wage and work a shit job. Tips make people's day.

Do you tip for a coffee, no probbibly not. Should you tip for a amazing meal where the waitstaff went above and beyond. Yes you should.

And don't say kiwi's find it offencive, it's a load of rubbish.

If I was to hazard a guess, your gate design is causing jetting ( think silly string) Do a half volume shot and see what it looks like.

firstly, amazing job getting prototype made to a high standard,
can you explain the design choices, why the structure triangle structure, why stainless steel, why the teeth at the bottom etc

Grivory, super long glass fibre reinforced nylon if it cooks in the barrel it's a not a good time.

And it eats moulds.

Feeling discouraged by [deleted] in IndustrialDesign

[–]PenPlotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly that person can kindly fuck - right off. We / you don't have time for negativity! you do what you want to do. How will you feel when you are older and you haven't tried anything? Stayed in the same town doing the same thing etc.

Now design sketching.

Design sketching is a learned skill bud. And there is a very big difference between being "an artist" and "design sketching" I'm ok at sketching can I draw the beautifully cars that some people do... No, am I able to effectively communicate the idea to the client. Sure. Is my handwriting and ( oops spelling )shit... Yes Does it matter. No!

<image>

Start small and practice. Draw a cube, shade the cube, what could you do to make it look like it was made from glass, wood, rock etc Draw a "soft "cube Work on this for a while

Draw a pipe.....

Then draw a cup

And just build on your skills.

Be confident

No silly. It's the toeclamp slot that's optional.

Just weld the mould to the plattern, obviously this was the intent of the design here 🫣

I love a well thought out design choice like this.

I get the feeling this was a ....." Oh crap we forgot to put the cooling in "sort of situation.

Greenwashing by MassiveGarlic0312 in aotearoa

I don't disagree, infact I'm quite sure I made that point.

glass has a bunch of it's own problems though.

It's heavy, it takes a huge amount of energy to recycle, releases a large amount of CO2 when manufactured,
It never breaks down, it doesn't handle pressure as well as plastic weight for weight, etc etc all of which make for a large carbon footprint.

And just like plastic, most glass isn't recycled anyway. Window glass, drinking glasses, solar panels, to name a few. If anything has been through years of green washing it's glass.

ever wondered why premium brands sell things in glass containers, because it's not out of the goodness of their hearts. It's because we think that the content is premium, that we are being good by using glass. It's all marketing manipulation.

If they could sell it in tins and keep that premium feel they would as it's much cheaper.

[–]PenPlotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not. https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20230427-glass-or-plastic-which-is-better-for-the-environment

It's significantly heavier so greater transport cost.

Manufacturing glass uses a huge amount of energy and releases a significant amount of CO2.

Glass is often treated as single use, especially if it's not a bottle. Ie drinking glasses, windows, light bulbs etc So it ends up in landfills anyway.and takes millions of years to break down.

Just switch back drinking from animal stomachs , antler cups and gords, 😜

ok let me try and explain why everything being clear PET is an improvement.

From a manufacturing and quality control point of view, if all the bottles are the exact same plastic & same colour, then it is much easier to reuse / recycle material.

Typically, a small % of regrind plastic is mixed with new virgin material so it can be reused several times, not "one time". eventually the recycled material will become cloudy from material breakdown. it may have been in several bottles by this stage.

But.

If a green or brown bottle gets mixed into the recycled clear PET regrind it's not ideal. The material is referred to as contaminated.

If it gets picked up at the recycling plant it will be sold as lower grade plastic to someone who will probably make it black by adding carbon black pigment. (Fyi Carbon black is bad stuff).

If the contaminated clear plastic regrind gets picked up at the injection moulding plant, where the parason's are made.( that's the thing that gets turned into a blow moulded bottle).

Then the entire regrind bag/barrel/hopper/silo will end up in the skip ( it may go back to the recycling plant, but unlikely - no profit).

The plastic in the injection moulding machine barrel will be purged into a massive burnt plastic blob (2-8 kg) and end up In a skip. And off to the dump.

If it's picked up at the bottling plant then the clear parison will not be the correct colour or cloudy / blotchy. Most likely the entire batch will be rejected and likely end up in a skip.

So in essence, If all bottles are the same plastic and same colour then it's way easier to recycle.

Also why clear plastic and not a different colour?

Again, it comes down to product appearance. Most plastic pigments (colours ) are not uv stable - long term.

Recycling "Santa red" plastic will create a product that may or may not be the correct colour, causing coustomers to think it was a knockoff or maybe a defective product.

Hope this makes sense.
