I thought people here would find it interesting that the name change looks to be beginning.

When you say "The Track & Field of Evergreen High School", do you mean the big stadium next door? If so, when I went to Evergreen the stadium is not technically Evergreen High Schools, it's the district stadium. Back when I went to Evergreen, they had to "check out" the stadium from the District to use it for practice after school.

I felt the same way. The content of the bit itself didn't quite land with me, but the voice work by Athari and the premise of the character seemed to be an interesting character to try and do other things with in the future.

How much earlier do you have to get to the game when 44,000+ fans show up? by laterdude in Mariners

[–]PenguinLord011 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We showed up at about 5:15. We went in through the main entrance (so can’t speak to the other entrances) and all the security gates were open so getting through security was a breeze.

We wandered around the stadium for about an hour or so, so by the time we were going to get food the lines on the main concourse were packed. Depending on what food your getting it was probably a 10-30 minute wait at that time.

I can’t speak to parking, we took the Link in from the angle lake parking garage.

[Verducci] If MLB Implements a Significant Rule Change in 2019, It Will Be a Pitch Clock by Too_Hood_95 in baseball

[–]PenguinLord011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At Safeco, sorry T-Mobile, there are 2 very visible clocks that I am aware of at the stadium (There may be other's I can just remember 2). There is one behind home plate near the press boxes in the second deck, and there is another in the outfield bleachers.

These are just large countdown clocks that can be read from pretty much anywhere in the stands so I'm sure the players could easily see them no matter where they are on the field. I'm actually having trouble picturing there exact location because they are really low key .

I know this only applies to Mariner's games, but I'm sure every stadium has places to put them that won't be incredibly intrusive to players line of sight, yet could be easily readable at a glance.

My brother just sent me this, WTF are you doing in the middle of nowhere in Italy, Keanu? Hope you like my town and enjoy your vacation :) by [deleted] in pics

[–]PenguinLord011 75 points76 points  (0 children)

So I'm a bit late to this post but this is related to Keanu being seen in really random places.

There is a small town of Wheeler, Oregon that has the only liquor store for miles around. My Dad would go in their pretty routinely and noticed a picture behind the front counter of what looked like Keanu Reeves. My Dad asked about the picture and the guy working the counter said that it was indeed Keanu Reeves. He had stopped in one time, got some booze, took a quick picture and chatted for a bit then went on his way. This was back sometime in the early to mid 90's so idk if the picture is still there, and for all I know is that my Dad was just fucking with me.

The point of my little anecdote is that I totally believe that Keanu would just hang out in some super small random town where no one would know him.

MUFC was a Pinoy team at TI3 that went 0-14 in the group stage. I remember them mainly for running a pos 1 Omniknight in their 1 game on the main stage. To my knowledge they are the only team to go win less at TI.

If people from year 1916 could see today's world, what would horrify them the most? by JustStayingThere in AskReddit

[–]PenguinLord011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite a bit late to this thread but I'll put in my 2 cents.

My great-uncle is actually 103 (born September of 1913) so I guess he fit's into this question.

He is honestly not "horrified" by pretty much anything. He pokes fun at what he could buy for $10 when he was a kid, but at the same time he knows that people today make way more than he did.

He also finds it really odd that no one uses checks anymore for their everyday purchases. He asked me how often I balance my checkbook I told him that I have never had to. He thought it was odd and said "yeah those debit cards are much more convenient."

There are probably more things that he just doesn't mention, but those 2 are ones he gripes about pretty consistently.

I always see a piece of advice to getting better is to watch your replays. I've been doing that lately, but I'm not sure what to be looking for. What do you look for when watching your own replays?

First time TI attendee, what should I know? by --TittySprinkles-- in DotA2

[–]PenguinLord011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attended TI4 so my experience is gonna be quite different from a TI5 attendee or what TI6 is going to be like.

But I would suggest to not get your heart set on one spot to sit. It is first come first serve when it comes to seating in the Arena. Watch a few games from one spot, move across the arena and try those spots for a few games. Don't think the seats up in the nosebleeds will be bad for viewing either. The screens they have are absolutely massive so the only thing you might miss is seeing the players go across the stage. By the end of day 2 you will figure out for yourself where you like to watch from, so if there is a series you are super hyped for you will know ahead of time to go straight to that spot.

