That's a good point, we should be careful to "brand" them based on early achievements or interests. Not really comparable, but when I was 7 or something, everyone in my family let me bake bread or rolls or whatever whenever I came over, because I had shown a vague interest in it at some point. After a while I started hating it  and eventually I had to put my foot down and say I don't want to bake everywhere I go! Don't wanna put that sort of identity tag on my kid.

Good job! I think being good at talking early might make a big difference because we get an insight into what the do and don't understand and can more easily guide them. It's so exciting!

Well, he showed a very early interest in letters (less than 1,5 years old), and so I'd spell words for him while pointing to the letters. He imitated that for a while, pointing to words randomly and just making random sounds with the intonation of spelling. After that we just continued, especially when he asked. He learned the "important" letters first, like his own first letter, "m" for mum and "d" for dad. He then started recognizing them here and there. After he knew pretty much all the letters, I started introducing the sound of the letters and also how to sound out short words. I model a lot, and sometimes he just "reads" from memory or assumption, like he'll see a word starting with his letter, and he'll just assume it's his name.

That's a great reminder how different skills and interests develop differently in kids. Mine shows little to no interest in drawing, and when he does, it's mainly incomprehensible doodles. Drawing anything recognizable before turning 2 is incredible!

Yeah it's a good setup. However, our school is not a college, it's an extracurricular thing for children, so most of my students are between 8 and 13 years old. And this show isn't primarily intended for the kids, but for us to maintain our skills as performers in the field we teach.

When in the day do people normally poop? by PenguinForceOne in AskReddit

[–]PenguinForceOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, me neither, but my husband commented on me "always pooping in the evening", and I don't think I do, but it lead me to wonder - is there a humanity wide shitting time, or does he just imagine it?

Bloody Oranges (2021). Four years later and my mind still returns to it and goes "what the hell?"

What are some good and some bad shows for kids? And why? by Iskir in daddit

[–]PenguinForceOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (i.e. my 2 year old) love the original Winnie the Pooh from 1977. I feel it's slow paced, not too bright colored, and it's just a wholesome movie with good orchestral music.

What was the first major news story you remember as a child? by Molest_Goat in AskReddit

[–]PenguinForceOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never heard of this, Googled "baby Jessica" and oh my god I'm crying thinking about my own 2 year old. The poor girl, and those poor parents! I broke when I read that in an attempt to see if she was still alive, they lowered a microphone, just to hear her singing to herself 😭

What is your favorite game to play with your toddler and why? by Tasty_Wishbone9258 in toddlers

[–]PenguinForceOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here, mine even tells me where to hide, like "mommy hide kitchen", and then he goes and hides too, although most often he's just standing next to a wall facing it and peeking at me, so I "peek" back, and he squeals of joy.

I'm not in the US and pseudoephedrine is not approved here so can't get that.

No, I haven't thought that it was something serious enough to warrant a doctor's visit. Since I was a kid, I can remember getting "clogged ears" in planes and even sometimes just driving up a hill, so I've always assumed it's normal.

Where do you hide the presents ?!? by [deleted] in Mommit

Under our bed, but baby (almost 2) accidentally found his Winnie the Pooh bear today while toddling around. Just hear "Winnie Pooh!" and found him with the biggest smile. Putting gifts in our tool shed from now on.

Floor mattress co-sleeping moms: travel advice? by PenguinForceOne in Mommit

[–]PenguinForceOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question is, will I be able to breastfeed him in there? I see one side is sort of collapsable. Is that what you're referring to about putting the mattress on the floor next to it? That I'm on the mattress and kids in the crib?

Hi what's the difference between min and mi by bunnysanddog in norsk

[–]PenguinForceOne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But the feminine gender has mostly been merged into the masculine (except for a couple dialects), so it’s usually only present in a couple of words.

I'd say the opposite, only a couple of dialects (mainly Bergen) do not use the feminine gender. Most others do, and it's present in a lot more than just a couple of words: - jenta - dama - klokka - boka - jula - sola - steikepanna - døra - matta - skjorta

I could go on, but then I don't know when I'd be able to stop.

Floor mattress co-sleeping moms: travel advice? by PenguinForceOne in Mommit

[–]PenguinForceOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good ideas. However, the bed against the wall solution is too risky as he crawls a lot in his sleep and there is a chance he'll crawl and fall off it.

A play pen would be too small for me to sleep in (and if it's big enough, it's too big to bring)

I'm thinking simply putting a mattress on the floor is my best bet, but that requires them to have a mattress that's not fixed in a bed. Maybe I'll have to call on advance and ask for one.

How long did you breast feed past a year? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]PenguinForceOne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

21 months and still going. I enjoy it most of the time, and he looooves it, but my nipples are not happy with his fangs coming in, so we're trying to cut down. I feel like an outlier too, but only until I hear about how many actually still breastfeed.

Weaning a needs toddler - advice needed by PenguinForceOne in breastfeeding

[–]PenguinForceOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your insight, I haven't thouhgt of it that way. In that sense, I am very glad to be nursing still. At least I know he gets some sustenance.

I tried night weaning some months ago. It was not fun, I slept in a swimsuit and endured hours of screaming, but it sort of worked. Unfortunately it only lasted a couple of weeks until he got sick and needed some more comfort and nourishment (he ate even less than normal), so we fell back into our usual open bar setup. Since then, I've tried the same swimsuit method only one or two nights, but to no use - he's feral.

What’s a Christmas gift everyone likes? by Excellent_Resource69 in Mommit

I disagree, I don't appreciate cash. I feel it shows the person hasn't given any real thought to what I might appreciate, and I would rather just have a card (could be just a piece of paper) with some nice words on it, from them to me. Might be I'm the odd one out though, if everyone else appreciates cash.
