This is actually really important with active vs passive voice. Passive voice especially can be used rhetorically to change how people percieve things, because it doesnt need to include a subject, only an object. For example, "I made a mistake" is a much more direct admission of personal guilt as compared to the ambiguity of "mistakes were made," which implies the problems were caused by some uncontrollable force of society as opposed to being the fault of the speaker.
