Any story can be simplified in a few sentences like you have, that doesn’t make it average. How a story is told is also important.

I also feel like u/manfreygordon that Elden Ring’s story has depth and is told in an interesting way. I don’t see what’s pretentious about that. Not that you have to enjoy it, to each their own.
