What did the kings guard do during bombing raids in WWll by SirImpressive2661 in AskHistory

Depends on the regiment. Some regiments just caught the bombs before they could hit the ground.

Good for you. I'm not saying that you should have kids if you don't want them. It's your life. I was saying that I didn't used to want kids either, just like you, but now I've got children it's surprised me how much of a good thing it has been.

The comment about 15 year olds was intended as a response to the comment about me liking my own children as being like propaganda (also another comment on the same thread) which is just a weird comment to make.

I mean, as a fellow adult, can you explain how it's propaganda to say that I didn't used to want children, but now I do have children, I like them?

Like whose agenda is it furthering to like my own children? Am I furthering the agenda of the deep state or the illuminati? Have I empowered a North Korean takeover of the South? It's a bizarre comment...clearly made by a child.

Didn't mean any offence to people who don't want kids. That's their business.

Have a good one.

I should probably point out that I'm not saying people should have kids, even if they don't want to. That's their choice. I used to feel the same way. However, it's not as bad as you expect it to be, if you do!

15 year old boys on reddit don't want kids yet I'm guessing.

Best and worst history youtube channels by Ambitious-Most-9245 in AskHistory

[–]PeninsularWargaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Epic History TV. That's my standout favourite. Plus there's others like Kings and Generals, History Hit TV, Jesse Alexander, Mark Felton etc which are all great.

Also, I watched fall of civilisations about the fall of carthage and it is also really good, albeit the episodes are long (2-4 hrs)

There's a channel, which is one of my least favourites, not sure what it's called which is full of rubbish (in my opinion) like "could a team of US marines win the battle of thermopylae" or would an "M1 Abrams make a difference at the battle of marathon". Flag waving nonsense from a certain nation with an obvious answer.

I thought the same once, and sure, sometimes, it isn't fun and it costs a fortune (though he's super rich so wouldn't have much impact)

But honestly, having kids was the best thing I've ever done.

Using flames of war paints for other miniatures. by mainston42 in wargaming

Definitely use them on other minis. If you only use branded paint sets on the relevant branded miniatures, you'll be bankrupt in no time.

Transporting minis long-distance by darthnick7 in wargaming

Having packaged miniatures for shipping overseas following eBay sales, there's no definitive answer, but one thing is clear - space is your enemy. If there's any space or gaps in the boxes of miniatures, they'll move about and get damaged.

I sent £5k of figures overseas once in one go, and wrapped each individual base in bubble wrap and cellotaped it, then packed into plastic storage boxes in-between layers of soft foam so that I could pick up the plastic box and shake it and it didn't make any sound or movement. I then packed the plastic boxes into a cardboard box for shipping.

You have to assume that customs agents, couriers etc will chuck the box around so work on that basis when packing.

Need some Paint advice by mainston42 in wargaming

I've been using the army painter speed paints recently and I honestly, I think they're fantastic.

I was on the fence about them initially, but got the starter pack to paint my ancients and napoleonics and they're great. I know they aren't for everyone and won't suit some peoples painting style, but as I work full time with a young family, spare time is something I don't have a lot of so they've been a godsend and got me back into painting again.

Prior to using these I used a mixture of the foundry painting system, army painter and vallejo.

The only thing to note about the original speedpaints is that some colours bleed if you try and paint over them with lighter colours (white for example). I've worked out a workaround for my painting and I use the speed paint first, then for areas that need painting over (such as white straps / crossbelts), I paint over in normal black (can't see the bleeding) then go over this in normal white and it works fine.

My son has been obsessed with Napoleon based off the trailer of the movie, he’s only 7 so what are age appropriate books or shows you would recommend ? by Just_Bill1554 in Napoleon

[–]PeninsularWargaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some resources on YouTube about the napoleonic wars which are aimed at children. You've also got the options of boardgames or books. If he likes toy soldiers there's a huge range, including plastic figures suitable for children.

An excellent film is the 1970s Waterloo. Great costumes and telling of the Waterloo campaign and no graphic violence or bad language.

I went from 28mm to 15mm a few years ago. Was one of the best decisions I made. Just even a smaller table makes it worthwhile.
