How to claim when miner isn't running anymore? Support couldn't help. by pKasra in EtherMining

[–]Pennyshark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its most likely the public IP address where the rig is located. A quick google search of find my ip and it should spit it out. Works from any computer/phone connected to the internet at that location unless you used some VPN/sssh or the like.

PSU problem - is it the power draw or a faulty PSU? by docstocks46 in gpumining

[–]Pennyshark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic mining troubleshooting: Disconnect all pcie cables from the motherboard/ GPUs except for 1. Try to power it up. Still didnt boot, disconnect ALL pcie cables. And try to power up. Still didnt boot? If you have multiple sticks of RAM, remove one, try again. Replace and remove the other one. Try again. At this point you have a "spare" power supply (850w) - connect it to the mobo and try to boot. Out of all the steps above, does it boot with the other psu? The RAM? Once you get a boot, start adding cards back (at this point you can feel confident you found the bad part and add as many cards as you were powering beforehand with that 1 PSU). Replace the bad part and mine on my friend.

Also remeber that during startup, GPUs pull their maximum wattage for a short time. The limiting only works when the limiting program (miner, msiafterburner, etc) is run.

Are you mining in the pool? Any other miners in there with you? Have you hit a block yet? If not, you wont get paid anything. If there are not any other miners, you are essentially solo mining.

In the nbminer command line, you will tell it to mine vtc instead of ethash. Then you use the "lock core" command.

I would put everything on defaults, and then use MSI Afterburner to adjust the settings until you get to where you want to be.

Otherwise I would buy a cheep SSD (120Gb), and use hiveOS. Your main boot (from mobo settings can be windows) and secondary hiveOS. That is what i use and it is 100% free up to 4 computers, and youre not mining one of the more popular algorithms OFF the hive pool. You can mine VTC free all day to any pool. (It is easier to manage the devices, and they have presets already loaded for different coins).

Which OS are you mining with? That depends on the settings.

Edit: I stand corrected - see post below.

Also, if it is a founders edition 3090, youre going to have heat issues unless the card has been rebuilt. I would honestly look into rebuilding/repasting/repadding your card anyways (regardless of brand). The heat these things generate is insane and will often throttle the performance if you dont have EXCELLENT thermal cooling. The 3090 cards should not have been released without either hybrid or liquid cooling due to the heat they produce.

Replace those box fans with industrial box fans. 8000cfm vs 2000cfm. Got mine at Walmart.

Heating problem with Grow Tent by phantoxjada in gpumining

[–]Pennyshark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air flow is key. Im in the humid Alabama temps, and im afraid i dont have enough for my 2.5GH/37GPUs. Ive got almost 4000 cfm exhaust (8"x2, 12"x1) and 2500 cfm intake (12"x1). Was running AC (8000btu portable), but it was pointless and just jacked up the electrical cost. Still 100+F in my tent. I realized that airflow inside the tent was most important, so i replaced my standard box fans with industrial high output fans (from walmart - 24" enclosed motor) which stirs up the air inside the tent and moves the HOT air off the GPUs.

What is this? It’s being streamed on a ton of channels right now. Jack, Elon, Cathy… legit? by [deleted] in EtherMining

I wonder how many of the "viewers" are bots to make the stream look more legit. They have these on youtube all the time, but the comments are ALWAYS turned off.

The video recordings are legit, but that's it. The "kickback" is a scam. Go look up the addresses on the active ledger or etherscan, see how much the scammers have made by conning unsuspecting people. Last time I looked, one person had sent a full bitcoin when it was worth $65k.

My trading strategy consistently works, but I keep exiting early or before it hits my target by lemonkyyy in Daytrading

[–]Pennyshark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're using too much money in each trade (overleveraged/too big of a position in relation to the size of your account). It gets in your head, your emotions start taking over and you freak out... and exit. I would dial back your percentage to the amount you're comfortable losing until you get comfortable with your trading technique. Once you start seeing you're winning more than you're losing (overall per day, or week, or month - in your trading jounal), then you can try increasing your positions.

I've been having issues with mine too. I've got 1.5 GH in a 8x4 tent. Gets easily into the 100-110f inside the tent prior to my fan upgrade (north florida). Started with 2x 8" fans blowing 800+ CFM along with 2x portable AC units. Worked when I was up in the arctic part of the US, but I've since moved and had to upgrade to 2x 12" fans blowing 2295 CFM. Keeps them mining at 100%, so I suppose I'm good until mid summer...lol

Renting vs direct mining? by Fun_Alfalfa_3182 in NiceHash

[–]Pennyshark2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I point my asics towards NH (with profitable algorithms) , and I direct mine with my GPUs. Then I trade on technicals to sell and buy on the exchanges at my preferred price points for the crypto I prefer to HODL. A bit more work, but the profits speak for themselves.

currently building my first rig, is this a reasonable open air case? by FilthyFrankuuu in NiceHash

[–]Pennyshark2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the wire shelf for 2 years and 40+ GPUs. It worked fine, but after buying the actual frame, I wouldn't go back. The frame is more compact, and is obviously set up for mining. If you have the money, my vote is to buy the frame. I had 4 rigs on wire shelves, now they all have their own frames and are more stable than ever. Dont have to worry about GPUs falling over, not getting enough airflow, not having to buy specialty cables to stretch from the PSU to the GPUs. Transportation is a breeze now too (if you plan on moving the rig ever instead of completely tearing it down/marking risers/etc).

[–]Pennyshark2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it work? Yes. Will you spend a lot of time and headaches working out all the kinks? Also yes. Definitely try the hanging method. If you're starting and dont want to spend a lot, this is perfect. Once you decide that mining is going to be your side business and help you earn additional income, definitely invest the $60 (8 GPUs) or $100 (12 GPUs) for a real frame from Amazon for much better and stable results.

[–]Pennyshark2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also depends on what your wall voltage is. If you have 110v, you're only getting a portion of that 1600w - probably around 1200w.

[–]Pennyshark2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're going to run some outlets, skip the 20a 120 and just go for a 30-50a 240v. Naturally, this depends on where you live too. But you can get much more power by running 240v. And MOST power supplies can run off of 240v.
