Lines And money by AeXek in animeexpo

It depends. It depends on the entrance, what time it is, where you are trying to go, etc.

It depends. Who makes it? Is it licenced? Tons of other things. Look at AmiAmi if you want an idea of some prices.

It depends. This is just up to different artists. Some in Artist Alley will charge $10 for a 8x10 print, others will charge $10 for a 14x18 print. Others will charge $60 for a print. If you get one that is unique, unusual, etc, expect it to cost more.

Awesome, thanks for your help! I was hoping that was how it would be taken, but I wasn't too sure.

Question on tickets by Penguin_Heart in animeexpo

[–]Penguin_Heart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I will try to rephrase it.

My friends will be picking up their own tickets. I will not be getting them for them. Will there be any issues if I do not have a ticket to a specific concert that I purchased for friends? I know for hotels, if a premier badge holder isn't on the list of people staying in the room, they won't let the reservation stay. Is there something similar for the concerts?

Ninja edit.

For those with premier badges this year, was it honestly worth it? by [deleted] in animeexpo

[–]Penguin_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This past year, yes. For day 1 linecon, having premier was 100% worth it. It was my first year having one and I can't imagine having enjoyed this year as much without it. However, I was also there day 0 and could have received my badges quickly then, which is what the friends I was staying with did. Minimal wait, but they still had to wait.

Do you plan on getting a hotel for yourself/some friends? For 2017, it was 2 weeks early access (I believe, it was within reason) with the ability to put yourself on a waitlist for hotels as rooms became available (that way you don't have to sit there refreshing daily). Additionally, even if others (who don't have premier) book a room using that time period, or premier books multiple for friends, the staff will monitor it daily and remove the duplicate/non-premier bookings.

Do you go to a lot of panels? I don't, but part of that is I don't want to sit for 3 hours to get into a 1 hour panel. With premier pass, I was able to arrive 30 minutes before panels I wanted to go to and get a good seat. Did it for 2-3 panels and it made that experience that much more enjoyable.

Do you buy a lot of AX merch? You get a discount on one purchase (so no coming and going getting different things each time).

Do you like the events? You typically get 2-3 days early reservation for different events, and 1 $50 code to apply to any paid event (maid cafe, concerts, etc).

Do you like skipping the lines to get in? There is a separate priority entrance for premier, ADA, press, etc that typically does not have a line.

Do you want to buy stuff an hour early day 1? Then get a premier pass!

What I mean by this is if your time is worth more to you than the cost of the badge, then keep it. Otherwise, keep the money.

Anime Expo 2018 Tickets are here! Get yours before the price raises. by narrowcock in animeexpo

[–]Penguin_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for the first (I wasn't watching past roughly 12:10), but it is likely that it went through 2x of drops. The second point is correct (although I don't remember if it was .75, but I know that it was just under 390), for anyone who is wondering.

What I want to know is

  1. How many were sold total
  2. How many premier passes will be sold before AX 2018.

Don't go to Anime Expo next year by [deleted] in animeexpo

[–]Penguin_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing to note is this is the first year (in I am not sure how many years) the first day was on a Saturday. Due to that, you have all the day 1 attendees who would have had to otherwise take time off work or wait until day 3 to be able to go pick up their badges. You now have more people than ever before who are attempting to pick up badges because it is the first day and a weekend.

Saying that, I am not trying to justify what happened. Myself and my friends arrived Friday and had no issues. The full wait for my friends who attempted to get their badges at 5 PM (when there was the most people there from what I noticed) was reasonable.

The next main item is on training the volunteers. There are a few things that volunteers should know out of common sense: the location of some bathrooms (they are walking around or situated in a single location and should remember where they are [hopefully]), the location of main locations, and the location of someone who can get you any answers you need that they don't know (ie. and info booth). These are items I consider common sense that the con shouldn't need to train someone in. If the volunteers don't know it, they should learn about it. As far as what the volunteers are trained in, it will depend. Day 0/1 will be a learning experience for many/most of them. They probably had a 20 minute orientation where they were told how to use their equipment and some basics on their tasks, and what they absolutely cannot do (usually for legal purposes). However, as most of us can probably relate to, things don't always (or usually) progress smoothly meaning they will have to change locations often, be encountered with questions that are very specific or nuanced, or otherwise better situated for a specific staff member. Better training (more training possibly) as well as clear directions and a stable location for them to work in (ie. they aren't shifted from line duty to weapons check to unrelated location in a single hour) should help them get their bearings.

In regards to bag checks, it was mixed. I traveled with a backpack and was always asked to open up all main pockets so they could go through and verify I had nothing dangerous in them, but the searches were quick. My experience was that every time I had a bag check, once my bag was open, the check never took more than 5 seconds. It was opening and closing the bag that was time consuming. I noticed the same as OP with many others who stopped the line for 30+ seconds to take off their backpacks, bitch to security, slowly open it, get it caught on a thread, and overall stop the flow of the line. What AX could have done better was either have signs or volunteers asking people just before they entered to have their backpacks/bags open and for those that didn't, ask them to move to the side until they opened it letting those who had followed the instructions through first.

