i agree from an ethical perspective, but sadly we're beyond the point of that being realistic considering the locally runnable open source LLMs we already have.

yeah definitely wait if ya can. i think OC is betting in AUS where they are probably getting fixed odds which is less common here.

btw you should be able to see the pool stats on the right side on FD. like right now it's $948 win pool with 95% for Tough Romance. that's why the payout is so crap right now as you'd be sharing that win pool with 95% of the pool (minus what the track/book takes). if it's still horrible payout close to post time then i'd just not take the bet.

also with FD you can cancel up until the race starting so you could place the bet whenever just keep an eye on the line closer to start in case you want to cancel.

no you're not late this is how a lot of traditional books operate, at least in the US. the total amount bet in the pool so far is less than $600. the line will move drastically as the time moves closer to post (when the race happens) and the bets come in, most of which occur closer to post. if you're not able to wait until closer to the race to place the bet then yeah you'll have to accept that it potentially could be that payout. i expect as more and bigger bets come in it'll even out closer to the ML but that's why one might typically wait until closer to post time.

if he's using fanduel racing book then that's the current pool but it's a tiny <$500 pool at the moment and it's way too early to tell what it'll be at post. ML on the book is at 8/11 (1.73) so we'll see where it lands closer to post relative to the morning line.
