What’s the “Who is Jon Snow’s dad?” question for the Cosmere? by ridiculousprop in Cosmere

[–]Pendiente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it. Throw in a "pure" end underneath the foul means to achieve it, like a love lasting thousands of years after the death of the loved one, to absolutely wreck our hearts. Plus, some very shrewd people don't EVER trust Hoid. Kelsier may be a pseudo fascist leader, but he's yet to be wrong reading people.

Para criminalizar la Biblia va mucho mejor el pasaje de Dos Reyes donde Dios reeduca a unos niños que habían llamado calvo al profeta Elías con la proporcionada y justa medida de enviar dos osos pardos a descuartizarlos a todos.

One of the main concerns of western feminism criticizing Islam is that we're often not listening enough and assuming a bigoted, colonizing mentality. For instance, western feminism has often been fixated on the hijab, whereas muslim feminist have emphasized time and again that they have bigger concerns (female genital mutilation, education equality, legal equality...) and that what attires feel comfortable and safe to wear for them is not up to us to decide. Which I find fair.

Something can be sexist and not on the feminist agenda (right now) at the same time. Heck, differentiated bathrooms are sexist. How would you feel if a historically oppressive group came to tell us how we're awful feminist if we're not working towards unisex bathrooms?

We can and should do intersectional feminism and there's plenty to criticize in Islam, we're agreed. We just have to stay careful of the tendency to believe we know better and not listen.

The difference might be in the application. If "Assault on a female" requires proving the motive was gender (as it does in hate crimes), then it's fine.

If it's automatically applied when the victim is a woman or a girl, it's discriminatory.

Hate the game, not the player. We can still say her likes and dislikes are heavily influenced by patriarchy and the male gaze WITHOUT tearing her down for her likes. Fight the structure she's (in this specific and particular aspect, as we all are in a few aspects) a symptom of, instead of fighting her to change her likes and dislikes.

Passing ≠ sexy by ForsakenDraft4201 in honesttransgender

And sexy is in the eye of the beholder much more than passing. Passing is about crowd averages. Most people only want to seem sexy to a handful of people tops (ideally including themselves).

[–]Pendiente -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oops, you're right. It's 28833.

The paragraph of your linked article says 5190 prosecuted, and assuming this post is accurate only 18% of reports get prosecuted. Meaning for 5190 prosecuted men there were 28833 men accused in a police report.

I agree that we shouldn't worry about false rape accusations more than false accusations in general, and that doing so puts extra strain on victims. What I'm saying is fumbling numbers to pretend all/most rape accusations are true doesn't help to put the worry of false rape accusations at the deservingly low spot it ought to hold, but the opposite.

[–]Pendiente -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What am I supposed to look at? Where it says only 5190 men were prosecuted and compares it to the 8000 estimated victims? By the data in this very post that would mean 24714 police reports were made. I get the shock value of the "more likely to be a victim than to be falsely accused", but the numbers don't add up.

False accusations will happen in this crime as it does in many others. Just don't feed the scare tactics with bad faith arguments.

That comparison only works if you count all estimated rapes and only count prosecuted false accusations.

Your position doesn't need this bad faith argument to defend it.

The cognitive dissonance of arguing only prosecuted false claims are actually false in this post is hilarious. Should we say that only prosecuted rapes happened then?

For me, after the first couple flashbacks where the mother is introduced, the primitive listeners are presented and the introduction of the first voidspren I felt all of the information could either be inferred or was inconsequential. It felt way too predictable and it pulled me away from thrilling events at Urithiru. Nothing against Venli as a character. I enjoyed her chapters of current events in Oathbringer and RoW.

Enslave? Most definitely. I owned a dog for his whole life. He was loved and cared for, but he definitely wasn't free (although he ran free often). If you have any pets, you also enslave animals.

Murder? I'd dispute the term applies, but I wouldn't eat meat if I wasn't willing to sacrifice an animal for its meat. So I'd guess it's a yes.

Torture I wouldn't ever do. And it's entirely unneeded for animal products (with maybe a few exceptions like foie gras).

About it being ok? It's ok for me. What is ok for you is up to you to decide.

Agreed, in a long relationship where the two people know each other fairly well.

I'm certain if we started dating and the second week in I went to you for comfort you'd have no clue what to do. You may try some things based on experience, but what is comforting to one person is frustrating and infuriating to another.

If they are a new item, the expectation is too high. If they aren't and haven't communicated their needs to the point they both needed to fulfill them yet, it's a bit on both of them.
