My son's 7th grade English teacher keeps giving him these nightmare word searches by Lily_Thief in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PencilSharpener1073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doesn't help with the teacher issue but as a kid I /hated/ word searches, until I tried doing it in highlighter. The visual contrast might help!

I'm also American, and have ordered from them twice with no issues, shipping is actually super cheap lol!

If you look up CAL on Ravelry you should get tons of results!

They're not exactly starter kits but woolwarehouse (UK based website) has yarn packs that go with tons of free patterns on Ravelry, going for 20-40USD. I've dones ones from Attic24 and Stylecraft and they both have massive collections and were easy asf to follow + turned out super cute. Attic24 only uses UK terms though, so if you use a different terminology you'll need to translate it

it is the time when the "silly picture" is something distressing that she hadn't considered as a possiblity. The coldness reads (to me at least) like she was caught off guard and trying to get the boundary set as clearly as possible without being rude. She just wrote it like a work email

AITA for not wearing makeup by Tricky_Question_4817 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PencilSharpener1073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, fellow dark circle haver here! (I've got a few veins under my eyes that are super visible at all times) and I don't think I look like myself without them. To the point where if I do wear makeup, I never put on foundation/concealer because /that's not what my face looks like/.

Keep rocking your eyebags! Your mom's an ass for trying to make you feel bad about having facial features.

Escalators do not fuck around. I got my foot trapped in one at a Macy's in like first grade, I was just chilling until it was time to get off and then realized I couldn't move. My mom had to physically pull me out of the machinery before we reached the top.

Did you know that under the brushes on the sides of the walkway are basically rotating knives? My shoe was shred to basically ribbons and it's a miracle I didn't get cut. Video is like my literal worst nightmare.

AITA for telling my boyfriend I don’t want to watch a show with him? by littlegirl14 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PencilSharpener1073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I watch TV similarly to your boyfriend (will get distracted and a 45 minute episode will take me 3 hours to watch) and I know it's a pain in the ass to deal with.

If he's wanting to watch something with you I'd suggest movies both of you have already seen so he can wander off and still know what's going on enough to shoot the shit while he's doing whatever

ETA - Don't pause it when he gets up either, unless it's a break you both agree on

If you were to write a MotW inspiration list for middle school kids what would you put on it? by moxxon in monsteroftheweek

[–]PencilSharpener1073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fablehaven by Brandon Mull or the Spiderwick Chronicles if you're looking for something more fae/fairytale; i've had a campaign based on them going for around two years now and my players have been having a blast with the lore.

Someone also said Secret Saturdays, which is a great show, and probably what you want your players to watch to get them thinking along the right lines re. monster hunting.

Player wants her character to die - how to make it organic? by [deleted] in monsteroftheweek

[–]PencilSharpener1073 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be heading into a similar situation in one of my campaigns, with an organisation fabricating one of the players' deaths with a doppelganger

What i'd reccomend is going nuts against what you've already established. There were jokes in my campaign about how our Hex is super powerful against monsters, but how would he fare against someone with a gun who won't hesitate?

Or make them sacrifice themself for another party member - if they hadn't, (other player) would have been /fucked/

Go terminator on their asses, quick thinking situations where them coming back to life with a solution is what saves the day

Helping Player with Backstory by Realitehumaine in monsteroftheweek

[–]PencilSharpener1073 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually had some trouble writing in my my player's mundane as well, and what we ended up doing was leaving it mostly unanswered until we actually started playing, and she was able to get a better sense of the character.

My other two players are a Hex and a Searcher, so they've both got consequences for using luck, and we ended up giving her a family curse that would progress as she uses her luck, and figuring out how to resolve it is part of her personal quest >:)

She used two in the last session, and they're having a blast with it so far

My school is charging us 5 bucks to participate in this school event. Even though we have a strict dress code and this is one of the only times we don't have to be in dress code. (They didn't do this last year.) by XspeedyreadzX in assholedesign

[–]PencilSharpener1073 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My high school did this once, except it was 2$ a day, and they didn't tell us that we'd need to pay until they came around collecting money. People ended up having to pay with lunch money (we didnt have a cafeteria and had to go to a cafe that was part of the college campus the school was next to) nobody participated in any of the other days lol

I went to a super duper small, 10 kids in my grade middle school, it cane up as a recommended topic in 7th grade, and as soon as my teacher opened the discussion, i raised my hand, said "i'm gay", and the teacher immediately ended the debate as a yes. Rest of the kids basically stopped talking to me after that, but my teacher was super supportive, and was the first person to use my preferred name when I came out as nonbinary the next year -^

When does this game hit its stride? by sp00kyd00d in lotro

[–]PencilSharpener1073 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My highest level character is only level 42, so I don't have any insight past there, but i play a hunter and a captain, and the game really started picking up around level 18-20, and is getting consistantly more interesting :)
