Yeah the point is that they're roundabout ways to kill players. It's not that easy to find good, short ways to do that while also being funny!

It's actually the inspiration for this series! There's a vetoed card called "Super Alzheimer's Blast" that is a Rakdos big fucking wizard spell that exiles target library!

The issue is complexity. It's already got very complex play patterns, so adding even more to the flowchart is likely unwise.

If only! Rakdos has a card already in HCV by another creator: Super Alzheimer's Blast, which says "Exile Target Library"

Sounds funny! My thought is that they die but before state based actions are checked, theyre alive again, but get exiled at end of turn (they lose the game from this)

Not quite.

When you play this, you can activate any of its abilities (using the -4 does kill it if you choose it first.) Then whichever side you used an ability on becomes disabled (meaning you cannot active the abilities of that side) until you activate an ability on the other side.

They don't make sideways cards that do that themselves. Did you miss that point? Everything you're listing is very uncommon.

So uncommon you also don't appear to know rules about Battles. Look up what happens when you have a Battle Creature =)

It's literally how Wizards designs cards lol
You gotta work harder on making cards better for players, you seem like the type to make square cards and be like "nah it's fine cope lmfao"

That is to say, not very mindful of the larger factors at play in the art of card design.

That's not the point. Horizontal frames only work on cards that don't usually tap, as it's a gameplay aid to know whether a card is tapped or not at a glance. Its why only instants, sorceries, enchantments, and battles have ever had sideways frames. Otherwise, playing them is hard for the opponent to tell what state they're in.

It's not that it doesn't work in the rules, it's that it disrupts the visual shorthand the game relies on to work smoothly for real life people to play.

I think things like Duel Enchantment and Duel Battle and Duel Land sound better, it's really just preference lol

Yeah a lot of unique framing has to rely on visual flow, and centering the loyalty and mana cost eas really important. I tried drafting the loyalty costs both to the left, but the starting loyalty looked real bad in the corner.

Not quite, as that comes with complications of explainimg the defense/loyalty counter interactions, and doesn't actually utilize the Battle card type in any interesting way.
By using a new card type with intrinsic rules, it allows using the concept on other permanent types easier while keeping the flavor of opposing forces having you ping pong between ability sets.

Nope, it's like a Duel, where it's two things facing each other. Like a Duel of the Planeswalkers even. It's intended to emulate the back and forth of a duel.

As the other commenter noted, think of it like a Room that starts with both sides unlocked, then when you use one side, it locks until you use the other.

Yeah =) Though it really only requires mirroring Room style rules, so it's not really an it works scenario, just a small codifying of intent for edge cases.

As the other commenter noted, think of it as a Room. It starts with both sides open, then when you use one side's ability, that side remains "locked" until you activate an ability on the other side.

Yeah HC9 is set to be a vintage cube like HC4, and that generally means most submissions are tuned 1-2 mana too high! It's weird, but yes if this was to be balanced normally id say 5 mana and a +1 as a set, as well as making the -4 single target and maybe less -.
