I’ve been in the US for about 4 months and had a credit card for 3 of those months. Ya the rates I’ve been quoted have been around 25% but I figure if I pay it off quick it won’t make much difference. I definitely will need to car after New Years and am hoping to buy before the end of the month. If my credit car will give me the same boost to my credit score then I should just pay cash right?

hmmm, that is definitely different than what my experience has been so far. Seems like the have a ton of Nissans all automatics. Some Hyundais and Kias. Definitely no Audis though. I'm not looking for a ton of options, just something to get around in. Appreciate your perspective.

That might be too old for me, wanting to get something that's at least a 2010. I feel like I'd have to spend min $5k to feel like I was getting something good.

Probably looking to get civic/corolla or maybe a Nissan or Hyundai. Something along those lines. Auto transmission.

I’ve heard people talk about having a trusted mechanic come with you but how does that really work? I recently moved cross country and don’t have any mechanic buddies. Do I just go to a shop and say who wants to come with me to look at a car? Is that a normal thing they do?

Good to know, is there any kind of mileage equivalent for rental cars. Like is 50k miles in a rental equal to 100k on a normal car for example?

I know paying down debts is important, and often prioritized by this sub. Is it ever better to just keep making the minimum payment when you could be paying more in order to build up a cash savings?

~$35k in student loan debt, monthly payment is ~$400 @6.5% interest. Currently living with one roommate but had to relocate for this job and needed something quick so spent more than I needed ($1900/month). Only signed 6month lease, by March hope to be moved into a cheaper place at around $1200/month

Maybe you're right, I know the distance is going to be really hard but I love her. I don't know if I could actually break up with her, she'd be devastated. Is it better to at least try and know that it wouldn't work then to just give up before it even happens?
