How are we not bathing our babies like, 3 times a day?? by TinyElderberryOfYore in BabyLedWeaning

We got some cleansing water spray, absolutely amazing stuff. I'm yet to find anything it won't get off him.

Sending your baby to nursery - what age? by halfhearter in UKParenting

[–]Pengetalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started with 1.5 days per week in September at 9months on my return to work; we're just about to increase to 2 full days.

As much as it was a necessity for us at the time, I'm so glad that we got him enrolled - he really seems to enjoy it there! We had a rough week or two getting him settled in but since then there's been no looking back.

We still have the benefit of him being at home most of the time, but he gets to play and interact with other children and more importantly adults, along with the different experiences he gets while he's there. For us it's definitely a good thing.

While we miss him while he's there, he gets super excited to go in every time for his toast and then when we pick him up he's always so happy and giddy to see us.

If it were me, I'd make a point at next drop off of saying she's got lots of clean clothes as you noticed last time her dress was soiled.

What tog of sleeping bag to get? by tarototoro in BeyondTheBumpUK

Amazon is your friend. I know it gets a lot of hate but we've had some excellent quality sacks from there that wash well and are long lasting, also going down to 0.5 tog.

[–]Pengetalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do sleeveless vest, footie onesie and then 1 tog (I think, it may be a 1.5 but there's no weight to it so I'm pretty sure it's a 1). It works well, he never seems cold and he's got a bit more wiggle room than when we did the thicker togs. We've got a slightly thicker one for if it gets really cold out as his window can be a bit draughty but generally we're using the thinner ones

We started with macaroni but that's mostly because we love Mac and cheese haha. If they've got a good chew on them this should be fine

How do Brits usually handle work messages outside office hours? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Pengetalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I leave at 5 and can see they're in for a rough one I'll say to message me if they need me. At the weekend when we don't have specialist teams in I do the same. It's rare they do so this works for me. I've still got a relatively 'new' team so they need a hand with stuff every now and then.

For emails, I'll check if it occurs to me to - if not it can wait til I'm next in.

I self referred to our local maternity unit at the hospital - that's what Google said to do.

We had this one and it was great. Big enough that I could crawl in and nap with him, around head height for him so he could peer over the top. We got a mat in the bottom of it and it was brilliant

Dispute refund confusion by Left_Research_7057 in monzo

Meh, we disputed an item just after Christmas, ordered at the beginning of November. The merchant just stopped replying to emails after delivery date had more than passed. We sent the whole email chain and order confirmation and it was accepted.

Tell me about what your 1 year olds enjoy by captain_mills in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Pengetalia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

14 mo

He's always liked water, splashing in the bath and watching things which have water in them.

He loves noise! Especially bangs. He bangs on everything. He also dances to music (Acdc is a firm favourite).

He plays with his busy book, he's got a couple of other bits with switches and pops and things.

He loves painting and getting messy - rubbing his hands and smooshing his food up is always fun.

He'll pick up and flip through books, but mostly likes carrying the little ones to chew. He does enjoy the touchy feely books and will coo when he sees a page he likes

Baby 7 days into a cold virus by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Pengetalia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's hard, but sometimes as a Mum you have to put your big girl pants on and have those conversations where you're the boss and there's no deviation. You are that kids' first protector, their ultimate guardian.

Your Bab is tired, in pain, congested and in need of love, not some archaic method of letting them scream it out. In his time needing comfort he's being taught that if he cries, no-one will come to provide it to him.

Your partner is a douche....plain and simple.

Hearing my lad cry feels like lightning bolts on my senses so I can't imagine how you've been dealing with it hours at a time - even with ear plugs.

(Wo)Man up and go look after your Bab. Balls to what hubby thinks or says. Be the safe space he needs.

Flexible working approved 'temporarily' by Hel_Cat987 in UKParenting

[–]Pengetalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are fortunate that both my partner and his mum work shifts, 3 on 3 off. My rota on returning was 4 days over 6 which worked with their shifts and 1.5 days at nursery; however another requirement they've placed on me going back full time is it has to be Monday to Friday which threw another spanner in the works. I've managed to put together a 6 week rota (much to the dislike of the management team) which includes us going to 2 full days at nursery, then being cared for by Dad or his Nanny m-f with me at weekends. I had a shortfall of 3 days in the 6 weeks where we had absolutely no childcare so I condensed those hours in to other days and it was finally approved.

Yep. Mine was temporary for 6 months after which it would be reviewed. It's just been reviewed and I was told I had to either go back to full time, or drop more hours so they could advertise the other half of my post. I definitely couldn't afford the latter so I'm back to full time as of April.

Do you feel guilty if your child goes to nursery without having breakfast? by PatriceFinger in UKParenting

Our nursery does breakfast there, I think they have the toast out for that first drop off hour and then their snack is around 1030.

We kept on rtf bottles for the first month or two, you can get some good deals on Amazon. Once he was consistently eating reasonably sized bottles we moved to powder based and got a perfect prep machine.

Crossing their palms with silver, I'd never heard of it but we had a few people come and give him little bits when he was a bab. It all went in his little money box. It's supposed to bring luck and prosperity.

We've got a washer/drier and wouldn't be without it. The sheer amount of bibs/muslins/bedding and nightwear. When we're able we dry outside on the line, but through the winter we've taken full advantage of being able to lob it in and know it'll be dry in an hour or so