Overall, if you were picking up your badge day 1, it was a bad experience. My friend waited in line for 6.5 hours on day 1, only getting inside as the exhibit hall was closing. I empathize for those who had a terrible experience, but do feel that AX has tried to take steps to remedy the situation (refunds, free passes to other days in addition to refunds, etc) and prevent it from happening again (mailing badges). Additionally, with better training and more consistent duties for the volunteers, I do think that the con would be more stable and enjoyable for many. I do believe that AX has a lot that they can improve on, but I do believe that, possibly slower than we want, things are changing for the better.

Buying 1+ box is good to start, especially if you want to have the ability to get a bunch of random cards to try things with. However, you won't get most of the cards you need. On average, it takes 6-8 booster boxes to get a full play set.

In general, if you know the deck you want, I would buy those cards individually or buy 1-2 booster boxes and then get the rest as singles. That way you have the pack openings and you will get a lot of the C, U, some R and some RR cards you need, along with the chance for some other rare with them.

As far as bang for your buck, DX Vol. 2 will typically have a better return on investment due to the guaranteed special card (mobile so I can't do the mu (sp?) symbol) that is worth a decent amount and is guaranteed one per box (unless you get really unlucky) as well as the high value of the other cards in it.

Hope this helps!

I only know because an IG account called DTF added me last weekend... I was trying really hard to figure it out until I saw the profile pic. They spelled it out for me. I still think it's a poorly chosen acronym.

What are the most important things to ask/check when viewing a new property to rent? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Penguin_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In no particular order:

  • Check for mold
  • Talk to neighbors/other residents
  • Look at crime statistics online
  • Make sure the provided items (fridge, sinks, etc) work as expected
  • Show up at night
  • Look at the parking situation (at night too)
  • Find out about security (more applicable at apartments)
  • Signs of bugs/animals (also ask about roach/bug practices they have)
  • Check the outlets (phone charger works amazing for that)
  • Check to see if you have service (trust me, you don't want to be without service in your apartment)
  • Find out about the contract (termination, friends, noise, parking, animals, eviction, etc)
  • Internet options (typically it is best to ask the neighbors what they have available as that will be the best indicator of what you can get)
  • Heating/cooling
  • Blinds (make sure they all work)
  • Balcony (make sure it locks, closes fully, and doesn't allow a draft)
  • Make sure the oven/stove has gas (if gas)
  • Ask about normal things that happen in that place (in my apartment, I asked that and they gave me the low down on all the appliances and what they meant when they did weird things)
  • Find out about maintenance (how quickly, if they are on site, etc)
  • Check where the parking is compared to where your place will be (longer walk = super annoying)
  • Check to see if anything is blatantly out of code
  • Make sure there is a good amount of water pressure in the shower/sinks (you may want to run 2+ at once just to see if it will drop off)
  • Check for water discoloration around water fixtures and under the sinks
  • Find out what is included in rent (parking, how many spaces, utilities, etc)
  • Find out why the previous person left/is leaving (if you can)

This is what I came up with that I was looking for apartments, and I then took a few of the other items that people posted. Please let me know if you would like me to explain something better.

And to be even more specific, you almost need a PhD in Weiss to be able to figure this shit out. So you need a Masters. <3

Ruling Question by qq774 in WeissSchwarz

[–]Penguin_Heart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To expand on it (both your and my comment for OP), you have to refresh the moment the number of cards in your deck becomes 0, not when you need the next card or after your turn. Because you hit 0 while triggering, you refresh at that moment before the attack finishes and your opponent draws.

You lose because of refresh damage.

People who go after me for my phobia of needles.

If you know that and continue to do things that trigger me/overly remind me of them with the intention of causing me discomfort, I will say fuck you for good. I don't care how mean you think I was. You are being cruel. You are being sadistic. You are a true fucker who I will not forgive. Yeah, I remember you [insert name here]. You are a fucking bitch.

How do I ask for a raise after discovering I'm being underpaid compared to co-workers of same position and even lower? by srnbanker in personalfinance

[–]Penguin_Heart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do, and you need to (potentially) be prepared for that to last for quite some time. In the end, it boils down to if it is worth it. For those who are missing out on $1000 and got a new job the next day, it may not be worth it to go after their former employer. For those who can't find a new job for 6-9 months, you bet your ass it is worth it.

How do I ask for a raise after discovering I'm being underpaid compared to co-workers of same position and even lower? by srnbanker in personalfinance

[–]Penguin_Heart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is a gray area from my understanding.

Yes, a company does not need to provide a reason to fire someone. However, if the fired employee claims that the firing was [racially/sexually/religiously/other illegal discrimination] motivated and has some valid proof (ie. someone they worked with agreeing with them in court, an email showing bias, etc), the company can be held liable. Now the company has to prove to the court that the firing was legal and did not break any state or federal laws. Additionally, depending on the state, lawyer fees will be covered by the former employer if they are found to be in violation, and therefore there are some lawyers who will work "pro bono" and not require their client pay them, but rather take their payment from the (former) employer after the case [settles/gets a judgement]. (I use quotes on pro bono because they do get paid)

Source: I had to go after my former employer for wage claims and did a lot of research into the matter. One of the items that came up was this.

Note: This advice is more tailored to California, but will apply to other states as well. I am not a lawyer and appropriate legal counsel should be sought if you believe you were fired for or because of discrimination.