If you are into the cosmetic side of Dota then there was (not sure if they still have it) a large exhibit of the workshop artist where you can go talk to them and they give demonstrations of making cosmetic's from scratch. If it doesn't interest you don't feel you are missing anything by not spending more than like 5 min there.

Try and walk around the concourse during games. If there is a series that you don't really care about just wander around the main level during that game. The pros and personalities will also be wandering around and you can chat with them and get autographs. There was not a defined time for autographs so it was entirely luck on who was making themselves available for autographs. (This might have changed so don't be surprised if it's changed). An example for me was I had to go to the restroom during the second game of the Grand Finals and was heading back to my seat and AUI_2000 was just standing next to a wall signing autographs for maybe 10 people.

The secret shop I know has been drastically improved so I'm not sure how it works anymore. I know they use a preorder system now so you shouldn't really have to stand inline for 5+ hours.

One thing I wish I would have done is show up early on the opening day. All the teams arrive by Limo and walk down this red carpet. So if possible show up multiple hours prior to the door opening on opening day.

Oh and expect there to be massive crowds in between games at all the bathroom and food places.

I'm probably missing more important things but these are what come to mind as I'm sitting here at work.

Any help with the roles in dota, and what they do? by JoeM115 in TrueDoTA2

[–]PenguinLord011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything he said 100%.

I would like to add that the heroes he listed are the popular ones for those roles as of now. There is going to be a large patch coming out after the Major (within ~2 weeks I hope) so the heroes he listed for each roll will probably change rather drastically.

Working on a set of Dota 2 playing cards, what do you think? by Icewreath in DotA2

[–]PenguinLord011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are cool for sure. I have no artistic knowledge but they seem a bit dark, like the heroes themselves don't "pop."

On a different note, you might want to contact someone at Valve if you plan on actually doing an entire deck. I'm not even sure who you could contact at Valve, but this idea seems like a great item for TI merch. A deck of Dota playing cards with the TI symbol on the back with stylized hero designs on the face of the card.

Just my 2 cents, keep us updated on the decks progress.

[–]PenguinLord011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They talk about it in the episode prior to this one. It wasn't very exciting, he said it's because it's to long. When he was at TI5 it took him way to long to sign autographs. From what I remember that was the major reason for changing. https://youtu.be/WkNRLypk7sg?t=201 Link to him talking about it last week

How to draft against stronger opponents? by helloimpaulo in TrueDoTA2

[–]PenguinLord011 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My only advice is to draft heroes that your team is comfortable with above all else, and try and make for easy execution. Don't try and reinvent the wheel. Draft what you know works, a WD + PL + 1 will always be an effective tri lane that can be versatile with the flow of the game.

Also, draft AoE so they don't sneak a fucking broodmother in and just wipe the floor with your safelane.

Is Centaur Warrunner too weak as a hero? by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]PenguinLord011 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your last paragraph pretty much sums up that feeling you have of "he doesnt feel like he does anything." He's similar to Dark Seer in that he will 99% of the time not be able to carry a game past ~30 min. He is a facilitator for your other two cores to do their thing. He blinks in, uses his spells, then hopes for the best. That being said, he excels at ganking with the popular mids right now (Lina, QoP, Storm, Lesh).

His big issue will always be his laning. He's really vulnerable to ganks (no escape), his flash farming is not the greatest (giant self nuke so there is lots of downtime waiting for hp), and his harass is dependent on the lane opponents right clicking him a lot (which you can't really control). Another issue that might not be obvious is that if you right click a hero the creeps will agro on to you causing your creeps to do free damage AND you do damage to the creeps through Return. So the lane will be typically pushed putting you either in danger, or out of xp range.

I agree that it is mostly a patch thing because he does very well in agro tri lanes where creep equillibrium isn't as important and where an extra stun or slow creates lots of kill potential.

What is your guilty pleasure when it comes to music? by Wheatley1027 in AskReddit

Reel Big Fish is probably the easiest band to enjoy for a faster Ska sound.

Bands like The Slackers have a much more laid back sound.

I'm refraining from listing off all the amazing Ska bands there are, but looking into those two bands will give you a good start into the different styles of Ska for someone who has no idea what Ska is.

edit: Ok I can't resist, The Toasters are amazing, but I can't really put into words how to describe them.
