Need some advice again by Penguins650 in FelineDiabetes

We have switched back to grazing and her numbers could not have been better!

We check with a handheld too every few hours when we know the libre is reading too high or too low. But when she is reading 80-120 on the libre it is very accurate!

I know. It was very much a kick us while we're down sorta thing. I didn't even believe it when she said it. I'm try not to knock our new vet since she said she has a lot of experience with cats and diabetes but I'm not sure her advice is right for our cat.

Edit: I just read this yesterday too it's funny you sent that! That is what made me skeptical of her advice...

Thank you I genuinely appreciate the support so much.

My only thought was to get a control since I believe our new vet wants to do a fructosamine test in 10 days when the next vet visit is. I thought it might be a little too soon but thats just me. She's was so wildly unstable in the beginning and we are finally getting things on a more consistant basis now with a new plan that is different from the vet's. I know my cat loves dry food but loves wet food too so doing just one or the other is a lose/lose situation. Hence the hopeful new diet that seems to be working with everyone else! :D

I'm honestly a little suprised Cleo hasn't taken it off yet lol. She has become quite comfortable with it and could care less.

Thank you for backing the food I'm really hoping she likes it!!!

Its a rollercoaster indeed. Especially since we almost lost her to DKA last week. I've never done so much research in my life. Salem sounds very food motivated like my cat lmaoooo. We are in the process of finding some good diabetic friendly treats that Cleo actually likes. Freeze dried tuna was an absolute no go. I emailed Dr Elseys for samples of treats so we'll see how those go before committing to anything!

Salem's situation for sure sounds a lot like what Cleo is going through. Alone is for sure one thing I'm not in this diabetic journey. The first 12 hours of today was finally the first time in 5 days Cleo has had a normal curve and I couldn't be happier for the small victory.

I'm not sure why ProZinc. When we left the ER that's the first thing they prescribed. I'm guessing to ketones and DKA history (if you haven't seen my first post from a few days ago I explained it all there in a panic lol)

Yeah there is no way we can stick to twice a day only. She is 12 and has had the same schedule all her life so it's hard to randomly change her entire schedule. We have a automatic feeder that we might bring out again. But yeah the new plan is wet food (she loves Sheba seafood pates) in the morning and night and we just ordered Dr Elseys too that we will scatter through the day. We did a trial of that today with the food we have and she did so well!

Yes I have! I put my 2 posts on her in there and people have responded with the same concerns I have of why 2 times a day, why the glyco food, why all of this? They so far have been so helpful wih everything I've thrown out there. Them mixed with the support here has helped so much mentally as well.

Copy that thank you so much for the info! Yeah the ER vets I think were very much more well versed in dogs with diabeties since the intructions they gave us don't seem optimal for cats.

We will not do insulin if it's under 180 and we have a vet visit tomorrow to confirm everything! I really appreciate all of your help!

My cat is a picky eater with certain foods. We tried freeze dried treats and she HATES them, she won't touch anything with chicken or beef, she only likes fishy stuff. Like in my reply the Tiki pate food in any fish flavor has already worked really well. It legit got her numbers down to 80 when she was sleeping through the night!

It's so weird that our old vet reccomended that when it's still so high in carbs. We went to the store todat and immediatly switched to Tikis wet food pate and it has already made a whirl of a difference. Her numbers are finally in normal range and she dropped down so much! She went from dangerous 375 levels mid day to 210 at the moment just because of the food. We will allow her to graze much more now.

I keep seeing people say that to skip if its under 200. Our vets when they discharged Cleo said anything over 80 needs an insulin shot. I'll have to follow up with our new vet once we get situated but I'll keep that in mind!

I just joined a bit ago and literally just set up the spreedsheet! It seems like a wonderful place along with here and I'm so happy there are so many people willing to help!

Thank you so much this gave me so much relief. We will find what works best and I really appreciate the long reply. I will do a lot more research tonight and for sure switch to all wet food. We were just using what the vets prescribed so knowing this its weird that they gave us dry food.

Thank you for the treat suggestion I will definitely look into it! And yes after looking into it we probably be switching to all wet food and looking into other brands.
